Princess Gwaelin at inns, coffins, PUFF PUFF, Wellgarth inn

The PUFF PUFF running gag in the DRAGON QUEST series

Critical hit point status, as shown in the desert outside the DQ1 town of Kol after defeating a skeleton:

You can take Princess Gwaelin to inns... this is what happens the next day: "Good morning! I hope you had a good night. Please take care."

In the DW2 town of Lianport, a cute girl invites you to have a "puff puff" session with her: "Don't you think I'm cute?" This onomatopoeia refers to a woman rubbing her breasts on a man's face.

"Ooh... I am delighted! Let's start!"

PUFF! PUFF! PUFF!

"Isn't that wonderful?"

"That's it. Thank you very much! Please come again!"

This is what happens if you say NO to her proposal: "Hmph! What?! Not another homosexual..." HAHAHA!

In the DQ1 town of Kol, there's a puff-puff girl in the open-air baths! "Hey, good-looking! How would you like a puff puff? It's only 20 gold."

If you say no, it's not as amusing as the one in Lianport, though. "Oh, that's too bad. If you need our services, let us know."

In the DRAGON QUEST games, your dead characters are represented by coffins, as in this screen shot outside the DRAGON QUEST 2 setting of Rhone!

When the series went to North America, Nintendo censored Japan (and took out an Enix gay bar in DW3)... so we have ghosts instead, as in this screen shot outside the DRAGON WARRIOR III town of Rimuldar.

This woman in the DW2 town of Wellgarth is a bit confused: "Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me where the bath is? What? This isn't a bath? This is a hotel?" HAHAHAHA!

You can take items from a coffin...

... and give them right back TO the coffin!

After you defeat Malroth in DRAGON WARRIOR II, the "60" glitch shows up again when the Rhone nun is talking to you! "Kendrick, 60, fe... Rolando, 60, fe... Linda, 60, f0..."

Child in Zahan: "Hey! You beat up Hargon! When I grow up, I want to marry you!"

Several places have VERY indented thanks, this one in Zahan: "Thanks to you, peace has returned. Thank you very much!"

Cannock jail guard: "Today, we're giving the prisoners a special surprise, and giving them a beer."

The thief in Cannock Castle's jail: "Oh, I've been dying for a beer! *gulp* "

Rolando's sister: "Hey, you're so carefree. I was worried that you got yourself into trouble."

Prince Rolando's retort: "Well, you're always so conceited. Heh heh heh..."

Don Mahone in Tuhn, referring to the Water Flying Clothes he made with the Magic Loom out of the Dew's Yarn in the Dragon Horn Tower: "Oh, it's you! What a tremendous achievement! I weaved my very soul into that robe. Ho ho ho..."

Gina, in Tuhn: "You people truly have courage. Just for once, I would like my husband to be like you."

We go see the great-grandson of the DRAGON WARRIOR 1 Dragonlord in Charlock Castle after restoring peace to the world: "Aside from other matters, we have become great friends! From now on, I'll call you Kendrick, and you can call me Ryu! Wa ha ha ha!"

The King of Tantagel Castle, telling the party what they already knew: "In reality, I'm the King of this castle! Heh heh heh!"

This guy in Tantagel Castle REALLY wants the kingship: "If the King is still missing, maybe I will be granted the job of ruling this country." Too bad that the King was hiding out in the weapon shop all this time!

Tantagel's King: "This country has been rescued by your lineage now two times... no, make that three times."

The guy in Leftwyne who told the party that they made him pee all over his foot: "I'm such a stupid person. I just drank too much. I had to come over HEAR and relieve myself." WORD FAIL!

A shop owner in Lianport: "Aahh! This beer is so smooth! A great beer is the best thing in life!"

Several people (this one in Hamlin) say this after peace has been restored to the world: "Hey! By chance, was it you heroes who defeated Hargon?! I didn't recognize you! I must be getting old!"

The lottery ticket people (this one in Hamlin) give you a modest gift of a Lottery Ticket after you restore peace to the world.

The Ozwarg monsters behind Hamlin's Golden Key door: "Ki! Ki!"

The ghostly King of Moonbrooke Castle, in flame form: "Well then, farewell. Oh, I can see... the heaven's gate."

The formerly lonely guy in Wellgarth: "Whee! This is great! I just figured out that everyone has been living down here! I'm no longer alone!"

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, zucchini gratin, and FREEDOM

When Eric picked me up, I asked if he were cooking on Sunday at Jeremy's. Unfortunately, he plans to stay out all day. Dude, you're an introvert and should need time to recharge! Oh well... if I sleep in (he thinks "on purpose"), at least I know how to get there! I didn't mind listening to sports radio, haha. We talked about that new Native guy, who apparently has folk music online. Since I've had certain bad experiences with new people in the past (Mr. Creep? Paul?), I'm very leery of them in general. Also talked about the hot weather, Gordon Ramsey's KITCHEN NIGHTMARES, video games, screenshots, skills, and more.

When we got to Pastor Bob's, Randal / Raymond / Connie / Vicky / Christon / Kevin / Jeremy were there already. We had zucchini gratin, chorizo sausage stew, quinoa salad, and other things for dinner. The film on Dietrich Bonhoeffer was interesting enough without the religious angle: war, Hitler, and getting engaged only to be executed! Caught up with a few people (I told Kevin that I hadn't had a chance to ask Steph and Lisa how Finland was), and tried some gluten-free bread (NOT a fan); I heard that Terry is now married (as of last week) to someone named Tiffany. Oh well, he unfriended me on Facebook first, haha. Also heard about Johnny attending Tenth, who ALSO unfriended me on Facebook! Discussed Stanford cooking for Phil's farewell, too... a 12-course meal, served restaurant-style! (with drunken chicken?!) On the way home, Eric bugged me with Christmas music, said I was drunk on a bit of wine (no), and told me to enjoy my freedom - oh, I am!

Sea Cave / Hargon Crackling Flames 60

I FINISHED DRAGON WARRIOR II AGAIN! Now, for the Zenithian Trilogy when I get back! I'm done with the Erdrick one, more or less. :D

Holy graphical glitches in the Sea Cave, Batman!

Here's a crackling flame in Hargon's Castle, with the Midenhall illusion dispersed thanks to the Charm of Rubiss! "...[crackle], 60..."

Hargon, upon defeat: "I, 60,... ... I've been defeated... Soon you will meet your end, just as I have..."

Italian Tomato, outdoor mats, Douglas Park, and GOOD FOOD

I was going to visit Grandma briefly before going to meet Eric at Langara Station, but Jon said to bring a mat to sit on. Since I didn't have one, I went to the dollar store / Sears / London Drugs to see if they had anything like that. London Drugs DID, but it was more like a balcony mat - whatever, I wasn't picky at that point since I was running out of time! We went to Douglas Park to meet Jon, Harmony, and Ayler. This was after we went to Dragon Ball to pick up bubble tea. Jon paid Eric back for his order of something fruity (mango) - half sugar - coconut jelly for Harmony, and something adventurous (red bean and longan) - half sugar - pearls for himself. I didn't have cash, so Eric paid... he also got taro, and I got a pudding. Mr. Dragon Ball was still there!

Jon, Harmony, Eric, and I talked about baby Ayler, parenthood, the bright yellow color of Eric's shirt, my Canucks shirt, Grandma and her eye not being quite open, Steph, Lisa, the puppy, life updates, construction, Nathan, Desmond, and more. When Eric held the baby, Ayler started crying! Edwin and Jane showed up with baby Rebecca, and both babies started fussing and crying when they looked at each other! Talked about Brian and Amy's wedding next week, Amy finding the ring before the proposal, Norman, Sean, children's concerts (one was in the background!), and more. Eric and I left earlier than they did because of the sun and a bit of hunger. We talked about Kingspark Seafood House, but I wanted to see if we could find that Italian Tomato place which Eliza recommended to me months ago. As it turned out, we did - but not after some creative driving and turns of phrase! No, I don't mind if he swears!

Discussed Grandma, pasta, his cousins not being babies anymore, pizza, mushrooms, chicken, spicy Italian sausage, shrimp, life, chilling, Price Smart, sports, the Blue Jays, BEYOND BELIEF, curses, paying me back if I paid by debit, his friends getting married and having kids, the lockout possibility, and more. Of course I didn't mind if he stopped by Price Smart briefly to see if he could find stuff for his grandma! He didn't, but he still opted to chill for a bit back at my place. Conversed about new books, Uganda and Gay Pride, CRACKED articles, cash, Halloween and Christmas stuff in stores already, the guestbook, and more. When he left about an hour later at 10:30, Yvonne had emailed me and Jon some contact info for her and her siblings. I finally managed to reply to Steve's email, too... it's been almost three weeks, man! Things keep on happening around here!

Beran Monolith, 60, Prince Linda, Douglas Park plans

Jon let me know that he and Harmony would be at Douglas Park around 5:30 with baby Ayler, which still works if Eric and I are meeting at Langara Station about fifteen minutes later! He wanted to see if we were still picking up Dragon Ball bubble tea, and he'd pay us back for something fruity - half sugar - coconut jelly for Harmony, and something adventurous - half sugar - pearls for himself. INTERESTING!

This guy in the DRAGON WARRIOR II Beran Monolith is talking about the Golden Key, but why is there an extra "60" appended on to the end of his question?! "Where could it be?, 60..."

This wizard is talking about the Moon Fragment inside the treasure chest: "This is the Tower of the Moon. Now it is best to open that treasure box. That is decided, 60..."

If you sleep at the Inn at Beran (the first time), the Prince will lay down and not get up. Use a Leaf of the World Tree on him to restore his failing body, and he'll rejoin the party. The King's messenger at the inn has something to say to you: "Oh, is that you, KendROLANDick? I've been holding a message from the King."

"What has befallen Prince Linda? Perhaps I should inform the King..." The Prince's name is Rolando, and the Princess is named Linda! HAHAHA!

It then goes into a loop, so thank goodness I saved after the Moon Tower events!

MOHAWK, hot babes, social media, and Ayler tomorrow!

Called Chrystal at work before I lost track of time this afternoon; we're getting together next Wednesday on the 22nd. Should be interesting! When I got Chinese Eric on the phone tonight, I wished him a happy birthday before we talked about tomorrow / helping his dad / Nathan still in London / Ciel / learning about things online / anonymity. It's totally understandable that he wants to rest before hanging out and meeting baby Ayler, and that he doesn't really want to go to Richmond and back out again - at least I won't get lost going to Langara Station, as opposed to the park! We discussed social media; WHY would you update your Facebook status while robbing a bank and being in a standoff with the police?! Then we talked about our shared enjoyment of TLC's "reality shows" on hoarders and extreme couponing before ending the call. Confirmed stuff with Jon after that, so everything's a go! I misread "NASA worker awakens Obama's mohawk dreams" as "NASA worker reveals Obama's network address" - WTF is wrong with me?! o_O

What the heck is up with this DRAGON WARRIOR II glitch? I first noticed it when selling Water Flying Cloths at Midenhall Castle - must be the codes! Luckily, it went away when I restarted the emulator!

This guy in Lianport is looking for a hot woman, and thinks that the Princess of Moonbrooke (Linda) is the perfect babe!

Yukinov, swamps, flowerbeds, wrinkles, Garin's ghost

I finished DRAGON WARRIOR 1 again! :D

Here's a poisonous swamp:

If you cast Repel, there will be no trace of weaker monsters for a short while!

Remember the Cantlin weapon shop owner in DRAGON WARRIOR III who chose the name Yukinov for his unborn child, and said the name would be passed on through generations? It has been, as this guy in Cantlin proves! The treasure he's talking about is the Armor of Erdrick, guarded by an Axe Knight in the destroyed town of Hauksness.

The timeline from DRAGON WARRIOR III to DRAGON WARRIOR I covers 15 kings named Lorik, and spans a lot of generations! So it's reasonable that this Cantlin guy had a grandfather named Yukinoff in Hauksness when the monsters destroyed it!

The Dragonlord on his throne in Charlock Castle:

That poisonous swamp (and all others) has been transformed into a flowerbed with the coming of peace to the world of Alefgard!

Here is Garin's ghost in Hauksness after peace returns:

After you defeat the Dragonlord, this old man in Brecconary Town has this to say: "Well, I'm overjoyed! My wrinkled face will become completely wrinkled now." WHAT?! Hahaha!
