24 hours up and four hours asleep... knives, Norse legend, and printers!

Turns out Andrew called Teunis from the Olympic Oval at 10:55 AM since he was bored on his break and wanted to go for lunch; after a shower, he was outta here after I looked up driving directions on Google Maps. Before deciding that I simply had to get some sleep at 12:15 PM, I called Henry to say I thought I wouldn't be able to make it to Awana; this turned out to be courteous and good since I slept till about the time he might have called me anyway (3:40), and wasn't in any shape for a typical Awana afternoon! I can always give the peanut butter cups / chocolate hearts to Ian and Sean later, haha.

Teunis left a bit afterwards, but we discussed scaring kids with lychee bubble tea / grass jelly / coconut jelly (that combination apparently looks like floating tentacles), Memory Express on Tuesday / deals / Windows 7 / inkjet vs. laser printers (toner and storage and such), and Pearl Harbor / propaganda. We also talked about building delays into your plans to leave, Rush, mocha pie, energy drinks, his code project, strawberry bubble tea at Yaohan (GWEI LOH), robot parts, knives / safety / Norse legend / Odin and gifts with a catch / dragons on piles of gold, the cost of an interruption, concern at not seeing someone for two weeks, and gaming at Andrew's. After he left, I threw a whole bunch of stuff away / did laundry / had a beef pot pie / saved the rest of the Russell Stover chocolates (only three) and Smartfood popcorn for later.

Patrick Stewart, NEVERWINTER NIGHTS, OBLIVION, TROLL IN THE DUNGEON!

Teunis and I discussed Patrick Stewart (wasn't sure if I liked his voice!) and his voiceover for the OBLIVION opening, oatcakes, snacks, needing to upgrade to Windows 7 for programming kit purposes, his computer crashing / locking, and NEVERWINTER NIGHTS. We also talked about Fort St. John liking classic rock / Top 40, new country music (classic country sounds too whiny for him), Limp Bizkit, the Illuminati and its origins, insensitive comments, some guy named Steve Jackson, DISCORDIA / ERIS, "TROLL IN THE DUNGEON!!!", and more. I haven't been to bed yet since I'm catching up - UGH.

Catching up IS a priority with such world news as we have... / Being right about scammers

Before I went out tonight, Teunis and I discussed his midnight bedtime / my trying not to make noise even if he's trying to sleep OR hard to wake up / local-ish jobs / hot chocolate (no brandy!) / Rammstein / Dimmu Borgir / the shrimp crackers / Hardbite BBQ chips / using his milk / Kula Shaker (I remember them from back in the day!) / food in general. When Eric picked me up, all I could do was rant because I would really have rather stayed home and caught up on at least three mega-posts online! He thinks I should give up the Internet for Lent, but since I use it for communication / information like the NEWS, that is NOT happening!

Met up with Kevin, Martin, and Christon at church - I didn't really pay much attention to the Bible Study since it was about the weeds parable, *and* I really wished to be home. Eric later said that I was becoming a cyborg (with attachments to computers and NOT humans), that he was an introvert who liked spending time with people to know them better (I'd have agreed a year ago), that the Mexican mole was good, and that I should try NOT catching up. NO WAY! He also reminded me about the time change... um, thanks a LOT! (we also discussed "Big Country" Reeves, the Grizzlies, the expensive Canucks seats, games, and more)

When I got home, I saw a note on the door about that scammer from a few nights ago - I *knew* she wasn't from the apartment! Told Teunis about that, then we discussed stereotypes / Surrey / reality. Then he played that song ("can you dig it?") which reminded him of the combination of GWAR's Sammy and Korn's cover of the Radiohead tune Creep. Discussed Joss Whedon (the BUFFY guy) getting honored for writing strong female characters; not surprised that he got annoyed at the question and said that he'd continue doing so until it was something unremarkable, hahaha. Now it's really time to catch up!

I heard Justin Bieber as a radio commercial on the way home, and commented that people were right: he DOES sound like a girl! Eric stated that he sounded like ME (to joke around?), and I instantly said that I was more hardcore than Justin Bieber will EVER be!

Japanese earthquake, Blogs of War, Corey in tsunami zone, mirrors

Stayed up till 4:30 AM reading about the Japanese 8.9 earthquake - some people are SO idiotic in their tweets on the Blog of War Crisis Monitor! "Why doesn't everyone use their jetpack to fly off the roof?" "Glad Japan released Pokemon Black and Pokemon White before they got washed away!" UGH!

When I saw Corey online, I told him to get out of where he was because of the tsunami warning / watch for Taiwan / Taipei, and he had this to say: "Tsunami warning? Okay, the news says it will have minimal impact on the coast, and that it will hit Hualien (southeast... I'm northwest) 20-inch wave. :P" So then I responded "oh.... you're not there... I saw "20-inch wave" :P" Just got this as on offliner: "My connection keeps dying tonight. I was saying the tsunami is no big deal here... sounds like it messed up Tokyo, but it's only a 20-inch-high wave here.... so.... mei guan shi (no problem):P " HA, I KNOW WHAT THE MANDARIN MEANS! :P

After I got up and took a shower, I had a piece of the mocha pie for breakfast. Teunis and I then discussed the earthquake, Australia fires, David Bowie / Puff Daddy, Iron Maiden's original HALLOWED BE THY NAME (I like Cradle of Filth's cover better!), King Crimson, toast, and more.

Recreating Corey's music DVD on Youtube / Vanessa / INTENSE mocha pie!

While I was busily trying to recreate Corey's music DVD on my Youtube playlists (only without all the duplicates - some songs aren't on there!), Vanessa buzzed me on Facebook chat. We talked about her former boss, bubble tea, supper in Richmond, Purdy's peanut butter eggs (in Richmond Centre AND Lansdowne!), Valentine's Day Reese's peanut butter cups, Wayne, UBC, the commute from here to Victoria, the White Spot in Richmond Centre, Purdy's caramels with salt (gross contrast between the sweet and salty!), and trends. Then Teunis and I were busy with our respective things, but did chat about the Dave Brockie Experience / GWAR being silly (Sexecutioner lyrics: "And when you are in France / you pull down your pants"), and the Misfits tune Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight? - HAHAHAHA!

He decided to make some mocha pie where one slice has the equivalent of a pot of coffee - OH MY! Then he commented on a mix of GWAR's Sammy and Korn's cover of the Radiohead song Creep - trust me, it was TWO videos and not three, hahaha! Said he had a song which sounded like that, but maybe later since he went to bed before midnight; that was fair, as he'd been up since 3 AM. Then I heard about the earthquake in Japan - Justin and Trevor seem to be okay, and I hope Melissa is too!

Word Facts for Mar. 5-11, 2011

Word origin for the weekend of Mar. 5-6, 2011: dungaree - In Hindi, dungri is a kind of rough calico that is often used to make durable work clothing. Imported to England, the cloth was dyed blue, the preferred color for manual laborers. (thus our phrase "blue-collar workers") Thus colored, the cloth resembles denim, and the word "dungarees" is sometimes used interchangeably with "blue jeans."

Word origin for Mar. 7, 2011: password fatigue - Do you have password fatigue? Most modern users, it would seem safe to guess, do... worn to a frazzle by having to memorize passwords to enter various closed sites. Coined on the analogy of mental fatigue and battle fatigue, the phrase turns up in computer magazines in the mid-1990s.

Word origin for Mar. 8, 2011: laissez les bon temps rouler - Visitors to New Orleans or fans of zydeco music know the phrase laissez les bon temps rouler, which is the French equivalent of an African-American expression from the South, "Let the good times roll." Both phrases have entered common American speech, and although it is not definitively known which one preceded the other, each exhorts us to relax and have a good time. Happy Mardi Gras!

Word origin for Mar. 9, 2011: congregation - The word for an assembly of people, and specifically an assembly of churchgoers, comes from the Greek gregos ("flock") and the Latin con ("with" or "together") ... the origin lays bare the metaphor of clerics as pastors - shepherds, that is - and of the Good Shepherd.

Word origin for Mar. 10, 2011: Dalmatian - The breed of dog with white coat and black spots was first imported in England in 1810 and traveled from there to the United States, where it soon became one of the more popular varieties of dog, and remains so today. It was originally bred in Croatia, where it was called dalmatinac - that is, from Dalmatia, a coastal region along the Adriatic Sea.

Word origin for Mar. 11, 2011: diaper - In medieval times, a "diaper," whose root is the Greek word aspros ("white") was any kind of white, loosely woven linen such as a farm worker might wear on a hot day. It came to be used for a garment for babies only in the nineteenth century, and then mostly in the United States. In Britain and other English-speaking nations, the preferred term remains "napkin," often shortened to "nappy."

Talking in your sleep? / Servers / Soul Sign

Teunis woke up at 3 AM, wishing me a good day, but of course I assumed he was talking in his sleep (even though he doesn't usually do that to my knowledge), so I ignored it till he actually got up. We discussed his server, coffee grinding (do it while I'm still up), Google, stuff he's wanted to do for some time, errands, and more prior to my going to bed at 4. I got up at 10:40, which I do realize is early... it's the annual curse of light!

Grape seed oil with lemongrass, and cherry seed oil with mint... YAY!

I went out earlier to cash my Telus rebate cheque before the bank closed / get some blueberry bubble tea from Big Orange, then I went to London Drugs to return those extra Scottish Highland oatcakes. While I was there, I bought pads / Dial Nutri-Skin Grape Seed Oil with Lemongrass body wash / Dial Nutri-Skin Cherry Seed Oil body wash AND hand soap / hand sanitizer / on-sale toilet paper / envelopes. Got home and talked to Teunis for a bit about webcomics, Dominic Deegan, computer wireless issues, heavy metal, and more prior to his falling asleep at 6:15. Also called Steph to update her about Justin L. being in Japan during the 7.3 earthquake, and Dianne going to Calgary for work.

Brandy x2, Prozzäk, exes as used toys, love temperament

Turns out that Teunis was up before me - the poor guy's been trying to sleep, but it just isn't working! We discussed brandy for his hot chocolate (it's a treat), vibrators, grandmas, sex in general / Dan Savage, the PERSON Brandy (mspixiegirl), Alicia's friend Shauna, Scott, Alicia, interesting friends like Norman, Prozzäk (I remember listening to that at Billie's in January!), that Persian carbonated drink (he's had it also), the Alice Cooper tribute band, a sorcerer webcomic, "macaroni and cheese" with spinach noodles, cheese graters, and more. We got a laugh out of Lisa B.'s status: "I never get jealous when I see my ex with someone else, because my parents always taught me to give my used toys to the less fortunate."

Your Dating Temperament is Phlegmatic

You are a stable and calm force in relationships. You deflect drama.

POTATO MASHER!!!! / Wasting a London Drugs trip!

Teunis came back briefly to look for his wallet, then said he'd walked to Chapters to look at programming stuff - he went out again to drive to London Drugs (he was there earlier in the computer area) / Save-On to get cheese, a cooking utensil which he didn't remember the name of (but does remember what it looks like), and some other stuff. I guess his foot's had enough of walking - it would have been funny had we bumped into each other at London Drugs before, haha! This reminds me that I need a fork / a new zippered pencil case, but I can do that another time! He came back later with an on-sale mixer ($15 - too noisy?!), an on-sale potato masher ($8 - he's missing the one in storage), and an on-sale whisk because he couldn't find mine... eh, it was in the drawer with the rest of the cutlery, but I guess it was easy to miss. Then he had pizza since all he'd had so far was crumpets and coffee... nice, nice. (he wondered if I was out watching the Coyotes hockey game since he saw it on the pub TV; nope, but we DID win 4-3 in OT!)

Matt1993 added me on LJ, too - that autistic guy's userinfo is interesting and quirky! Teunis says he's upgrading to Windows 7, so of COURSE he has to read some code! Eric just realized he has a conflict for the ping-pong program in two weeks since he has Canucks tickets; hey, I wasn't planning to go to the program ANYWAY! Maybe I'll just return the extraneous oatcakes at some point, hahaha. I don't think we need them right now! Teunis and I also discussed his server, Google, money, WOW prices ($15 a month), that egg liqueur he introduced me to last summer, speakers / sound / setup, soldering, and more. Had to do a lot of editing tonight, too...

Pancakes with cheesecake / Baby Mickey stickers / NEW YORK!

46% speaker volume seemed to do the trick for Teunis getting up, which was fine since I didn't really want to go TOTALLY OBNOXIOUS and raise it to 75% - hahahaha. Soon after, I went out to get pancakes from IHOP - since they had a special featuring two pancakes with cheesecake batter between them / two bacon strips / hash browns / two eggs, I got that! After I ate, I went to A&W for an Uncle Burger (with sirloin!) to go. However, I was foiled at McDonalds in my quest for a buttermilk biscuit - ONLY BREAKFAST?! I did get an ice cream cone for nostalgia purposes, of course.

Then I went to Hallmark Cards to replenish my sticker collection (which I do occasionally) at Hallmark - Disney, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, baby Mickey Mouse, small hearts / stars, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, happy face "school progress" stickers for Cindy, and NEW YORK CITY ones (cabs / 5th Avenue / Statue of Liberty / Broadway / signs) for Jennifer Lumpkin! I kept the selection as gender-neutral as possible, hahaha. Finally, I went to London Drugs and got oatcakes / two Arizona Brisk iced teas. Got home to find I had the place to myself - haha, at least my stomach is happy! Also had to change the Ziploc bag I used for the stickers, since the seal had broken on the old one.

Mardi Gras, International Women's Day, pancakes, and TV dinners

HAPPY MARDI GRAS!
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!

At 3 AM, Teunis decided to make an old favorite dish of his, which consisted of rice / frozen veggies / sausage. Interesting! He said I could wake him up when I got up, so I am playing KMFDM and other things at 30% speaker volume in an attempt to do this. I got a rebate cheque from Telus in the mail, along with McDonalds coupons - I guess those will go to Wes, hahaha. Then again, I could just go for pancakes like I was going to do seven years ago, only Ricky's is now the Tim Horton's. What to do?! Hmm... IHOP? Hahaha!

GWAR Village! / Joey, lychee, WALLET SCAM, and KEEPING RECEIPTS

When Teunis got up, we discussed some more things: mathematics of error and land surveying, GWAR, Joey / Sam / Emily, the lychee grass jelly drink, fish dying in music videos / running jokes, Tea Party / Ugly Kid Joe / Infinitism (his stepbrother is the cello player!), kobold quotes from DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS ONLINE, Hawaiian pizza, tomatoes, trade-offs, sleeping earlier, hope, the guy behind DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS (I've read about Gary Gygas - sounds like Giygas from EARTHBOUND! - in a Bathroom Reader!), and more. I put on my own metal playlist, which suited my mood!

Then a neighbor tried scamming me by saying she'd lost her wallet, has cancer, didn't want to disturb me, lost her bank card, and needed money tonight for medicine - I DON'T THINK SO! I note that snacks for Christon's group is up soon, like next Friday. That's my group; if I end up not going because the stupid program is PING-PONG (of all things!), I can always keep the oatcakes (my plan) for myself, but I need to KEEP THE DAMN RECEIPT until then! NOTE TO SELF, indeed!
