Photobucket uploading, YES or NO, Mira, sheds

Well, at least I can upload pictures to Photobucket, even if I can't see my resulting albums. The pictures are at least viewable when I test them, so there is that. I flirted with Flickr (which I've had since September 2006?!), TinyPic (which was bought by Photobucket), Image Shack, Picasa (connected to Google), Zoomr (which isn't accepting new registrations), and some more sites. This afternoon, I was also responsible and paid my phone bill.

BLING, ABC Family Restaurant, fans, chilling, and catching up!

Chinese Eric called at about 6:40, and said he'd be here at 7, but got stuck in traffic and was here at 7:25. I just let him in when he buzzed without bothering to verify who it was, haha. AFTER THREE LONG MONTHS, WE HAVE BEEN REUNITED! Catching up, Vegas bling necklaces / postcards / maps (Nevada) / T-shirt / playing cards, wedding photos, Vegas pictures, baby Ayler photos, dinner, chilling, and more were definitely on the agenda! Discussed Facebook, TSN, Edwin Encarnacion, baseball, the Blue Jays winning 11-9 over the Indians, the BC Lions losing 23-20 to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Puckheads group (I added him at his own request!), Carol / Stuart, racism, and reminders. Conversed about his wanting to know ALL THE DETAILS (why not?), Marissa / Caleb / Connor, James (who showed good timing by saying hi on YM just as we were discussing him :P), fans, water / apple juice, Vegas hotels, Jon / Harmony / Ayler ("I gotta see the baby before he loses his cuteness!"), TV programs, FINAL FANTASY, COMMAND AND CONQUER, my new large extended family thanks to Harmony and all of Lisa's cousins, Lucas / Liam / Ruth / Sandy / Mike, and dinner options.

We talked about Tokyo Joe's (sushi good if there's a large group only - not for two people), Denny's, Italian Tomato (which Eliza told me about), Korean BBQ (I wasn't REALLY HUNGRY!), closing hours NOT posted on websites (?!), NOT White Spot, and other things. Finally, I had to call Italian Tomato to find out that they closed at 10. Since it would probably take forever to find Bridgeport after 9:10, Eric figured that we might as well go to ABC Family Restaurants next to Yaohan. Sounded fine to me! He had a quesadilla with a garden salad, and I had a chicken pot pie with a garden salad. Talked about grandmas, expensive electronics, iPads, iPhones, plasma TVs, Steve Nash going to the Lakers (not with the Phoenix Suns anymore - A CONTENDER INSTEAD!), T&T, prices, Price Smart, IQ Tester games, Nathan and Ciel, busyness, seeing the baby, changing opinions, a BOBBY LOU burger in Burnaby, and more.

He was fine with going to Price Smart briefly: the 30-count of bottled water was on sale for $4! Since that was what I was going to get anyway, that was even more incentive! I lugged it around the store in a wheeled cart while we checked out the magazines and Asian section. Decided to get some purple yam / taro ice cream while we were there - of COURSE it was fine if I took that on the way out since he had to help with the bottled water! He stopped in briefly to grab his stuff while putting down the bottled water in the kitchen, and I convinced him to sign the guestbook even if it would be abbreviated. YAY! I HOPE IT'S NOT THREE MONTHS BETWEEN HANGOUTS AGAIN!

Photos not viewable with browsers!

I can't view any Facebook photos and pictures in ANY browser on here right now; Firefox, Chrome, and Opera all return empty boxes for those things! Good thing I finished my bestiary work hours beforehand, but I was planning to use Facebook photos tomorrow so Chinese Eric could see pictures of Ayler and Vegas / the wedding IF the hangout ends up happening! I guess I can still use it, but he'll have to be content with thumbnails. Yes, I deleted my cookies and cleared my cache... I somehow don't think that this problem will resolve itself overnight, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if so! Maybe this is Friday the 13th at work... spooky!

Google Maps, DRAGON WARRIOR, March 2012 BBT Tally

Harmony emailed me last night to thank me for my generous gifts of the toys, sippy cup, and baby wipes; she also thanked me for coming out to the baby shower, since she and Jane had had fun! I'm sure she can use the things I gave her, hopefully! Eric tried calling me when I was in the shower, but resorted to MSN: there's been a delay, and he figures it might be best if we cancel. If he calls me later, we're still on. Sounds good to me, and I'll definitely be thinking of him! Matt shared a funny DRAGON WARRIOR / Google Maps video with me - he isn't sure it's NOT an April Fool's joke, but it made me laugh!

Dallas in parking lot, Kaili, Teunis, craziness, and yelling (dream)

I had a dream in which Jon, Steph, and a bunch of others were picking Dallas up in a dark parking lot. Then we all went to a house where it was generally understood that Pirate Kaili and Crazy Teunis were our surrogate parent figures. A while later, I found out that Pirate Kaili and Crazy Teunis were actually married and trying to fool us into thinking they weren't. In the dream world, their not being married was perfectly fine, but there would be severe consequences if they WERE. I was very incensed, and told EVERYONE the truth. Once everyone knew, we went around the house and neighborhood having screaming matches while they tried to justify this, and suppress the truth!

I have no idea how the dream ended, but I jokingly blame James for talking about some other guy HE knows named Dallas! (Jon and I thought the only ones that counted were Dallas the person, Dallas Drake, and Dallas Willard - Google FINALLY helped!) I also blame having to see Teunis' FB comments everywhere (KAILI - ex / CAT - ex / KRISTA - ex / ALICIA - frenemy / TESS - degenerate poly person, but so are the others), and of course I blame Kaili's pirate display picture on FB. YOU ARE NOT A FUCKING PIRATE, AND YOUR PRACTICES ARE NOT WHAT SANE PEOPLE WOULD DO! Sometimes, I wonder about geeks.... *shakes head* At least this isn't like a year ago, where I had to pretend that this was okay and normal behavior!

I'm back at the library, having borrowed Mao's Last Dancer (Li Cunxin) and A Clash of Kings (George R.R. Martin) before I even got to the computer room. Thank goodness for time extensions, otherwise I'd never be able to catch up on the last 24 hours around here! At least Randal DID email me back, and I got interesting stuff to read.

Due to this stupid Internet problem, I won't be able to fully participate in my beloved weekly tradition for the first time in MONTHS! UGH! The people at Shaw were not helping. I told them that I knew I was disconnected from the Internet (I have a thing on my taskbar that clearly shows the status), and they STILL wanted me to go to various browsers to see if that was the case! Hello, I am not DUMB. I called Eric later, who at least kinda helped.

James buzzed me on YM last night, so of course I talked to him! Discussed Teunis, yucky stuff, the police, LJ, spelling, Google Chrome, poutine, and more. Went to sleep and had a dream that Alena, Cristo, and Brey (from DRAGON WARRIOR 4) had to do various things over and over again on a rooftop. I was pulled away by Siobhan, who was crying about something in a washroom. Her friends and I tried reassuring her that one mistake did NOT define who she was! I also remember chicken pies for some reason, so that's what I'm going to have to eat now. :D

Mom and Dad dropped me and Grandma off at Happy Date Bakery and Restaurant after they gave me $20 and Cracker Jacks, but Mom had to make sure Flora from #9 was working. She wasn't, but that was apparently fine. I saw an Asian couple changing their baby's diaper on a chair inside Happy Date restaurant. Yes, Chinese restaurant washrooms are REALLY dirty, but there are some things that you just DON'T DO! For dinner, we both had Horlicks and soup to drink (plus toast with butter), but I had Minute Steak with spaghetti and eggs while she had baked seafood with rice. Afterwards, she bought a mini-pack of walnut pastry for herself, and a mini-pack of butterfly pastry for me. She got really impatient on the bus once we were the only two people left on it with a good number of stops to go. Luckily, I didn't have to restrain her from using the bell pull! It's also a good thing I didn't have to prevent her from taking the 410 instead, as I kept her bus ticket till the 407 showed up!

Grandma, once I made her look at the Google Image Search results for spaghetti: "Aiya! What restaurant makes THAT much noodles?! You shouldn't have those for dinner anyway, but instead for lunch! Only RICE for dinner!" Guess it really isn't "whatever I haven't had in a while" as dinner for ME...


Mom: "Here, read this! You might suffer from mom-nesia!" *reads the newspaper headline* "... waking up too often to CARE FOR BABIES may turn brains to mush!" Does that describe my life?! I DON'T THINK SO!

Dad: "When does Teunis leave? Oh, he left yesterday... no wonder you're depressed!" .... o_O WTF. *cue both parents saying stuff about how he should save money since his job isn't guaranteed, and he isn't even past the probation period* Um, yeah...

Mom, asking for my opinion on her banquet dress: "How do you like my outfit? Is it tight enough for you?" .... er, help?

Grandma, on the weather: "It's good that it isn't snowing!" Me: "It's JULY, almost AUGUST! Of course it's not snowing!" Grandma: "I just meant that it's good there's no snow! In January or February, it snows." Um, okay?

New Zealand bans weird baby names

Celebrities with a penchant for weird baby names (looking at you, David and Victoria Beckham) should avoid having kids in New Zealand.

The country's Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages has been cracking down on parents who get too creative when naming their kids, Australia's Herald Sun reports.

The list of weird names for kids that are banned by New Zealand's names registrar has grown to include Lucifer, Duke, Messiah, and 89.

Also not approved: Bishop, Baron, General, Judge, King, Knight, and Mr., names that were all said to be too similar to titles.

The letters, C, D, I, and T were also rejected as first names, the Herald Sun says.

As well, the agency has refused to allow names involving asterisks, commas, periods, and other punctuation marks.

And three different sets of Kiwi parents wanted to name their children Lucifer, only to have the name choice nixed.

In 2008, New Zealand's names registrar drew international attention when it approved such non-traditional names as Benson and Hedges for a set of twins, as well as the boys names of Violence and Number 16 Bus Shelter.

But New Zealand isn't the only country to ban wacky names for kids, the Toronto Globe and Mail reports.

In Sweden, name choices are subject to a naming law. While Lego and Google have been approved as names for children... Superman, Metallica, and Elvis, and the name Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116 (pronounced Albin) were not approved.

In 2007, a judge in the Dominican Republic submitted a proposal to ban names that are either confusing or gave no indication of gender, such as the names Qeurida Pina (Dear Pineapple) and Tonton Ruiz (Dummy Ruiz), according to the Globe and Mail.

William Murphy and Bradley Harris tried adding me to Facebook; the one got through because he sent me intelligent messages, but the other did NOT. HA! Vanessa also buzzed me on MSN this morning: she's coming today and leaving Tuesday. Maybe we can get together tomorrow before the hockey game, hah - lunch is doable! April also suggested I add David S. on FB again - considering he's the one who blocked me two years ago, I DON'T THINK SO!

Teunis made carrots and potatoes for dinner with Chinese sausage, while telling me about his appointment earlier and money. Yeah, that kind of thing is hard, but I figure he knows how to budget! I called Chinese Eric, but his mom said that he wasn't available! When Teunis left MY apartment, Chinese Eric had just called back, so I asked him about the plans for tomorrow. (if I watched the hockey game here, Teunis would probably kill me even though it IS my place and all...) He said that Nate had left him a message on MSN to say that he and Jeremy would be by before the game, so I told him that Jon can't bail on SERVANTS, which is totally understandable! We talked about the nerve-wracking game yesterday; yes, it was intense! He definitely still has my bowl, which we kinda do need around here. Before he said he had to take his medicine, he said he'd be by at 4:30; when I said that it might be cutting time TOO close even if his place is relatively nearby, he said 4:15. At least his mom knows Nathan, so won't hesitate TOO long in letting Jeremy in with him, hahaha!

When Teunis got back, I was going to call Auntie Ying - she said stuff about her sister upsetting her, Deer Garden Restaurant, Alexandra Road, and some other things. I educated her on Google and Translink (plus bus directions!) in turn, haha. "The restaurant has an Internet," she said - so cute! [she meant a website, of course] Actually, I thought she said "beer garden" instead of "deer garden" - of course, beer gardens and Auntie Ying do not mix, haha! Andrew then asked me how to work "Awana" into a volunteer job that deals with kids; GOOD QUESTION! (religion might be too much - teamwork and respect might not be, though!) Then Teunis and I discussed fish (bladder) soup, storage, books, organization, walking in the park, his musical instruments, Google Alerts, Swedish fish, Hotmail, a Dutch saying using cat poop as an idiom, weird news, yesterday's shiitake mushroom beer, Windows apparently not being genuine, product keys, and more.

Discussed the biggest chocolate bar (4410 pounds - I can tell Ian and Sean on Saturday if I remember), expensive dinners ($225 or $900 probably involves alcohol), funny stuff, LJ being down again (this latest one even affects the dungeons and space adventures - NOT COOL), and blocking FB apps. Also talked about Julie S. listing me as her sister (yay!), remembering why I blocked Wordscraper (all the annoying ads which you can't remove!), his being on the programming list for Chrome, confusion about FB / LJ link comments, and more prior to my going to bed. Might as well post this while LJ is actually behaving!

Turns out Andrew called Teunis from the Olympic Oval at 10:55 AM since he was bored on his break and wanted to go for lunch; after a shower, he was outta here after I looked up driving directions on Google Maps. Before deciding that I simply had to get some sleep at 12:15 PM, I called Henry to say I thought I wouldn't be able to make it to Awana; this turned out to be courteous and good since I slept till about the time he might have called me anyway (3:40), and wasn't in any shape for a typical Awana afternoon! I can always give the peanut butter cups / chocolate hearts to Ian and Sean later, haha.

Teunis left a bit afterwards, but we discussed scaring kids with lychee bubble tea / grass jelly / coconut jelly (that combination apparently looks like floating tentacles), Memory Express on Tuesday / deals / Windows 7 / inkjet vs. laser printers (toner and storage and such), and Pearl Harbor / propaganda. We also talked about building delays into your plans to leave, Rush, mocha pie, energy drinks, his code project, strawberry bubble tea at Yaohan (GWEI LOH), robot parts, knives / safety / Norse legend / Odin and gifts with a catch / dragons on piles of gold, the cost of an interruption, concern at not seeing someone for two weeks, and gaming at Andrew's. After he left, I threw a whole bunch of stuff away / did laundry / had a beef pot pie / saved the rest of the Russell Stover chocolates (only three) and Smartfood popcorn for later.

POTATO MASHER!!!! / Wasting a London Drugs trip!

Teunis came back briefly to look for his wallet, then said he'd walked to Chapters to look at programming stuff - he went out again to drive to London Drugs (he was there earlier in the computer area) / Save-On to get cheese, a cooking utensil which he didn't remember the name of (but does remember what it looks like), and some other stuff. I guess his foot's had enough of walking - it would have been funny had we bumped into each other at London Drugs before, haha! This reminds me that I need a fork / a new zippered pencil case, but I can do that another time! He came back later with an on-sale mixer ($15 - too noisy?!), an on-sale potato masher ($8 - he's missing the one in storage), and an on-sale whisk because he couldn't find mine... eh, it was in the drawer with the rest of the cutlery, but I guess it was easy to miss. Then he had pizza since all he'd had so far was crumpets and coffee... nice, nice. (he wondered if I was out watching the Coyotes hockey game since he saw it on the pub TV; nope, but we DID win 4-3 in OT!)

Matt1993 added me on LJ, too - that autistic guy's userinfo is interesting and quirky! Teunis says he's upgrading to Windows 7, so of COURSE he has to read some code! Eric just realized he has a conflict for the ping-pong program in two weeks since he has Canucks tickets; hey, I wasn't planning to go to the program ANYWAY! Maybe I'll just return the extraneous oatcakes at some point, hahaha. I don't think we need them right now! Teunis and I also discussed his server, Google, money, WOW prices ($15 a month), that egg liqueur he introduced me to last summer, speakers / sound / setup, soldering, and more. Had to do a lot of editing tonight, too...

When Teunis got home, we discussed British or Dutch cooking and the past / mustard / pizza / pancakes / chewing / videos / music / lightbulbs / sausage rolls being on sale at Safeway / Google having screenshot previews in their search results now / Tess / Steph's funny BOMBING email / hyperbole / his mother's fruitcake / Jessica's BUS FAIL picture (the #43 Joyce Station almost collided into a tree!) / a "penis monster" in a whale / KMFDM / BULLETS, BOMBS, and BIGOTRY. I've just been adding various "Let's Play!" videos to my Youtube playlists: all four DRAGON WARRIOR games, EARTHBOUND, and FINAL FANTASY 2 (or 4), OREGON TRAIL... yup, all the games I (never really) completed back in the day, haha. While I was busy with that, Vanessa buzzed me - oh my! Talked about Teunis, her job, annoying commutes, Bath and Body Works / Sephora at Richmond Centre, the changes at that mall, cravings for Purdy's, pizza, Church's Fried Chicken, no kitchen where she is, tomatoes, allergies, Jasmine (surrey_sucks), Dave Wong, and more. Josh (aint_no_nothin) also showed up to try convincing me to come back to RT - haha, I don't think so!
