Sausage fest on Sunday, oh my!

On the way to Fellowship, Eric continued with his current joke, and insisted that he was being silly when he told someone else about it. For goodness sakes... we also discussed poisoned cake, hehe. Went to Safeway to purchase refreshments: green grapes, multigrain chips, Coke, cheese, and crackers did it for us just under budget! I said that I was crazy, which I'm sure he didn't disagree with, haha. He insisted that he didn't need dinner, so I went to Pho for some quail egg and chicken noodles. Went back and talked to Jeremy, Johnny, Danielle, Citrus, Vanessa, and others for a bit. YAY, WE'RE FINALLY IN THE SAME FELLOWSHIP! Had random questions to answer in our small groups - Jeremy's not in mine anymore, alas! Discovered how Dylan had met Deb, for one thing. Raymond commented in an aside that we should have chosen Wordscraper as one of our games instead of the ones Cindy and Dianne had planned - HAHAHA, for sure! Certainly it wouldn't have given me so much grief! (ranted about that on the way home...)

Martin said he couldn't make it to the Wednesday dinner, Dylan said that he needs a new phone, and Sheena asked me and Jeremy if we were going to the Walkathon tomorrow: we both hadn't planned on it! He could bike there and back, which would be more physical activity than the actual walk! Or he could bike to Grouse, do the Grind, and come back on the bike - he did this once, and then decided NEVER AGAIN! (even if he had a pass which he could use) Talked about bike lanes, hitting parked cars, school, art, ginger roots, natural light, Jesse and money, hot pot, Elaine's wedding, grocery shopping at Costco, "healing rooms," lifting things, Tony, Sonny, Nathan, genes, chromosomes, ANIMAL FARM, "sister confusion," having four heads of lettuce to celebrate Tony's birthday, birthdays in general, Facebook, the "sausage fest" which Vivian S. can't make it to, double entendres, and more.

Hey, Brandi added me on Facebook - yay for Band memories at McNair! I played ZEE off Josephine's ZEE: how quirky! I have no idea why I don't get these Evite responses in my email like I'm SUPPOSED to... *grumble* I'm half-tempted to make the party a Facebook event! In fact, I think I will! But Jeremy can always come by default - he's practically the only one allowed to do that because he's JEREMY. ;) [and because he's special, and usually makes me smile!] I also know David is coming because he said so the other day - WHEE! :D The combination of both thoughts makes me smile... and my sister sent me a birthday card in the mail, too! (Candy says she sent me a package as well - she wants it to be on time, but doesn't know if it will be...)

Fo sho! Ready to get my freak on. (3)
* Jon Ng (09/11)
Yikes, "Get my freak on" is something I experience enough already when Leslie's had 4 sips of any alcoholic drink. :) Aside from prayer meeting, I'll be sure to make it at some point. :)
* viviansalomon (09/10)
I'm ALWAYS "ready to get my freak on"! ;) haha. Sounds like fun! :)

Mayhaps. Gotta get backatcha. U feel me? (2)

* jesse.y.chan (09/12)
may show up at 9:00ish, how's that work out for ya? MARTIN JANG--I THINK I OWE YOU FIVE BUCKS...
* Dianne Fang (09/12)
I'm not sure. School sucks all life out of me, and with the mound of reading I have, coupled with the fact that I have no car makes me think I may not be able to come and celebrate with you......

Gotta punk out, yo. Don't hate! (5)

* Raymond Cheung (09/12)
The mound of new projects at work means longer work days. - won't be able to come.
* Chalaine Soon (09/11)
Sorry Leslie, but I have class at that time. =******(
* Cindy F (09/10)
I'm sorry, Leslie!! September is a really busy time in the classroom - I need to prep things and make sure I rest early to catch the 7 AM Skytrain. We'll have to celebrate another time!!
* citrus_w (09/10)
* Karen Choo (09/10)
If only your party was after Sept. 18th! Leslie, I wish I could make it to wish you a happy birthday and to watch you blush in front of your birthday cake. I won't be in town on that day. Will take you out another time. Love, Karen

Meh... JEFF BECK!

Bingo of the night so far:

HELICONS (69 points) - against Kathy T.

Meeting Steve was all right, but I wasn't feeling like being around people much even if I had noodles and bubble tea. Not sure why, but I don't like when people ask me questions! Weird, but that's just me! Talked about autism, church, Chinese things being foreign to him, and decisions. Didn't really say much, but I'm usually like that when meeting people for the first time! Thank goodness I decided NOT to go to the movies! Better get out of this funk by tomorrow, although I can always harass people about my birthday then! ;)

Hey, Natasha M. added me to Facebook - I remember her from Law 12, all right! Currently playing Wordscraper against someone named JEFF BECK, which is sweet! He was gracious about my "same name" comment, and even gave me a link to the musician and news, heh.

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Those are some QUIRKY hot dog toppings!

I should NOT be up this early. Yup, I blame the sun! Couldn't be anything else! It's the seventh anniversary of 9/11, too... I got chills hearing the remembrances on the radio just now. What a day, when the world changed forever! (and Michael M. just gave me a 9/11-related SuperPoke... NICE!) Martin T. just added me to Facebook - sweet, even though I hardly know him! [Edit at 4 PM: The computer JUST restarted for the first time since I took Corey's fan suggestion, about a week ago!]

Bingo of the day so far:

COOKED (208 points) - against Dennis M. [two 4W]
PIPES (576 points) - against Rhonda P. [three 4W]

Jon sent us a "Make your own hot dog" Sunday Dinner email: the list of toppings looks interesting! Says we can belatedly celebrate our buddy Eric's birthday, and look forward to mine on Wednesday - not sure if that'll work as incentive, but we'll see. I still remember two years ago: Pho Thai Son and Granville Island (THE UNBREAKABLE POPSICLE STICK GANG) with Jeremy, Jon, Peter, Holly, and her friends Justin / Leanne was fun times!

So what do sausages have to do with Sunday dinners? Well, this latest bit of inspiration came from a visit some of us had at the night market a few weeks back. In between the hip-hop dancing, bad singing, questionable wares for sale, and haggling over skewers... we saw some Japadogs and hit upon the idea of cooking up some quality sausages and fixing them up with our own preferred choice of condiments. We'll be getting the weiners from Granville Island -- Nate and I hit up Oyama Meats a few months ago and got some amazing sausages, so we'll be replicating the experience again.

What sorts of toppings are we going to provide? Well, off the top of my head I can think of:

sauerkraut
Japanese mayonnaise
benito flakes
seaweed
sriracha
BBQ sauce
hoisin sauce
miso
fried onions
eggs
fried mushrooms
tomatoes
beef (philly cheesesteak style)
cheese
ketchup
roasted garlic
mustard

FLATLINED left a birthday comment on my Myspace profile - NICE! :D

Bingo of the night so far:

AGAROSES (80 points) - against Dennis M.

High-scoring words of the night so far:

TSAR (108 points) - against Melissa C. [two 4W, and hook off EN for a plural]
CATTIER (144 points) - against Barbara M. [two 4W]

Spent some time editing details and getting the timeline approximately correct this morning on Facebook - yay for being OCDL! Jesse asked me how late my party would run, so I changed the time to 8 since he might drop by at 9. Danielle wanted to let me know that she could make it - she keeps getting an error message when she tries viewing the Evite! Yikes, I wonder if it's like that for everyone else too! Went on a grocery run with David, and had some kid ask us in the frozen food aisle if we were married: HAHAHA, no! Although he did have some lady comment on how he had bought eight lactose-free milk cartons... random comments on your grocery selection?! I got Smoky BBQ chips by both Pringles and Old Dutch, and he got a bunch of cereal too! Talia asked about Wal-Mart and guns, and Corey's bugging me that I want to be part of that shock site I inadvertently clicked on... he's lucky I'm not over there right now! We're talking about endurance, while Andrew asked about anguish! (I am cool, open, awesome, loving, caring, and have a lot to offer people!)

I will make my OWN fun!

Nathan picked me up late, as I thought he would. Didn't matter to me! When we got there, he had to pay the "penalty" and say grace for us all, haha. Talked to Vivian, Eric, Jeremy, Nathan, and Jon about a bunch of stuff: relationships, hockey pool drafting at 6 AM Sunday and how it affected the worship team (Jon has nobody that would be affected!), Emily x2, Margaret, Stanley, parties, Brown Social House, context, Nathan eating a LOT of prawns (everyone just dumped their shells onto his plate - my brother HAD to take a picture of them!), rings, Harmony, weddings, June, blackberry ice cream, purple yam ice cream, and whether Kenneth or Kelvin had one more kid. Nathan tried looking it up on Facebook - nothing! "You think he'd advertise the kid... Daisy doesn't look pregnant in this Vegas picture, or they'd take the baby with them!" He asked me what Kelvin's wife's name was (Evelyn), and withstood my mom's joking that he should get on the business of getting married and having kids. (he and Kenneth are the same age) Definitely not by the year's end - he's content to let Jon get married first! Eventually, my mom had to call Auntie Stella to figure out this question: It was KELVIN who had the second kid, haha! ("Maybe KAREN [their sister] has two sons we don't know about!")

Harmony also seemed very confused when I answered the phone, then Nathan, and then Eric - she couldn't hear us very well, which contributed. Vivian thanked me for the eggs I sent her on Facebook - it is fun to wonder what they'll hatch into! Jon loved the squash soup, and commented that Christon would love the consecutive squash-filled Sunday dinners! I laughed and said that Steph would mock-complain about all the squash discussion in her email when it came to Sunday Dinner invite time! It was an okay night, I suppose. I can make my own fun next week, and I am determined to do that! (Steve and I are going out sometime this week for pizza and a movie - it'll be fun!) We learned about certain pre-wedding ceremony stuff in the Chinese tradition (9 is a better number than 8?! NO 4!), and had some prosciutto in the soup - Vivian couldn't have that, but she could have the salmon and everything else! Eric just couldn't have the ice cream, coffee, or anything else with sugar in it: apparently, Dad didn't know about it, or just forgot. At least I sent my Evite out just now, so we'll see who replies! (Karen said she's NOT going...)

Email doesn't have to be immediate!

High-scoring words of the day so far:

BECAME (144 points) - against Katie R. [4W, 2W, 3L on B]
DUCATS (128 points) - against Angela V. [two 4W]
SHORN (156 points) - against Elizabeth C. [two 4W; hook off TRAM to pluralize it]

Emailed Nathan right before I went to bed last night to see if he could give me a ride tonight - he could, and also gave me the link to Chinese Eric's Youtube video. Due to discussions at the Night Market, I'd wanted to email him so he could have my address... but haven't found a reason to till now. At least now he has the address and I have the video! Called my mom earlier today to ask when dinner was (since Nate had asked), and she asked if I could come over earlier! (something about pants) I told her that I would, but what she DOESN'T know is that all depends on when Nate picks up Jeremy... that is, if Jeremy hasn't decided to come over straight after work!

She says she invited Vivian S., and then wondered how Daniel was doing in elementary school! That's Cindy and Vanessa, since Daniel teaches high school! When she asked me whether Nathan was up now, I was a bit confused until she said: "He emailed you! You told me!" HAHAHAHA, oh yeah. She apparently thinks that email works like instant messaging, where both parties have to be awake at the same time! Nope, since he emailed me at 2:30 AM! (and I bid goodnight to Corey hours before that!) Tonight actually reminds me of my old family birthday parties, where family friends would be invited to make up the rest of the guest list: Susan, Yvonne, Eugene, Dawn, Eunice, Eric, Kieran, and various others. (besides the school contingent: Brandy Whibbs, Kim Berlinger, Trine Wildhagen, etc.) I'll attribute any snarly feelings to redrum, haha. ;)

Just learned that I have plans on Saturday - this makes me happy! :D

COREY D, YOU ARE GONNA GET IT!

I have just found something worse than being Rick Rolled: being deliberately misdirected to certain shock sites while looking up menus and such for Browns Social House in Richmond! If Corey were here, you better believe I'd yell at him a lot. So he's getting the same treatment over MSN - he DESERVES it! Heck, I need to bleach my eyes now... and if THAT shows up in my dreams tonight (like the Giver did once), I don't know WHAT will be in store for him in the future! After that, he'll send me the real menu in HTML format... fine by me! I need to go look up a LOT of cute stuff to get THAT image out of my brain... o_O

Let's see this menu, then... martinis starting at $9, margaritas, Bellinis, yam fries substitution for $1.50, hamburgers, pasta, wonton soup, pizza, salad, mushrooms, steak, a "chicken dragon bowl," Pad Thai (both K and I had less-than-stellar reactions to Boston Pizza's version!), crab legs, and other things. ACK! Apostrophe abuse! Heh... people tell me it's a new restaurant with a lounge-type feel in the evenings. Sounds okay for birthday purposes, and it'll be something new.

Tony's on Facebook now?! OH MY!

Bingo of the day so far:

DERIDING (68 points) - against Katie R.

High-scoring words of the day so far:

MILD (112 points) - against George M. [two 4W]
GOANNA (112 points; four 2W), SAFER (128 points; two 4W) - against Shelley R.-B.
ICE (70 points) - against Shelley R.-B. (5W, hook off EX to make XI) {different game}

MAVEN (224 points; two 4W), BOILER (128 points; two 4W), FUNKS (108 points; 2W, 4W, hook off NAP to make SNAP), DUST (176 points; 2W, two 4W, hook off EEL to make EELS), GANEF (288 points; 2W, two 4W) - against Shelley R.-B. [yet another game]

HAHAHA! I discovered that Tony caved and joined Facebook.... he hopes he doesn't get sucked in like he did with WORLD OF WARCRAFT! (not much chance of his NOT getting sucked in...) I'll suggest a lot of people he knows, hehe. He's already friends with Chris and Ivan... so maybe Mike, Lucas, Phil, Raymond, Steph, Sam, Nathan, Lawrence, Adam, Andrew, Ray, Stanley, Eric, and a few more. Jennifer F. added me to Facebook, as well - sweet for playing Wordscraper!

Oh man, I just discovered English Fail. This is going to be my new waste of time... this, and Snopes! HAHAHAHA, this one is HILARIOUS! :D

The submitter of this picture wrote: "This sign blew me away. I found it in a store that sells school and teacher supplies; I think the place is run by a Korean couple."

Let's Westernize the Chinese food by adding salad to it!

High-scoring words of the day so far:

HOT (96 points) - against Sara H. [two 4W]
BEWIG (176 points) - against Colin W. [two 4W]
REHIRE (144 points) - against Karla M. [two 4W]
TRAVE (128 points) - against Allie M. [two 4W]
EXPERT (960 points) - against Bonnie C. [three 4W]
ZIPS (480 points) - against Kathy H. [2W, two 4W]

SIZED (240 points) - against Angela V. [two 4W]
TROMP (144 points) - against Shelley R.-B. [four 2W]

Found out that Serena DID NOT delete me from Facebook - phew! Just couldn't find her in the search box, so thought she might have. :P [Lincoln added me, too - yay!]

This morning, I went to church with Jon and Grandma. When Jon asked Grandma if she liked his weird music (to amuse us), she said that she didn't really have a preference. And here I was expecting her to say that she was too old, so her opinion didn't really matter! Got to church late, but sat by Chuck - smiled hello at Mark, and laughingly shook my head at Jeremy when I saw him jokingly try reading the Chinese Bible! (their parents came in later than we did, and we exchanged warm greetings after service was over) We found Chung's announcement about our website security to be pretty funny: "Now you can peruse it at your leisure and not have to worry about spreading viruses everywhere!" Everyone laughed when Pastor Edward announced how the Floata celebration banquet would become more Westernized in terms of food: "We had to just get some salad! They don't serve steak... it's a CHINESE restaurant!"

Talked to various people afterwards about the Grouse Grind and stuff... said hi to Mark H. after discussing Megan / Connor / tea sets / cuteness. Sophia's baby Anne cried when she saw me, because hats scare her! The extended family is going to Hawaii this afternoon, and the babies have never been on a plane before. Ian and Olivia have, but not Micah / Anne / Gabriel! Spent some time entertaining Jenica, Michelle's five-year-old niece - Brian was appalled that she knew what rap was! "You taught her HOUSE OF PAIN?!" "Some of that isn't suitable for children, so I only taught her selected lines! Vanessa raps too, Jenica!" "The van smelled like GAS!" "That's right!" She met a lot of people, and apparently she met my mom at the PNE. Isabel and Sarah thought she was cute - she IS smart and funny! Waved to Helen and Nicholas - she and Karen (and Lily) are getting HUGE, and probably can't wait for October when their babies are due!

Wandered around with Tony, and spent a pleasant five minutes talking to Raymond about his weekend and busy schedule / bad food intake, plus loud house parties from neighbors... NOT quieter than spending time with the kids! I definitely understand why he hasn't had time for Wordscraper lately! (sleepovers, work farewell parties, meetings, and more!) Talked to Dianne, who was studying outside the church. Teresa asked me when we were moving into the new church building - in less than a month now! Jon was giving away donuts left over from yesterday (Dad had bought them in thanks for the moving crew with the furniture), and then gave the box to Danny since he had to sign up for the Walkathon. He joked to Sam and Sheena that he should get comped for it: "Dude, I *work* for this place!" Got a ride home with Eric: discussed dancing, Cordia, Joyce, football, Joey, phone calls, trips, work, craziness, and more.

Glenlivet Scotch and turducken

High-scoring word of the night so far:

JUNKIE (416 points) - against Danielle L. [two 4W, plus a 3L on J]

For clarification purposes: "Jon" is Jon H. My brother is "my brother" or "the ugfart."

Eric picked me up after 6, and he took great pleasure in bugging me about SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA. I don't think that would be my type of show! He also thought I had a keg party before dinner; I never do that, thanks! I told him what I'd done this afternoon (he was NOT impressed), and asked about his: it involved WORLD OF WARCRAFT; not surprising! Also discussed names I really don't like, even if my reasons are irrational / indescribable / "weird." We got to Jeremy's, and greeted Mark, in town for a family friend's wedding. My brother came later on with Dallas, whom he'd supposedly picked up off the street as a random straggler - the poor guy had just finished the MCAT yesterday! Seems Jeremy's parents were discussing what Jon did when he was invited to a dinner: SURE he picks up random people for these events! Shook hands with Jon, and wished him a happy early birthday since his is on Tuesday. Tony and Sonny came after asking for directions (as usual), met a bunch of Jon's friends (DUPLICATE NAMES!), and fielded a call from Lesley while my brother was in the beer cellar with Dallas.

While we were discussing duplicate names, everyone thought it quite funny when I answered Lesley's phone call with "Hi, Lesley - this is Leslie." The ugfart asked whether she was coming: she is if she asked for directions! Dallas had actually met another person with his name in rez recently, so that seemed cool. He had to get up EARLY for the exam, and spent some time telling us about it. The turducken was all right: seems some of us were expecting the three meats (turkey / duck / chicken) on top of one another, but that proved not to be the case. It was wrapped in bacon to keep the flavor and moisture in, and THAT had some maple in it! Sonny, Jeremy, Lesley, and I discussed the first week of school: go join clubs, or read more English books! Jer recommended ANIMAL FARM, and then NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR, and asked if I wanted my drunk book back. Mark was interested in it, but I didn't want it back right then. It's fine if Jer finished it, since I know he can be counted on to give it back - the fact that he asked is something! Later, my brother said: "What's that on your plate, Sonny?" [it was ice cream, swirled around] Mark overheard this, and started laughing. He thought the ug was referring to Sonny by a generic nickname... clarification came when it was revealed that Sonny was his actual name! HAHAHAHA!

We discussed Internet fads and macros (ALL YOUR BASE, THE CAKE IS A LIE, being Rick Rolled, Cyanide and Happiness, etc.), FAIL BOATS, Tony's Sept. 20 birthday gift being four heads of different sorts of lettuce, Tuesday's dinner at the townhouse, moving stuff from the old church building to the new one, driving / walking across the Trans-Canada Highway, Eric wanting to enjoy our alcohol vicariously, and Dallas actually drinking some of Jeremy's homebrew to celebrate or honor the occasion of turducken / Jon's birthday / Eric's birthday. Jon told Mark that Nathan REALLY lacked a red-face enzyme, haha! The port put Mark to sleep, and I liked the Camembert cheese better than the Havarti - must be the white "shell," haha. Some people tried the toffee ice cream that I bought, which I kept referring to as TOFU ice cream, but only to Eric. I was just a bit tipsy at that point on some homebrew and oaked ale, haha. Some of us agreed that we could die now that we'd had turducken, hehe. (discussed chicks, sex, and more...)

Jeremy asked Sonny if he were underage [he's only 16, private house party or not!], then asked Tony if we could get his brother drunk since Tony is Sonny's guardian! [WE ARE NOT ADVOCATING UNDERAGE DRINKING!] When the answer was NO ("my dad thinks alcohol is evil, too!"), the ug asked if we could get HIM drunk first! Tried some milk tea from two recipes, one of which needed more sugar. At the last before hugging Jon goodbye, I snuck some Glenlivet Scotch... that partially explains why I'm not making any phone calls right now. I had enough trouble with my words on the way home, especially when trying to say "tailgating epidemic," heh. Discussed the parents letting up on the ug about alcohol consumption lately, and I told Eric that I wouldn't say what I said when he called me earlier. (blame the message board - it's what *I* do!)
