Uniform tails / My True Love's Sign

Sam picked me up late because he was at his first day of work, so we talked about that for a while. Good thing that most people were understanding, although he didn't get anybody that took it out on him if they were rushed or anything either. We were stuck in a left-turn lane for ten minutes because of construction, and we were stuck in traffic a little later on because everyone wanted to go for a drive in the nice sunny weather. At least we made it to Awana, where I explained the current scoring system to Melia... she thinks we should multiply by a certain factor and not divide, so we'll try that next week. (that's how I was taught, but changes would be good) Later on, Joey and Mike made their uniforms into tails by tucking them into their pants, and tried smacking themselves with them... no luck, even with a running start and jump. (none of the kids were around, thank goodness!) Then again, Melia was trying to get Jeff to punch Joey, who told me that my sister had hip-checked him again. Jeff didn't take the opportunity, even though he was wearing padding underneath his shirt! Good times, indeed. :D

Bowling and the Old Spaghetti Factory

Went bowling at the Zone, even though I suck at it! Eddie and Eunice showed up, much to everyone's surprise! They've been busy, and I told Eddie that I did have a birthday card for him... at home! Poor Eunice had a very weird day: the hairdresser putting her down for last week instead of today, Taco Bell closed for maintenance, the movie they wanted to see being full, etc. Maybe tomorrow won't be so bad... she asked me how Nathan was, and where he was: knowing that guy, he can get pretty busy!

She also said her niece Avery is two years old now and is growing up very fast, both physically and mentally! I remember that kid: she definitely liked both me and my brother when we had dinner with their family that time! Eunice has eaten WAY too many SLB with her parents, so she won't be up for it for at least another year! (I know the feeling of eating too much for a meal, believe me!) Maybe all-you-can-eat sushi or something... ;)

I got frustrated easily and pretty much refused to bowl after half a game, even though Billy and Karen encouraged me / cheered me on... I just could not do it, so Eddie bowled for me instead. (at least I tried, heh) WAY too many gutterballs... Stella, Eunice, and I agreed that we could use those gutter rails that the bowling alley puts up for little kids so that it's impossible to get one! Stella brought baby Benjamin, who slept through pretty much everything: the talking, the noise, the music... it's all white noise, and we could see where the expression "sleep like a baby" comes from! (according to Stella, he slept too much during the day already, so it'll be a rough night!)

I enjoyed the company at bowling: Eric was wearing the Roots sweatshirt that the Richmond Crew got him for his birthday a few years ago. It was good times when we gave it to him, especially because he liked pretending that Roots was a swear word! (his alter ego is / was an Australian named Stanley who thought Roots sounded obscene, so it provided laughs whenever we drove by the big Roots warehouse!) He asked me if I'd had any turkeys (strikes) yet... I didn't think so, no. I talked to Erin about work, and Ivan asked about me... I'm surprised, haha. It was way cool when the alley turned on COSMIC BOWLING: Benjamin's sleeper and Erin's jacket were especially good showcases of that effect, being pretty much all white!

Afterwards, a few people went to watch some movie: Eric asked if I wanted to go, but I elected to go eat at the Old Spaghetti Factory with everyone else instead since I was kinda hungry. (besides, I didn't know what the movie was about) Karen tried getting the guys to say that they loved each other: that was definitely a no-go! (Terry wouldn't say that to Chung, Rich wouldn't say that to Dylan, etc.) Connie said that at least for once something was in Richmond: this was very true! (there was the time after Fellowship that Jon didn't want to eat sushi with everyone since he wasn't hungry, but we went since it was in Richmond and we wanted to see everyone: he ended up eating the equivalent of a whole meal anyhow!)

We talked about whether the girls expressed love verbally to our female relatives and friends: it depends on age and comfort level. Dylan likes his own personal bubble, so the discussion turned to that. There's no way that you'd see two guys holding hands and walking down the street, or else some would be all squicked out by it! Eric called Chung's cell to see if I had a ride home: Karen kindly agreed to drive me home, so he wouldn't have to worry! (he's a good guy, that one) You see two girls holding hands and kissing on the cheek more often than you'd see the guy equivalent (even if they aren't Chinese!), though Lesley had culture shock when she went to Montreal and was kissed and hugged a lot by women! Good times, heh... when I mentioned that Jon had told me to see SYRIANA with him in December, Dylan's reaction was: "Wow, he's turning into a left-winger Marxist type! Living in Toronto will do that to you!" (maybe...)

Connie, Chung, Randal, Dylan, and I were way less animated than the people on the other side of the table because we were tired. Maybe if we were ten years younger, we'd be up for seeing the movie too... but we go to bed way late as it is sometimes! Jenny called Connie to see what she was doing: she'd been sleeping from this morning till 10 PM, but we'd do that too if we had to work 24 hours straight (in the medical field) and also weren't feeling well! Rich says he goes to bed at 1, and wakes up at 6:30 or so... apparently, he's been doing this for years. We wouldn't be able to do that: I know I need a lot more sleep than that! Karen asked us how often we shower during the day: once a day, at most... maybe twice if it's the hot summer or we're in China / Hong Kong during humid summertimes! She says she showers three times a day: before going out, after working out, and before bed. (she used to shower four times a day) Waste of water, as Chung was saying... ah well.

Tonight was all right, on the whole: Karen and I discussed various Fellowship food ideas and such on the way home, heh. I wish I could cook and send her online recipes, kinda. At least I got a ride from Sam five minutes before I left tonight, so I don't have to worry about calling him whenever I got home! (which turned out to be about midnight, actually)

5000 Question survey community, hockey shootout wins, ferry sinkings, blogquizzes

I spent much of my day creating a GJ community devoted to the 5000-Question Survey, which meant that I did a LOT of posting! Layouts, blank templates, a welcome post, all my answers to the questions in separate posts: the grand total was 110 posts overall... and it took over five hours to do. *thunk* Good thing I did that tonight, though... tomorrow, I may be bowling. We'll see, haha. (following Jamie's lead, I am...)

The Canucks won 4-3 against the Oilers tonight in a shootout, and the two teams get to play again on Saturday... whee. :P

I've been reading the newspaper articles about the ferry sinking of the Queen of the North: reminds me of the Titanic. I'd provide links, but I think those will expire in a while! Just Google the relevant terms. ;)

Julie (julie709): "Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!" (the card has Genesis 21:6 on it)

Jasmine (surrey_sucks): "Surprise! Hope you like the stickers! It's a little early for a Christmas card, but hey, I had these from last year! (these gel pens suck!)"

Amy S. (amy_star_): "I hope your holidays are great! Have a very Merry Christmas and may your New Year bring you even better things!"

card from Kim (kimmers_81)

Sara W. (sparkle_bint): "Hi Leslie, hope you like these little gifts. The two postcards show where I live. :) It's one of the oldest towns in England! You'd like the sheep rubber / eraser... I think it represents the Derbyshire Dales... moorland near where I live. :) I thought it was cute! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! :) Lots of love, Sara."

Kelli (neonrose5): "Hi Leslie. My first non-SK Canadian.. yay! (the others are all in Saskatoon - go figure, eh?) Anyway... best wishes to you and yours this holiday season. Your fellow Canuck, Kelli."

Melissa (misssims82): "Leslie, I got your card and postcard yesterday... it's GORGEOUS! Merry Christmas to you and yours!"

Soleta: "Leslie, have a wonderful holiday and an even better New Year!! I hope all of your holiday wishes come true. :)"

card from Cecelia (cecelia_)

Brynn (irishvampire13): "Hi! Sorry it took so long to get back to you - it was hard to find a good postcard! Hehe! Happy Holidays!"

Amber (randomlancila): "Leslie! Ah, another year at holiday_wishes! Isn't it great? I'm sure I'll keep bumping into you all over LJ in 2006 just like I did this year! Hope you have a fantastic holiday season. Here's to getting everything you wish for! Love and gingerbread men, Amber."

card from Stephanie (pandorabox82)

Shannon S. (tearfulgoodbyes): "Leslie: You've been a great journal friend, and I've truly enjoyed getting to know you through your journal! I hope you and everyone you love have a very Merry Christmas, and a safe and happy New Year! Your friend, Shannon."

April (angeldrummer7): "Merry Christmas."

Katya (katzk): "Happy New Year and a Merry Christmas too. Have a brilliant year of 2006!"

Courtney (bjornskjold): "Leslie, have a great holiday and lots of fun! It's been cool getting to know you!"

card from Candy

Vania: "Hey Les! Haven't seen much of you this year, but you're definitely a steady part of church life... I love that! You're like family. Distant, but still family, haha. Anyway, I hope you have a GREAT Christmas! I'm so glad there's no snow, but that's just me. :) God bless!"

Ana (glamourcorpse): "Peace, Love, and Joy to you and yours!"

photo of guinea pigs (Adrian, Wedge, Mona, and Lisa) from Kira (kazulanth)

Christine (occipitaldruid): "Leslie - have a wonderful holiday! Best wishes for the coming year to you!" (same card as last year, heh)

Maryann: "Hi Leslie. Hope you have a warm and blessed Christmas."

Amy Y. (exclamation_pnt): "I forget where I got this bumper sticker, but it's a tad useless to me because I don't have a car, and I'm not religious. Hope you can put it to some good use! Like as a substitute for duct tape when we have to bind Chris up and torture him! :) Whee! Yo dawg. Ha. Notice anything about this card? I can't write today... ARGH! A snowman for a snowman makes the whole world... snowy? Yeah. Okay. That made no sense. Happy chilly holidays! Amy."

Sheryl (sheryll): "Hi Leslie, sorry to be so late returning a card to you! I loved your postcard... Vancouver is one Canadian city I've never visited. Here's a couple of my favorite spots in San Antonio! Have a marvelous holiday! Sheryl."

Stasia (stasia): "No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or if thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. - John Donne. Happy Happy Holidays!"

card from Pat Bisceglia (intended for previous tenant, but I kept it since it looks so nice, heh)

Caitlyn (anas_dance): "Happy Holidays, Leslie. :)"

Brian, Julie, and Denise: "Have a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!"

Auntie Esther (Chris T.'s mom): "Dear Leslie, Have a blessed Christmas! Auntie Esther." (the card has Psalm 72:19 on it)

Flora and Clara: "Dear Leslie, Merry Christmas! Thank you for all your love, care, and support to Clara and our family over the past year!"

Charlotte (charshark): "Merry Christmas! I hope you have a good Christmas! :) I included some postcards, and I hope you enjoy them a lot. Have a lovely New Year!" (the card has Matthew 5:8 on it)

Rachel B. (cynicalsiren): "It's been fun getting to know you this year, and I wish you a very happy New Year!"

Nyssa (giggles_19): "Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you and yours."

Darren (dfrancis): "Leslie! Wow, so how long have we known each other? A long long long time, and perhaps for a long long long long time more. And I hope we do. Luv, Darren."

John (snooooopy): "Hey Leslie, I will be pulling for the Vancouver Canucks in your honor. John."

Carmina (on_the_ground): "Hey Leslie! I'm very glad to wish you and yours a great time this holiday, with all the people that you care about. I hope it will be a really special time. My best wishes, and take care! Merry Christmas! Hope you'll like the stickers! I hope this arrives this time! Hope you like the random things..."

Daphne (sinjah): "Dear Leslie, MERRY CHRISTMAS! I found your address from holiday_wishes on LJ. I'm sinjah there... you might remember me, the gal from Greece! Sooo... I'm sending you, besides this card (notice the cool brown recycled paper!), a postcard from Athens. You can see the Parthenon, and a nice small part of the city. It looks better at night, though. This photo is taken from Lycabetus, a hill, where I sit sometimes alone to think. The view is better when you're actually sitting there, but the colors in this postcard are amazing I'm also sending you some great Greek recipes (if I do say so myself). You asked for something that represents my country, so here is it! It's not anything really big, but I love these foods! Make sure you make the Melomakarona.. they are traditional Christmas sweets, and I assure you they are delicious! Finally, you asked for something random and soups or beauty items, so here they are! Happy holidays, and keep spreading the joy, haha! Love, Daphne."

Farrah (lilaznffairy421): "Hi! :) This is supposed to smell like jasmine. I kept losing fragments of what I was going to send you, so I guess I'll have to do this in fragments. :| I'm so disgustingly unorganized... or rather, people keep moving the stuff in my room. :| Sigh... Happy holidays! :)"

Sarah G. (Tonks): "Sorry for the lateness of this card. I wish you the best of everything: health, wealth, love, and everything your heart desires. Take care of yourself, and see you on OP. Love, Sarah."

Finished blank templates of the 5172-Question Survey! / Post-midnight dinners / Death / Kyle

I've just spent a good chunk of the last two days making a blank template of that 5172-question survey in backdated posts... it's on February 21, if any of you wish to do it. While I was at it, I corrected a bunch of typos and answered questions I somehow never completed originally. What can I say, I'm OCDL like that... now I have a completed version, and a blank version! That took a LOT of time, but it was worth it... I love my journal upkeep. :D

I finally had dinner at midnight: steak and potato soup with mushrooms. Yeah, I kinda forget about eating when immersed in a project. Two consecutive days of post-midnight dinners for me, haha. Corey's reaction: "So do you just not eat during the day, or is this dinner #2?" Hahaha... I forget sometimes, but I did have snacks so it wasn't TOO bad! ;)

Now, to get through my 78+ comments before I go to bed, even though I should sleep earlier... it'll be easier since Trillian is turned off. ;)

Kyle left me a comment earlier... yay, Kyle! Of course I'll message him... he's a good kid. :D

Steve also left me a couple of comments... yay, Steve! He's a good guy, too. :D

Coinage

I'm going to make an OCDL list of all the special coins and such that I have. (roughly defined as 1976 for my birth year / pre-1970 / "special" millennium or Olympics coins, foreign coinage, etc.) I generally set myself a limit of 10 per coin, unless it's the US float.

Edit on Aug. 5, 2008: List no longer accurate, thanks to Steve the kleptomaniac! (and why Korey didn't tell me about that tendency before, I don't know - time to dump him!)

The dollar percentage is obtained by dividing the monetary value of a certain category of coins / bills by the total face value of the lot.

Too early for Christmas songs in my head! / Kenneth's Color Survey, and Jamie's Alphabet Survey

I woke up today and found that Jingle Bell Rock was in my head... it be way too early for this shizzle, yo! *grumble* Luckily, Children of Bodom / Cradle of Filth cured it... yay! :D

Surveys are always a good way to waste time, haha...

Color Survey from Kenneth (kos_momos / seraficradiance)

RED

1. Are you currently mad at someone? No.

2. Which of your friends has the worst temper? Joe Wu!

3. Have you ever thrown something at anyone? A ball, bones, simple things like that.

4. Does your face turn red when you're angry? No.

5. When you're mad, do you prefer to stare angrily or yell / scream? Either, depending on the situation and who I'm mad at. I'd probably stare angrily, though.

ORANGE

1. Has anyone ever thrown you a surprise party? Yeah, but it didn't work for my sister since Cindy Yang spilled the beans a week before said event.

2. Are you easily excited? Sometimes, if it's something to get all hyper about.

3. What event is coming up that you're most excited about? Um... Jon's graduation? Haha, I won't even be there. Whee.

4. Which of your friends is most excitable? Jackie, for sure. The girl is HYPER! :D

5. If you won a million dollars, what would be your first thought? PARTY! (more seriously) Save a lot of it in the bank, not have to worry about money as much, and keep the money coming by doing something with it... business / renting out places?

6. If you could have anything right now, what would it be? Someone special in my life, meaningful discussions, or the million dollars from the last question!

YELLOW

1. Name? Leslie.

2. Where were you born? Vancouver General Hospital.

3. What's your main goal in life? To live it and help people along the way. Oh, and to promote a greater awareness of GOOD spelling / grammar.

4. Do you want to have children? Maybe two... but really, having inanimate objects around works for me. They won't challenge me or anything. :P

5. How do you want to die? Barring Dawn's idea of croaking when you're surrounded by good friends and family and biting into a good steak, I'd like to die in my sleep.

GREEN

1. Sex before marriage? Probably not for me.

2. Gay Marriage? Absolutely not.

3. Lowering the drinking age? No, I think 18 is high enough.

4. Capital Punishment? I don't know that it's a great deterrent these days... but in certain cases, yes.

5. Abortion? It's the woman's right to choose, as it is her body. As long as you're not someone who uses abortions as a form of birth control, then whatever you do is none of my business!

6. Recycling? 'Tis a good practice.

BLUE

1. What was your latest dream? Something about my sister yelling at my mom, who then sent her to her room... then I told my brother about it, and the three of us ran to a big giant party with all our friends. Weird stuff.

2. Which of your friends do you dream about the most? The two Erics, Citrus, Danielle...

3. Have any of your dreams come true? My grandma's not pregnant by a 14-year-old kid, Erin's mom didn't commit suicide at a crowded beach, I didn't find a cute sweet guy at Regent (or anywhere else), Dave and I haven't come across any bomb explosions at the mall, Ty and Jeremy weren't fired because of a yellow and white cake containing alcohol, my friends and I haven't seen any graphic freaks at UBC.... so no.

4. Do you usually remember your dreams? Yeah, and sometimes I even write them down!

5. What was the weirdest dream you've ever had? The one where a group of friends and I were congregating at a house and suddenly these alien freaks came in to kidnap us, but we got away by jetting to Granville Island and losing ourselves in the middle of the crowd of weirdos there.

PURPLE

1. Straight, Gay, Bi? Straight all the way, baby.

2. Do you have a boyfriend / girlfriend? No.

3. Do you have a crush? No.

4. Who is the best "hugger" that you know? Jackie. But I'm not really a huggy-type of person.

5. Do you believe in Love at first sight? No, that can be so misleading and stupid.

6. Have you ever been in love? Twice or so?

A. One. ONE!! And do you know WHY it only takes ONE? Because no one else in this house knows HOW to change a light bulb. They don't even know the bulb is BURNED OUT. They would sit in this house in the dark for THREE DAYS before they figured it OUT. And once they figured it out they wouldn't be able to find the light bulbs despite the fact that they've been in the SAME CUPBOARD for the past SEVENTEEN YEARS.

But if they did, by some miracle, actually find the light bulbs, TWO DAYS LATER the chair that they dragged from two rooms over to stand on to change the STUPID light bulb would STILL BE IN THE SAME SPOT!! AND UNDERNEATH IT WOULD BE THE CRUMPLED WRAPPER THE STUPID @*!#$% LIGHT BULBS CAME IN! WHY?! BECAUSE NO ONE IN THIS HOUSE EVER CARRIES OUT THE GARBAGE!!

IT'S A WONDER WE HAVEN'T ALL SUFFOCATED FROM THE PILES OF GARBAGE THAT ARE 12 FEET DEEP THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE HOUSE. THE HOUSE!! IT WOULD TAKE AN ARMY TO CLEAN THIS... I'm sorry... what did you ask me?

Laundry, money, and plenty of quizzage

Did some laundry today, so at least I have clean shirts and stuff. I still have to buy some ROIMU stuff, so maybe when I get more money! Actually, I'll possibly have to either ask Eric to cover for me on Friday with bowling and the Old Spaghetti Factory... or just change my mind and back out completely, heh. We'll see... money issues are so not the best to deal with.

The Canucks lost 7-3 to Detroit yesterday.
