Egg on shirt?! / Orca statues! / CONGEE!

This morning, I discovered that I accidentally laundered my bus pass last night. Then I decided that transferring my stuff was more important than going to church, so I called Lillian to inform her of this, then called Eric to let him know. I'm sure he understands! When Veronica answered the phone, I politely told her that I was good - she probably doesn't want to hear the real story, unless she's heard from Eric already. Oh well. Jon also called to see if we could locate his bus pass in the back of the rental car - sure! Told him that we'd gone for sushi afterwards, heh. Got an email from Vicky about things, which is good. Lillian came by later, and said that Jon had texted her about the bus pass, but she couldn't find it. After I had dropped off most of my stuff at home (and organized most of it), we discussed the changes in Richmond / orca statues near Dragon Ball / chairs / impatient drivers who can't wait for someone with a walker to cross the street / picking up Auntie Kwai / congee.

Grandma was at least awake when we got there, and was able to tolerate a lot of congee without choking... YAY! Her roommate is 96 years old, Jewish, and felt like she was going to die; her lesbian granddaughter wouldn't hear of that because of her wedding next week, haha! Auntie Paula and Auntie Helen came by later, and said that Auntie Eva would pick up my parents from the airport tomorrow and visit. I really need to figure things out with Jon, then - how to tell them if they don't know?! Lillian thinks that Grandma can no longer really control her right hand, which is definitely an effect of what's really been going on! A bit later, she bought me a honey Greek yogurt from Starbucks, and some egg / ham / Chinese buns. Unfortunately, the egg got on my Canucks shirt and ruined it. Maybe I'll try laundering it tonight since I really have no spare shirts! After we told Grandma to sleep some more, I decided to go with Lillian back to Richmond before Grandma's dinner since she's meeting a friend. She's seeing someone tomorrow to give out stuff from her colleagues, but that's in Port Coquitlam! Of course I don't want her to drive everywhere, so a central place to pick people up would be good. Found out that Helen Huynh (from Palmer) added me on Facebook - nice!

Chocolate Candy Shop Blizzard for Miracle Treat Day / Singing Monkeys

Someone called from St. Paul's Hospital to see if Mom could work for someone; that's not going to work so well since she's in Russia at the moment, hahaha! Veronica reminded me about Dairy Queen's Miracle Treat Day, so I stopped in to get a Chocolate Candy Shop mini Blizzard. It was the smallest size available, and perfect for me. There was a lineup out the door! Called Jon later to figure stuff out: maybe Sunday afternoon will work for seeing Ayler! He did say he'd visited Grandma (where they're setting up for that 70s party), who apparently is having trouble swallowing. Maybe THAT'S why she spits out food these days...

There's a singing monkey at the Cream Puff Zoo!

In Magicant: "Whoa, those are some weird clothes you have on there. I bet you'll attract monsters dressed like that!"

Hey, it's the Flying Men of Magicant! They look like parrots!

"I'm a cat that swims in the ground."

"I bent my spoon and it's hard to use like this."

MOTHER 3: Lucas and Boney check the Ultimate Chimera in the Chimera Lab, and the game says "No problem here." Uh, it's going to kill the party if they touch it... there IS a problem! :P

If you guard against the Bonus Swoosh / Groucho, it'll greet everyone politely and leave, which makes your experience points from the fight come out to 72 instead of three.

Upon checking this dragon in the Magicant Crystal Cave: "The dragon is asleep. NINTEN can't wake it up just yet." Probably a good thing!

DRAGON QUEST 4 in Merrysville Elementary!

Big stupid zombie head from the cemetery!

In the MOTHER 1 town of Mother's Day, I tell this guy that I'm a zombie, then get called "a big stupid zombie head" before he runs off!

At the burger place, NINTEN encounters one of his old classmates! "Aren't you NINTEN, that snot-nosed kid who sat next to me in kindergarten? Or are you someone else?" Hey, I'm going to SAVE THE WORLD! Watch what you say!

At the store, the clerk asks if you need to return any items. Saying "no" gets you "Whew... what a relief" in response, hahaha!

Hippie used a Megaphone! "You're a disgrace to your mom!" HAHAHAHA, these enemy "attacks" are hilarious!

Sweaters, BOOM, Hester, genetics, grammar pictures

Finally sorted through my closet and those sweaters; pink things, a brown wool toque which I'll never miss, some socks / sweaters / (T-)shirts, Christmas-themed PJs, pink skirts, and the like all had to go! Actually, the disability knapsack had to go, too. Then I discovered that the toilet handle malfunctioned; I'll call Hester about it and the plumber tomorrow, for sure! (100% certain that she'll tell me to "flush it tenderly - not with a BOOM BOOM BOOM!") Got weird phone calls from Oregon and Washington, too. Later, Chinese Eric tried calling me again, but I missed that till half an hour later! No big deal; we then had a great 45-minute conversation about the Chinese farewell banquet going over my friends' heads last week with the skits / singing, racist Stuart / Carol by association (and the whole backstory), Marissa, Caleb, Connor, Nashville and the Predators, my being very familiar with White Spot since I was there twice last week (oh yeah!), fajita salad, genetics (the first child always looks like the dad so he won't run away!), and learning things in high school which won't apply to life till much later.

We also discussed Jon / Harmony / Ayler, the wedding banquet food yesterday, catching up in a more enthusiastic fashion, tentative hangout plans on Wednesday, the summer weather starting now, renovations, noisy lawnmowers when all you want to do is rest, my not boring him with intense detail (GOOD!), killing time till the weather cools down, how he helped his parents with stuff recently, weird flavors of milkshakes / ice cream, eating rat / snake meat, the gelato place (which he isn't supposed to go to), apple pie ice cream, French fry ice cream, his having curry chicken for dinner, my having dinner later, and more. I told him that Christon had a LOT of England / Scotland photos with Nathan - yes, it's much easier these days without camera film restrictions! Of course, we said that it was always nice talking to the other - he wants to see if he can get Jon / Harmony / the baby out to a dinner buffet one of these days. Hey, the baby will be free - what's he going to eat anyway? NOTHING THERE! If Eric calls me on Tuesday or Wednesday, it'll be all good! I know he's still a bit hesitant on using MSN in case his friends don't get his messages: he says both Nate and I have experienced that, which I totally believe to be true. Got back to the computer to find a dodgy Facebook friend request: NO WAY!

Some grammar pictures which Kaitlin, Julie, Ryan, and Veronica pointed me towards:

San Antonio Marriot Rivercentre: "U R HERE"?!

This was on an actual product. REALLY?! (N and M could be easy enough to transpose, but...)

You had me at your proper use of "You're":

Yoda is reading "GRAMMAR FOR DUMMIES."

I believe in fighting corporate greed with properly spelled protest signs!

You were so attractive until you texted me with your hideous grammar!

FLAMSTERINA, Copa Café rescheduling, and Grandma

Since Auntie Catherine called me at 5 when I was busy thinking over stuff (and sending Sarah G. some FB messages about it), I called her back and left a voicemail message. She returned the call at 10:10, saying that she'd have to reschedule our lunch at the Copa Café because of Mattias' Sports Day at his North Shore preschool. I know she's concerned that we might not have enough time, which is fine by me. Apparently, she'd sent me an email - I never got it because it turns out that she sent it to the wrong address! (she verified the spelling of "flamsterina" with me, hahaha) Man, the church directory is mistaken - or maybe it's her sight? She also told me something which was news to me: apparently, Mom says that Grandma has moved to some long-term care home on Cambie, and shouldn't be taken out of there for about a week to get her used to the new environment. That last part sounds about right to me.

Batteries exploding and penis-shrinking chemicals!

After I ate the last of my Easter candy and found out that L.A. would advance to the Stanley Cup Final, Corey replied to my Skype message about the laptop noises:

[12:04:33 PM] Leslie: and now my laptop is going to die since it's making screechy noises.
[7:55:50 PM] Leslie: I think my computer is going to die - wait, I told you that already. Maybe it needs to be cleaned.
[9:50:49 PM] Corey: sounds like a fan problem
[9:53:35 PM] Leslie: so is the computer going to explode?
[9:59:01 PM] Corey: probably
[10:09:34 PM] Leslie: seriously
[10:10:26 PM] Corey: the explosion is about the same as a standard military hand grenade
[10:13:42 PM] Leslie: I want 100% truth from you
[10:14:05 PM] Corey: well, do YOU think it will explode?
[10:14:54 PM] Leslie: I'm going to fart on you if you don't answer me
[10:15:28 PM] Corey: okay
[10:16:04 PM] Corey: the only way it will explode is if it was made in China
[10:16:14 PM] Corey: their batteries are known for exploding
[10:18:11 PM] Leslie: oh shit
[10:18:23 PM] Leslie: I think Eric got this in Hong Kong
[10:20:20 PM] Corey: if it's a real computer brand, not something weird, it won't explode........ but if you buy cheap replacement batteries from China, they don't follow the proper safety standards, and those literally can explode. you've probably seen stories about phones and computers blowing up in airports
[10:20:49 PM] Corey: that only happens with cheap Chinese batteries. the last time I bought a phone battery here, they assured me it was made in Taiwan and won't explode
[10:21:49 PM] Corey: though I don't really trust Taiwanese brands much more... they caught a huge food company putting poison in basically every drink sold in Taiwan last year, and I almost definitely drank some of it
[10:27:55 PM] Leslie: yeah, I've seen those stories... and you WHAT?! OH MY GOD
[10:28:58 PM] Leslie: how did they catch that?
[10:30:27 PM] Corey: I don't know. I think the government actually bothered to test something and discovered it
[10:31:05 PM] Corey: look it up, it's called DEHP, and appears to be pretty nasty. they used it instead of some food additive, because apparently nobody would notice the difference and the poison is cheaper
[10:31:49 PM] Corey: in general here, people only think things are bad if they get caught. so everyone thinks that company is evil, but if they weren't caught and a lot of people knew it, they'd just say it was business
[10:31:59 PM] Corey: people here lie and cheat an awful lot
[10:32:24 PM] Leslie: I'm not surprised they used it because it was cheaper.
[10:32:29 PM] Corey: not that people in the West don't, either... but the culture is pretty different. EVERYONE in school cheats.
[10:32:42 PM] Corey: they're almost trained to
[10:32:42 PM] Leslie: and I take it that gets glossed over?
[10:33:30 PM] Leslie: what the hell.... according to my search results, DEHP is one of the top six chemical threats to humans.
[10:34:07 PM] Corey: yay!
[10:38:10 PM] Leslie Ng: Penis-Shrinking Chemical Banned?
[10:39:35 PM] corey_t: yeah!!!
[10:42:02 PM] Leslie Ng: Taiwanese products with DEHP named

Pastor Bob Canada divorce laws (dream)

I had a dream that Mom and I were taking a class at a local school; Harmony was going to join us, but she couldn't make it. Christon and others showed up with a bunch of food, and announced that Pastor Bob was leaving the church because he disagreed with the congregational committee's stance on Canada's divorce laws. Pastor Bob and his wife Amy were there to explain their views, but the first thing I thought was "GOOD! SERVICE WILL GET BACK TO NORMAL!" Then Jordan showed up, screaming about a dead body. It was true... Jason had died! Everyone else came from the gym bleachers to discuss these developments. The dream ended when people were writing things down on huge white sheets of paper. Triggers: talking to Christon about Pastor Bob on Sunday, Christon's "life timeline" exercise on Friday, seeing Jordan on Sunday, talking about pastors leaving the church on Friday, and Harmony not being able to make it to church on Sunday. WEIRD!

Jane, Mandarin, Nell, short people, BLECH, and tones

Jane W. sent an email thanking me for my gift of a picture frame, which was nice and polite. I replied to Mandy's email as I did this morning, too. Nell J. wanted to add me on FB via the Puckheads, so why not? Corey then got on MSN to tell me that short people suck; I knew he was doing it on purpose to get me to yell at him, which I did anyway since I've missed that. Yes, I do miss the strangest things, haha! Apparently, old ladies won't get things from the low shelves for him, but that's understandable! He says he had a class on prank calls today, too. I also asked him if he'd heard about those nasty urine-cooked eggs, then we talked about Mandarin / Cantonese and McDonalds. "Well, even if the tones are right, there's still like a billion words that all have the same sound AND tone. It's not a very good system in my opinion... have more possible sounds :P Longer words, maybe... something to differentiate between all the things that sound exactly alike."
"Jane says it's because Chinese people are smarter and can tell the difference. I say it's because the person that invented it didn't think things through well enough. :P English is kind of a big mess, too, but at least our words are mostly distinguishable, and we have writing that's possible to read without years of study. Even I can say 'Happy Birthday.' :P Well, sometimes people tell me I'm perfect, and sometimes people tell me they totally can't understand me since I usually forget the tones. At McDonalds a couple times, they tried to give me #10 instead of #4 (4 is si, 10 is shi) I held my fingers up when I said it, and other people say I pronounce it PERFECTLY, so I think they were just dumb. Some people are afraid of using Chinese with me anyway, so they just switch to broken English and make mistakes. They really don't even listen to my Chinese, unless I want them to speak English... then they can't speak a word. :P"

This is what he had to say about teaching: "I had a class about prank calls today. The classes yesterday were okay, the ones today weren't that enthusiastic, but my afternoon class (which is normally dead) was extra small because it's Tomb Sweeping Day tomorrow, so not many people came. Small classes generally will talk more.  the more people that come, the quieter they get. They're mostly afraid of each other, more than me. My night class is usually terrible, but a lady that knows all my complaints recently encouraged a new girl to talk to me. That worked, and this girl is like my new best student, and now SHE is encouraging other people to talk, too... if that chain continues, we just might fix everything for a while. Last night's class was great, and I have heard about pee eggs. Blech. They say Chinese people will eat anything... that might not be literally true, but I think it's close. :P"

Then I said that I should try sleeping at 2:33 AM. He replied with, "I should try eating now. It's 5:35 PM, and I have to leave in 45 minutes to go teach my Superior class about the Razzies for two hours. It's the Superior class, and they talk a lot. I need like three hours with them regardless of the topic, most of the time. They actually use English, which is why they're in the Superior class. :P The problem with them is that they like to hear themselves talk, and don't want to listen to much of what I say. That's a better problem than my other classes, though."

Josh's hair covered his face?! / Cory and Nicholas sharing my tomato rice (dream)

Talked briefly to David S. on YM and Troy A. via Facebook messages before going to bed last night, and am talking to Brandi now about stuff. Dreamed of talking to Josh in a multi-floor school with blue-and-pink carpets. Suddenly, his hair went down and covered his face, causing him to go blind and not remember what happened for half an hour! I was with Helen's kids Cory and Nicholas, since they were sharing my plate of rice with tomato sauce. Nicholas told me that this was their favorite thing to eat - I didn't mind sharing the huge amount of rice! Their parents Helen and Danny didn't have to tell me to hide the kids' faces in my lap when Josh's hair covered his face! When the effect on Josh wore off, we asked him why his hair had done that; he couldn't think of why.

Later, Uncle Sam and Auntie Susanna came in with a cane and a black dog, which apparently helped them get around since they both had eye disorders. I briefly went out of the room to see what was going on outside, and saw kids turned around and lined up - someone could almost leapfrog over the kids' backs! Auntie Bessy genuinely thanked me for wandering around in the halls: this allowed Auntie Eva to see where I was, since she would be looking for me later. Triggers: Seeing Josh post family pictures of him / Joanna / little Nina on Facebook, reading Mom's email in which she told me to go to church on the 18th (or else Auntie Eva "will have a heart attack"), and seeing Uncle Sam at church a few weeks ago. Weird!

3-1 loss in Nashville / Corey and Bryan were what I needed...

DAMMIT... the Canucks lost 3-1 to Nashville tonight! Of course, the "no regulation loss" streak had to end sometime, but still. Updated Corey and Bryan about things, and it at least was good to talk to Corey after a couple of months. Yeah, I still miss a certain someone, but I will stay strong! Benefit of the doubt, maybe... not so sure about other things. Talked about Taiwan and truculent students, which is good - I had to laugh a lot for some reason (maybe the past few days!), even though intrusive personal questions aren't funny in the least! Discussed grammar, memorization, Skype, people not even learning things from one class to the next, language, rules hurting the student, money, personal things, defenestration, birthdays, Teunis, insults, Paul, Korey, and more. That's what I needed!

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfumes, AWESOME friend time, 2-1 loss

I got a package from an unfamiliar address, which apparently contained bubble wrap. When I opened it, I found that it was for a GOOD REASON: there were some BPAL (Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs) perfume vials inside, along with a card from Chase AKA chasethecat! (Amber Chocolate, Florence, Undertow, Hellcat, and Intrigue) Chase also included happy face / snowman / animal / lion / monkey / Christmas / heart / dog / ornament / rose / fairy / reindeer stickers, and a long string with map triangles stuck on it. Good thing that Teunis isn't living here anymore, otherwise he'd probably complain endlessly about the perfume! (you should have heard him bitch about my scented FABRIC SHEETS for MY laundry, saying he had trouble breathing!)

Someone named Paul Iverson wanted to add me to Facebook; I only vaguely remember the name from school, but not the actual person, so DENIED! Called Steph after the 2-1 loss to the Panthers to make our dinner plans for Thursday (since they don't have to work the next day) at 6:30 at the PEACEFUL restaurant just off the Canada Line... I guess I can catch a bit of the game before I gotta leave. Seems only fair to meet her and Lisa in Vancouver! Also called Chinese Eric to update him on EVERYTHING, so YAY!

We talked about that funny email, Fay, reassurances that I wasn't mean (understandable considering the past treatment!), Nathan and Ciel, how some people are lucky during dating (like Jon and Harmony), MissionsFest, hanging out, and getting online. Also discussed our health issues (he wished me good luck with mine), medical journals, common symptoms not being just a cold or flu, early treatment, people looking for sympathy, Chinese New Year plans, Hotmail, spam (like Rolex watches), grandmothers, wheelchairs / accessibility, family time, and more stuff. That was what my heart needed - BEST AWESOME FRIENDS. :D

OBORIL is familiar... / Virtual purges!

Went to sleep at 5:15 and got up about four hours later; I guess that works for now. Also heard that Kim Jong Il is dead! Discovered that Jason Oboril wanted to add me to Facebook - the name sounds vaguely familiar from Palmer / McNair, but that's as far as it goes. NO ADDING FOR YOU! I did somewhat of a virtual purge (and some judicious editing), and found that Reebee wasn't on Facebook anymore - WTF?! Thank goodness you can view photos and notes of someone on their profile page!

MORS, Jason Ackerman, bedframes, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Teunis / Yule

Decided to not go out after all, which turned out to be a good thing as I finally found a Mors enemy in FINAL FANTASY IV Advance before I made dinner (Butter and Herb Sidekicks!) for me and a bedframe-bringing Teunis, and found out that Jason Ackerman wanted to add me to Facebook - HAHAHA, NICE! Tarantula and Jehovah's Witnesses memories from Ferris! If his birthday isn't fake, it's on Halloween... heh heh heh! When Teunis got here, we talked about Yule / Christmas (cards) / Easter / Tess / California / storage / Islamic thought / creationism vs. evolution / student loans / Kate Bush / hockey / football / New Year's / pagan stuff / seasons. We also discussed gaming / Fort St. John / allergies / the bedframe on wheels, boards, and replacing old mattresses / mice / thanking me for dinner / the mail / Christmas cards / Mom and Randal thinking that he'd become a Christian if he went to church enough. (SO NOT TRUE!)

EARTHBOUND ZERO / MOTHER 3 / What's Your Ideal Weather? / What Should You Get a PhD In?

Discovered a fan translation of MOTHER 1 (EARTHBOUND ZERO) and 2, plus MOTHER 3 last night. Had an incipient headache at 2 AM, so had to go to bed. Felt like dying till I finally got to sleep - now that I'm awake, I feel lots better! :D

Your Ideal Weather is Heavy Rain

You don't mind being around others, but you prefer to spend the bulk of your time by yourself.

You don't mind spending a little more to indulge your cravings. You like to pamper yourself.

You like to think everything through throughly and carefully. You don't make snap decisions.

You don't dislike alone time... in fact, you savor it. You grow and learn the most when you're by yourself.

I must say that the description fits, but I don't like heavy rain personally!

You should get your PhD in Education

You have a lot of inner strength, and you can dig deep when you need to. You are resilient.

You are both patient and persistent. You don't give up on anything or anyone.

You have what it takes to be an amazing educator - no matter what the subject is or who the students are.

You are good at meeting people where they are, and you'll work hard to make sure they learn what you are teaching them.

TROGDOR in HELLFIRE CHASM! / Vanessa, Andrea, and high school

Vanessa came on MSN and said stuff about 10 AM tomorrow (ugh), City Fresh Market, busing to Granville Island from her aunt's, coffee at a Greek store on Broadway (?!), Galloway's, and more. She didn't know what Trillian was, haha! At least this provides the perfect excuse I need to get out of the missions conference tonight - waking up early is going to be hard enough without blogging the whole experience, after all. I need to go to the bank plus London Drugs, since I need replacement plastic wrap / wax paper / aluminum foil (stupid Paul) and Excel White gum before 3, just to be safe for my weekly tradition! Andrea called to see if we could hang out near Richmond Centre - OF COURSE! Eric bugged me as soon as I got online - NO TIME!

A Homestar Runner reference in FINAL FANTASY 1 DAWN OF SOULS' HELLFIRE CHASM... gotta love Trogdor the Burninator!

People Remember You as Popular

In high school, you lived a charmed life - and everyone knew it. You were well-known and well-liked.

You wanted people to be comfortable around you, but not at the expense of you stealing the limelight.

You were always an optimist, and people enjoyed being around you. You were a friend to almost everyone.

You didn't try to be popular; you just tried to be yourself. You were just naturally likable.

JERK'S STUFF IS IN?! / The Classroom Test

Deb wanted me to move the jerk's stuff in for her own peace of mind - fine, I suppose so. Ugh, I can hardly wait till it's over! Lisa So deleted her FB or something, too.

You Are a Bored Student

You are easily bored, and you always find unique ways to do things. You go crazy if you're not allowed to innovate.

You get restless if you have to endure something tedious for too long. You have to break free.

You don't just dream it, you do it. And that's why you're so successful.

You may seem like an underachiever, but that's only when you are expected to achieve by others' standards.

Gigs and back to school

Jon has a gig after Wednesday's dinner, which is fine by me!

You Are Colored Pencils

You let yourself escape whenever you need to. You don't think there's anything wrong with a little daydreaming.

You dabble in creativity as often as you can. You are a major doodler.

You are a natural writer of all sorts. You are equally suited writing essays, journals, and fiction.

You always have a lot of color in everything you do. No one could accuse you of being boring.
