Almond Roca, Walker's shortbread, potential Christmas stuff, dancing for Corey

Earlier tonight, I decided to open the gifts I got from Rosanna (or more accurately, her parents) and Yazmine: Almond Roca and a memo pad / a huge box of Walker's shortbread. Typical Christmas stuff, but very much appreciated all the same! :D

My mom SAYS she'll get me a microwave, so I'll see on that one. Steph's forgotten the $55 UT hoodie in Toronto, and Jon's gift to me (the newest Ripley's book) has already arrived... I'll see what else I get tomorrow. It's also been a joy giving wanted items to various people, as well. :)

Must try to sleep early, so I don't accidentally miss Christmas service and helping with the kids tomorrow... but not yet, as Corey's commanding me to dance for him. :P

Christmas cards, attempted package deliveries, lovely greetings, and quizzes

I got two Christmas cards today from Lizzie and Carolee: coincidentally, they both had cats on the front -- and both had their messages written in green pen. At first, I couldn't figure out who "Elizabeth Hartman" was.. but I twigged it once I opened the envelope. :D Carolee's note was very heartwarming and appreciated, and Lizzie's said something like: "I hope 2005 brings you geographically closer to Stephen, or at least lots of visits!" Somehow, I don't think either is going to happen. (there's no usual qualification of "you never know" here, today! :P)

I also got a mail delivery notice about a parcel delivery that was attempted yesterday... I guess I was still sleeping. *blush* I'm certainly not going today or in the next couple of days to that post office, for obvious reasons! Next week, probably... I'll have to figure out which bus to take, as it's not even the one closest to me. I'll also remember my photo AND address identification, as there was this one time years ago that I had to go back again because I forgot one or the other!

My sister just messaged me with the news that Mom bought her Metamucil.. I *really* don't need to know these things, especially when I'm eating lunch! :P

I got a beautiful online Christmas greeting from Steve and Carol at Our Place, directed at the whole message board! :D

I also got a lovely online greeting from my friend Nicola in England:

Another MS Paint picture, and My Random Object / Element / Jones Holiday Soda / Music

My sister asked if I wanted to see Bridget Jones 2, but I can't be bothered: I'm too busy catching up on the stuff I missed! (like at least 85 journal comments, my regular email, the friends pages, etc.) She then said "your loss," but I think this is MUCH better than more family time with them! ;)

Claudia saw the MS Paint pictures from Andre and Kat, then jacked the idea:

Your Element Is Water

A bit of a contradiction, you can seem both lighthearted
and serious. That's because you're good at going with the flow - but you also
are deep. Highly intuitive, you tune in to people's emotions and moods easily.
You are able to tap into deep emotional connections and connect with others.
You prefer a smooth, harmonious life - but you can navigate your way around
waves. You have a knack for getting people to get along and making life a little
more peaceful.

You Are Green Bean Casserole Soda

Vegetarians taste better!

Hahahaha! This doesn't QUITE describe me, but it's close enough! ;)

You are a guitar.

You are a musical genius... congratulations. Most people think you are a little obsessed with music, but that's okay. You don't care what other people think. You are independent, and would rather have a few good (and weird) friends than a lot of not-so-good ones. You may feel that people run down your eccentricity, but that's only because they're jealous. You will most likely become very successful with your musical talent. \m/ Rock on!

Most compatible with: Drumstick.

Christmas cards and MS Paint drawings

I've gotten a few Christmas cards and such in the last few days from Lisa (a postcard), Sara, Heather, Misty, John, Kat, and Andre. John's card featured a cartoon of a dog peeing on a snowman, melting a chunk out of it in the process. This is what he wrote inside the card: "The snowman with the chunk taken out of it kind of reminds me of your journal icon! You know, the one where the one guy is smacking the other guy with his own body part." That is SO true! *laugh* (it's the first picture below)

Andre and Kat did up some MS Paint things for me.. the first one is Kat's, and the other one is Andre's. I love these friends! :D

Phone lines, bombing journal, plans, my sore back

I called my brother this afternoon to see when they'd pick up our sister from the airport. Jon said he'd call back and let me know about Steph. So I left my phone lines open to calls, without the usual defense of Call Block. I didn't get one phone call.. imagine my surprise when I checked my Graffiti and found an email from my brother, asking where my reliability was because they'd tried to call me a few times. My phone lines can be weird, even if my parents are kinda frustrated by what they think is my stubbornness and the non-family orientation. It's not what they perceive, coz it's the truth! (maybe phone line problems are contagious, haha)

When I called the townhouse after getting that email, my brother answered and wondered what had been up with me. It was my phone lines, I told him. He thought that was a stupid excuse and said so.. if only I could say that to certain people without serious repercussions, I'd be SO golden! ;) But I told him that it was true, and not just an excuse. I'd rather have seen my sister than be home... at least, after I finished typing up / emailing an article on the Christmas light displays around the Vancouver area for someone. :P (and that took two and a half hours.. I didn't know it would take so long!)

Talked to my sister for a while... she forgot the UT hoodie in Toronto, since she was so busy with stuff. Steph thought I was being shallow when I joked that she'd have to pay for the omission.. of course I wasn't, since it was a JOKE. We'll see if she'll remember to give it to Mom in February when she visits... that is, if she's even bought it. :P She won't let me have the road trip bombing journal, either.. she doesn't trust me with it, thinks I'll burn it, and thinks I will type it all out for online people to see.

My mom told me about a bunch of family dinners and things coming up in the next week and a half, so we'll see how many of them I actually go to! I think I'll have to go over to the townhouse on Christmas Eve, as I have to be at church early on Christmas Day to help with all the (Awana) kids. Unlike that sister of mine, I won't be forgetting anyone's stuff for Christmas / birthdays... I'm better than she is with that!

I just hope my back holds up through all this... I think it started getting painful after the movie night on Monday. I would do Corey's back bridges or something, but it's too painful to even think of moving much. :| At least it's not related to the accident I was in last year!

Tonight's bonding time over ROTK:EE

Eric, Eunice, Sheena, Jon, Phil, Christon, Alan, Nathan, his friend Andrew, Dave, Cindy, her friend Jin, Edwin, Vivian, and I all congregated at Nate's to watch ROTK:EE tonight. It was very interesting.. they extended a lot of scenes, but didn't just add pointless ones to make it longer. Thank goodness they didn't extend the ending as Alan thought they might! Some of us were falling asleep / losing interest in the movie as it went on, but the battle scenes woke us up!

When we learned that Cindy hadn't seen any of the LOTR movies, we tried to give her an overview. Sheena tried giving her a description of the basics (the Ring's origins included), but Cindy wanted the big picture. As Christon said, Jon's description was very accurate: "Good things happen, bad things happen, and people die." It wouldn't have been a good idea to stay and watch all three movies for her edification, extended editions or not.. we would be here till tomorrow afternoon or so, if we wanted to sleep / eat / take extended pee breaks in the meantime!

We had fun with Nathan's stuffed animals (especially the camels), and the Gollum / Smeagol doll. Nathan told us the story of why the camel was his trademark: it grew out of random drawings in his friends' yearbooks. There were some hilarious moments in the movie's extended scenes... Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas go to recruit some undead (?) people to help them in a battle; when they successfully convince them to help in their cause, skulls rain down the mountain. Eunice thought they were potatoes at first.. crunchy skulls are definitely not potatoes, even if they look similar! ;)

Definitely a good night out.. Eric asked if it rocked, and I had to tell him that it certainly did! There were times when I wanted certain things, but the night was good nonetheless. Human contact is important to me.. thank goodness that Nathan tried catching me when I entered the house and fell on the foyer, which was way too slippery! (I didn't get injured, and CPR wasn't needed since I was okay) Bonding time with friends really rules! :)

The closing credits went on for more than ten minutes, including the list of all the people in the LOTR fan club. There were 76 chapters in the entire movie, and Eric expressed disbelief over "the mouth of Sauron".. it was just an eye! By the way, I opened Word to spellcheck this entry, and I found it amusing that Nathan's copy of the program is licensed to "Rising Phoenix" from the "Land of Chocolate." Tee hee. :D

Jon is currently telling his friend Tally that it's all right that she called him on Nathan's house line.. he says he is like the third son over here. He is also telling her that it's okay for him to be on their phone this late, since Nathan's parents are like workaholics / people with extreme amounts of energy. Daniel and Nathan inherited their tendency toward very good hospitality, too. They sleep at 3 or 4 AM (although that might be pushing it), so it's refreshing to see among our friends' parents! ;)

We're going to watch some U2 DVD pretty soon, and we're wondering about Bono's use of Spanish at the beginning of Vertigo: "Uno, dos, tres, catorce"... "1, 2, 3, 14" doesn't make much sense!

Save-On More Christmas spirit / (potential) gifts from Farrah, David, and Corey / plans with Eric

When I went grocery shopping today, I found that I'd forgotten my Save-On More card. There was this very giving lady behind me who offered to let me use her card, because then I'd at least save a bit of money that way. Believe me, I was very grateful! I also managed to find a cute teddy bear as a gift for Rosanna, plus a card. It was a great morning, as I found the Christmas spirit in that woman! :D

I got home and found Farrah's Christmas envelope in the mail.. it figures that I would get that after she left for her trip to Los Angeles and Hong Kong! There was this cute festive notepad paper with a kitten on it, a copy of the Youth Today newspaper, and a bookmark with Chinese characters. Very nice, flat, and fitting for the envelope! Thanks! ;)

David says that he's finally in the process of mailing me my package with CD player / note / photo / whatever else he put in there for me, and Corey says my stuff is finally in the mail. Corey apologized for not having a card to go along with it, since he's been running late / understandably delayed... I would NOT bug him about that, of course. It'll be interesting to see when I get all that, as I don't think it'll be in time for Christmas! (but we'll see)

Just made plans with Eric, since my brother is apparently out at UBC before he goes to Nathan's. He says he'll be by at around 6:05, and made jokes about making me go to some nearby place to wait for him. ("Man, you're out of the way for me to go to Nate's, you know!" Believe me, I shall make it worth his while!) It'll be good to have bonding time over ROTK:EE with my friends.. I do remember the time a couple years back when a bunch of people were watching some other extended edition at the church, and I couldn't make it because of a lack of rides and time. Not that I'm a geek or anything, but this will be very good... I get to see it before a certain person does, after all. ;)

Now Eric is accusing me over MSN of having an evil plot. My MSN name is now "Flami: ROTK:EE bonding time will rock" ---> he asked why it would rock. So I said: "trust me, it will." His response: "When people say TRUST ME... they usually have an evil plot... just as you have an evil plot now... I can hear you cackling away as we speak." HAHAHAHA! Whatever, dude! :D

Negativity, unexpected gifts, Awana presentation, bonding time

After the past 18 hours or so, I've decided I can SO do without my mom's bringing up all my past misdemeanors as if they were still very current and applicable. I know that I have to watch this tendency in myself, and it's a battle sometimes, but I'm trying not to be so negative and hurtful. There were times when I felt like telling her off, but knew that wouldn't help. This has been an exercise in keeping my mouth firmly shut. :P

I gave out gifts and cards to a few people today, and got an unexpected present myself from Rosanna at the toddler Sunday School that I help with. That was a very nice surprise.. I'll definitely wait till Saturday to find out what it is! I think I'll get her something in return.. she IS a Christmas baby, after all. (there are / were six church Christmas babies: Joe, Tony, Chung Yan, Juliana, Steven, and Rosanna)

The Awana kids were supposed to present a few songs today in service, but only eight showed up! All the leaders felt like a choir standing behind the kids, who weren't exactly very loud since only one or two really sang. Of course, we didn't want to overpower the kids either.. it was very interesting. ;)

Jon and I talked to a bunch of our friends today.. most of them asked him the same questions over and over, but that's par for the course. He's going to be busy hanging out with various friends, doing family things, and trying to recharge for January. Since my brother is a social butterfly anyhow, it's understandable that he and my sister will have the car / take the bus a lot. But I'd better have a ride for tomorrow... bonding time at Nathan's rocks! :D

Finally seeing Jon, bad Biblical jokes, extreme hyperness / Quizzes

Finally saw my brother at the airport.. that was good! :D

Went out with him, Nathan, and the two Erics later for bubble tea at the Rose Garden Café. We made bad Biblical jokes referencing Jesus turning water into wine at the Cana wedding feast, made up a fake "Cana Booze Night" at the Broadway Church, discussed plans / life and "Mystery Memphis," and were extremely hyper!

That's it from me, as I'm going to sleep... night, y'all!
