I was waiting for a phone call from Stephen, and had the phone ring at 7:35. There was no answer when I picked up the phone, though. So then I decided to call him. I was surprised to hear him answer the phone: he said stuff about cell phone company buyouts and such. He also said that he'd missed talking to me, and that it was good to hear my voice. I also kinda missed talking to him and hearing his voice, but I just wish we wouldn't get disconnected all the time! (but it's probably a good thing we DID get disconnected, as the phone card I used only had 24 minutes left on it!) At least I do know it's not my end, but his! :P

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (United Press International via COMTEX) -- The first baby of 2005born in Santa Clara, Calif., just missed being tax-deductible, but his twin brother didn't.

Maria Martinez of San Jose gave birth to a baby boy four minutes before midnight on New Year's Eve and another precisely at midnight on New Year's Day, The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Sunday.

"I hope it's not going to be too confusing," said Martinez, 32, holding her sons in her arms at the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center. Isaac, the first baby of 2005, weighed 4 pounds, 4 ounces while Elijah, the last baby of last year, tipped the scales at a heftier 4 pounds, 14 ounces.

The boys were born by Caesarean section three weeks early.

"The doctors were looking at the clock," Martinez said. "After the first one was born, one of the doctors said: 'It looks like the next one is coming next year.' "

The new mom says she doesn't care that Isaac is not deductible on her 2004 tax return.

"It doesn't matter," she said. "I don't know how that works. The lady who does my taxes will let me know. I'm not thinking about that."

Post office blues, puppy / mystic gem quizzage

Went to the mall today to get stuff for various people, and then mailed most of it out. End result was that I spent too much money on postage and such, but at least I got most of it done in one go. Also had some hot lasagna at Boston Pizza.. that was very good. Still haven't picked up my parcel yet (Corey hopes it's his), but maybe I can get Mike to drive me to the shopping centre in which that particular post office is located. Since it's so annoying to do that because it's out of my way, I got the post office clerk to give me Canada Post's number. I'll call tomorrow, and hopefully I can have the people redirect any future missed packages to the other post office instead! (be so much easier that way)

Starting my day

Just got up at 2:45, only to find yet another "package delivery notification" card in the mailslot. They prepared it on the morning of NYE, which means they tried to deliver it the day before. Guess where I was then? Not here as I should have been, but at my parents' place... argh! So now I have to go out of my way again to pick a package up! Oh well, I have to buy assorted things for other people and myself: CD cases, notebooks, maybe a BP Pasta Tuesday / bubble tea, etc. It's 3° C right now, but I should still watch out for slippery sidewalks... ah, the perils of winter in general! I should go out before it starts snowing in a few days, anyhow. I'll be back here later on, I'm quite sure.

Sunfire trouble, the brewery, and Dragon Ball bubble tea

My day, in point form:

* Went to church and talked to everyone about the subzero temperatures.
* Donated to the tsunami special offering.
* Helped with the toddler Sunday School, and had one kid say that I was either 3 years old and 10 pounds, or 10 years old. (Frances was 6, and his mom was 8)
* Went for lunch with family friends, and then bought Sarah's Matthew Good CD.
* Napped at the townhouse for a while, as my parents helped Jon pack.
* Went out with Jon and the two Erics for a farewell dinner at the brewery, picking up Anthony on the way.
* Experienced car trouble with the Sunfire on the way to dinner... it stalled.
* The guys were able to push the car a little to get it going again, but it re-stalled.
* Fortunately, we were near a gas station... the guys pushed it there, then various phone calls were made.
* Jon got Nathan to order for us, and Eric got his parents to come down in the Parisienne.
* After some fluid additive treatment and such, we were good to go... switched cars, of course.
* Finally had some dinner, and had feeling come back into our bodies.
* Had bubble tea at Dragon Ball (discussing weird foods), then drove everyone home.


A very long and interesting day.. I'll be glad when I'm also home tomorrow, even though the garbage STILL hasn't been picked up after a week!)

I was drunk, but now I'm sober... / Quizzes

This is what my evening consisted of:

* Finding out MSN works properly at home now.. yay!
* Having a hilarious MSN conversation with my siblings about showering.
* Going to my parents' while dinner was already in progress.
* Finally eating my mom's version of Chinese beef stroganoff. (I was under the impression that it had noodles in it, but she thinks you can serve it over rice... me wants the real deal now, haha!)
* My sister giving me her peach wine cooler since she didn't want to be drunk on the plane.
* Talking to Jon, Steph, Dave, Erin, and Cindy about stuff.
* Getting drunk faster than usual on about a cup of the wine cooler. (my "red-face Asian gene" was working overtime, since I usually don't show at all)
* My sister and Erin taking digicam pictures of my really red face. (I'm sure those will end up being online somewhere...)
* Trying to keep up with conversation till I couldn't do it anymore.
* Sleeping / resting on my parents' bed. (being horizontal helps)
* My brother giving me a plastic bag in case I needed to puke. (no, unless you count the little bit in my mouth)
* Being steadily annoyed by certain people who would turn on the light in said room.
* My sister squishing me for "one last hug" since I couldn't go to the airport to see her off.
* Feeling more like myself at around 11 PM.
* My mom thinking I don't know about not mixing alcohol and aspirin together.
* My mom giving me a Bathroom Reader page-a-day calendar for New Year's, then trying to guilt-trip me about the stuff she and my dad gave me this year for the holidays.
* Having some Neo-Citran while catching up online... hopefully, the stuff isn't TOO expired already!
* My dad telling me that I shouldn't use MSN on his computer, or at least not have it sign in automatically since he can't get rid of the pop-up notification.
