Mardi Gras, International Women's Day, pancakes, and TV dinners

HAPPY MARDI GRAS!
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!

At 3 AM, Teunis decided to make an old favorite dish of his, which consisted of rice / frozen veggies / sausage. Interesting! He said I could wake him up when I got up, so I am playing KMFDM and other things at 30% speaker volume in an attempt to do this. I got a rebate cheque from Telus in the mail, along with McDonalds coupons - I guess those will go to Wes, hahaha. Then again, I could just go for pancakes like I was going to do seven years ago, only Ricky's is now the Tim Horton's. What to do?! Hmm... IHOP? Hahaha!

Word Facts for Jan. 8-14, 2011

Word origin for the weekend of Jan. 8-9, 2011: Birds Eye - Clarence Birdseye, a Canadian trapper, invented what he called the quick-freezing method in 1924. While working in the Arctic, he noticed that fish frozen immediately after being caught tasted better than fish that were slowly frozen. His quick-freezing process resulted in 168 patents, as well as the frozen-food company that bears his name in the form "Birds Eye."

Word origin for Jan. 10, 2011: pooh-bah - Not often heard these days but still eminently useful, the term "pooh-bah" means an official who has all the power to make your life miserable... and knows it. The word comes from the name of a character in the Gilbert and Sullivan opera The Mikado, in which Pooh-Bah is a vain braggart who likes nothing more than adulation save for a handsome bribe.

Word origin for Jan. 11, 2011: Facebook - The social computing site known as "Facebook" began life as a literal book of faces (well, a loose-leaf binder, anyway) at Harvard University. This compendium included photographs attached to profile sheets detailing the interests of the students who signed up for the service. That information was transferred online in February 2004, still serving the Harvard community, but quickly extending to other Boston-area schools. It is now a worldwide phenomenon, with tens of millions of users.

Word origin for Jan. 12, 2011: mohair - Many fine varieties of wool are referred to as "mohair," particularly when they take the form of scarves and sweaters. The word has nothing to do with hair, despite appearances. Instead, it is an English effort to spell the Arabic word mukhayyar, which means "of the finest quality."

Word origin for Jan. 13, 2011: Frisbee - Time was, students in New England schools enjoyed flinging empty pie tins (which flew like flying saucers) back and forth, especially those made by a bakery called Frisbie's. On January 13, 1957, a company called Wham-O began to produce a similar toy that it called the Pluto Platter Flying Disk. Quite by chance, the Frisbie bakery closed that year; Wham-O acquired the name and began to sell its product as the "Frisbee."

Word origin for Jan. 14, 2011: mystical - One might think, given the hazy wonders of the magical world, that "mystical" somehow connects to "mist." It does not. Instead, it comes from the Greek verb muein, which means "to close the mouth or eyes," and is directly connected to the word "mystery." A mystery, by that light, is something that a mystic promises not to speak of, just as a thoughtful magician will never reveal another magician's tricks.

Tips for stealth in foam from Althea! / China villages / Prayer cynicism / Steam Packets

High-scoring words of the night:

STEALTH (300 points) - against Elaine P. [5W, 4W]
TIP (140 points) - against Susan C. [5W, 4W]
FOAM (276 points) - against George M. [4W, 3W, 2W used twice, hook off RUBIOUS to make AR / MU]
ALTHEAS (600 points) - against Chris W. [2W, two 5W]
KETCHES (133 points) - against Sheila P. [3W used twice, hook off COPE to make SCOPE]
ABO (108 points) - against Margaret S. [two 4W, hook off ELBOW to make LA / WO]

Called Auntie Ying briefly; she said her trip to China's villages was good, if a bit stressful because of her mom. Uncle Peter took pictures; Uncle Y.C. and Auntie Catherine accompanied them, which explains why THEY weren't at church in September! She says that she's praying for the church; we did that LAST time in 2004, and a fat lot of good THAT did! Yes, I'm cynical. I told her about Teunis staying over only because she wanted to know about my month - and no, I still don't talk much to certain people if I can help it! Hello!

Trivia fact for Friday, Oct. 8: By what name do we know the company established in 1839 as the British and North American Royal Mail Steam Packet Company? The Cunard Line.

WHAT THE HECK... RESIGNATION?! UGH!!!!

When Eric picked me up this morning, we discussed intonation / the Lions game vs. the Blue Bombers / toxic vs. venom / his thinking that I need a good relationship with people / my being a snake / the hockey draft / the wedding / "cool people" / being "drunk" / obligations. At church, I couldn't get out of the car because of the grass - unfortunately, Cindy had to happen by and witness Eric reparking the car twice so I could get out! Once I got into the building, my usual row was full; I had to sit behind Jeremy instead! I said hi to him, and he wondered if I'd heard what some people had done after Fellowship on Friday. Apparently, they'd gone over to his place as a surprise, but he was in the shower. His roommate Ryan came home while they were trying to break in, and wondered just what the heck was going on, haha! This is why you don't just SURPRISE people! (the same thing happened to Connie a few years ago, in fact!)

Talked to Chrystal after that, and noted that her aunt was back from China! I assumed that Auntie Ying would be too jet-lagged to attend service, heh. Chrystal's parents and Emily are or will be on the same tour, so she'll get LOTS of alone time! We also discussed the wedding. Went back to my seat to find Connie nearby - she did indeed drive home last night as Jenny was feeling woozy! She packed a bit when she got home at 12:15 AM because of a work trip to Düsseldorf; hopefully, she'll be at church next Sunday after she gets back the night before! Said hi to Joyce, and handed Christon and Jeremy their birthday cards and Guylian chocolates later on. Learned that Julie, Yvonne, and Sabrina will be getting baptized next week (Seraphim baptism cards, or regular Thanksgiving cards?) - along with some other Sabrina (that'll be confusing!) and some guy named Vernus - WHAT KIND OF NAME IS THAT?! Oh, Chinese people...

During Communion, I joked that Stanley (sitting behind me) was being lazy since he wouldn't stand up to "pass the peace" with people, and he got the humor! Then I was surprised to feel a tap on the shoulder, which turned out to be Randal (of all the people) wanting to shake hands with me - FINE, WHATEVER! I followed Raymond and Randal (who happened to be sitting beside me - I kept personal space barriers!) to the other side for the sacraments. Good thing I did, since I saw Mr. Creep in the last row of the farthest section! UGH! Randal impeded my progress back to my seat by shaking Mr. Creep's extended hand, too! However, the announcement that Pastor John was about to make would drive most other thoughts from my head...

HE SAID THAT HE IS RESIGNING BECAUSE HIS VALUES AND VISION DON'T REALLY FIT WITH THE CHURCH LEADERSHIP! I thought that maybe one of his family members had a life-threating illness or something, but as he went on with the emotionally difficult announcement, that wasn't the case. People were shocked, sad, crying, and going through a bunch of emotions! Christon said it was a closely-guarded secret, and offered Connie his hand - I put an arm around her for added support and comfort.

Later, I saw Harrison eating chips and pretzels from a paper cup, so said hi. Little kid interactions usually cheer me up a bit, which is what I wanted. His dad Alex wanted to know if I were in Awana - yes, you DO see me almost every week! Turns out that Harrison got an extra-large Sparky uniform when he's really a small... sure, just exchange it on the 16th! Victor said hi to me, so I talked to him briefly about Awana... I didn't really care if he could tell I'd been crying! When I got into the fellowship hall, I'd pretty much decided to skip toddler Sunday School in favor of the quick forum to talk about the announcement and feelings. Got some coffee, and was talking to people when Auntie Catherine pulled me aside. She gave me a birthday card and a fountain pen (with my name spelled wrong - but she means well), so I thanked her for the belated birthday wishes.

Went over to where Christon was talking to Harmony and Jen, since I figured he'd have inside info on this... Wesley and Jeremy joined us later. Discussed 2004, lessons, this being different than the Pastor Glen situation, dreading today, post-mortem emotions, processing, not demonizing the Deacon Board, losing sleep, Lesley not keeping it together before service (so Jeremy started crying - and wished he could have taken the Communion platter from her), little hints like "re-structuring" / a pre-season game hint given only to Eric, who's good at hiding things (and why wasn't *I* invited?!), Christon telling Dylan to RELAX and RECHARGE in the Philippines (he doesn't know), last week's meeting, stages of grief like anger / sadness / denial / some acceptance, respecting privacy, and more. Chung, Christon, and others will remain on the ESCC and carry out Pastor John's vision of social justice as best they can, so that's good.

Calla, Karmie, Pastor John, Phil, Chung, Pastor Edward, Tim, Jon, and Christon spoke during the forum to clarify feelings and state that this was a final decision. Apparently, he's reconsidered it once already in June, when friends talked him out of the decision; however, he noticed the same cumulative events and patterns. There will be a family meeting to discuss this on the original date of the AGM, so that's why it was moved. Also talked about agony, personal reflections, kind offers, and more. My Sundays are looking busy this month, for sure! At least this time around, I won't have to deal with as much negativity from certain sources.

Afterwards, we all clustered around to discuss things some more; nobody was in the mood to discuss the birthday dinner tonight, but at least the birthday boys will get a break from cooking! Christon might just buy a rotisserie chicken from Safeway and call it done since he doesn't know if he'll have the energy for cooking. I know Jeremy's youth church had something similar happen, where the pastor who baptized him had to leave! People wanted to go out to have a (non-alcoholic!) drink so they could talk about things some more - when Mr. Creep came up to the group since he wanted lunch, Eric indicated that he wanted to go. That's certainly VERY good friendship, since he KNOWS how I feel about him! In the car, I thanked him for leaving - then he said he'd normally go for lunch (NO!), but there were other pressing matters to attend to. Well, good - I'm still glad I had a narrow escape!

He made sure that his family had left for O'Hare's pub without waiting for him, and then we were both mainly quiet / somber / subdued as we thought about things. Even our joking and such was muted! I saw a truck which said DERRICK TRUCKING - good thing it didn't say what I thought it might have! He jokingly thought I was a rude lady for making him check his email for what I'd be bringing, when I could expend a minimum amount of effort to tell him right then! However, I couldn't help him with the start time of tonight's dinner, so he WOULD have to check his email for that... HA! Also discussed what Randal had done during Communion (detailed above), BS small group outing (not sure what they're doing), and non-specific food items.

When I got home, I called my sister at work with the fresh news; Mom had beat me to it, she said. (I guess being the wife of the soon-to-be-retired church administrator has its perks...) I told her about the wedding - yes, the inside joke WAS "it's about time!" She thought it would have been a good wedding since I saw people I hadn't seen for years - oh yes! Also, she thinks that our parents are going to Italy on the 15th or 16th. If next weekend is just as hectic as this weekend (no indications that it WON'T be...), then I just might not make it to the family Thanksgiving dinner! Who knows.

Teunis and I discussed his job leads, a game both adults and kids can play (Teresa's six-year-old designs its own levels!), Terry Pratchett and his homemade sword which he hid from the authorities, trolls, and Alzheimer's. Also talked about a "bothersome" news show on genocide / Rwanda / the Congo / bodysnatching, Vikings, mosques in the US, Christianity, Islam, Denmark, warrior religions, wars, Freya, legends, history, silly songs, gum vs. mints, the Arrogant Worms, details and accuracy, the War of 1812, and more.

Trivia fact for Thursday, Sept. 23: What movie funnyman appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in a photo parody of the famous Coppertone ad that showed a dog pulling down Little Miss Coppertone's panties? Jim Carrey, in the magazine's 1995 Summer Double Issue, with the headline "Jim Carrey - Bare Facts and Shocking Revelations." Esquire magazine ran a similar parody featuring Carmen Electra in June 2004.

Mary of Bethany, support, and Britney Spears

Managed to find Karmie's house all right, although I was on the 404 and not the 403. Actually, I unexpectedly saw Jon and Harmony at the bus stop on their way to the family dinner - Jon said that they'd thrown my bag away. He is SUCH an ugfart! Connie and Andrea also made it out, and I actually saw Connie outside in her car! We examined Mary of Bethany, and her waste in pouring expensive perfume on Jesus at a dinner. I shared about recent events, figuring that it would be a good time... of course, I ended up crying. Yikes! At least the others were supportive about it, and said the right things. Learned that Connie is going to Taiwan pretty soon on a work-related trip, and Andrea gave me the correctly-spelled wedding invitation. Talked about Chuck, helmets cracking, Josiah / Hannah / Noah, miracles, the Olympic experience, and more. Andrea gave me a ride home, and unexpectedly treated me to a Tim Horton's hot chocolate too.

Trivia fact for Thursday, Mar. 4: How long, in hours, did pop star Britney Spears' first marriage - to childhood pal Jason Alexander - last? 55. Spears exchanged vows with Alexander in a Las Vegas wedding chapel at 5:30 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2004, and had the marriage annulled at midday the following Monday. Both were 22 at the time.

What are you most afraid of: You are afraid of things that you cannot control. Sometimes you show your anger to cover up how you feel.

Cartons with 24 copies of OUTLANDER, Sean in dreams, Claudia and avatars, painting the world

I have filled out a form to hopefully receive a free (?) carton with 24 copies of OUTLANDER for giveaway, and maybe a free copy of AN ECHO IN THE BONE... would be cool if I got it! All I remember about my dream last night is that little Sean was following me around a big parking lot, reading everything out loud. Cute!

Finally joined Claudia's (astrotre) community, ALL_AVATARS, too... since it's so inactive, I was easily able to view all the posts. She'd asked me in May 2004 if I'd join, but I declined on the grounds that the 486 liked to go boom and not be totally reliable when it came to lots of pictures. (I remember the devilish superimposition at Our Place all too well...) As time went by, I of course forgot about that request. I only came across it again because of the LOCATION project - YAY! Wonder if I can find her on Facebook... she was certainly very cool. :D

You Paint the World with Calming Colors

You are a true friend. You are very dependable.

Your friends can always count on you to be competent. You are good at anything you do.

You are a truly successful person ... though sometimes it's hard for you to appreciate your success.

You are quite cautious and conservative. You like to weigh risks carefully.

Post-Awana doings, almond nougats, and enemas

Krista invited me to her barbecue (where I might see Kyle / Lindsay), but I faced the same problem as a few years ago when Jon and Christine had their recital in Tsawwassen - no ride! In 2004, this was solved by people already at Awana. This year, it was solved by a quick email to Teunis, who can indeed pick me up at the church around 6 after Awana. I'm glad I can go - I just need to remember to inform Ada at some point during the afternoon!

I just finished eating the almond nougats that Rachel and Lisa gave me in the little yellow dragon bag: they're pretty much the same kind as little Rachel's grandma gave me one time. Clear regular almond nougat, purple soft cranberry nougat x2, blue soft blueberry nougat, and yellow soft orange nougat definitely are good!

Poo nugget for Wednesday, July 15: Doo You Know? - 3500 Years of Enemas - The earliest documented use of enemas is found in the Egyptian Ebers Papyrus from 1500 BC. Egyptians believed that all disease was caused by an excess of food, and looked to enemas as a way to cleanse the system.

Toxin-free on cruise ships with Johnny Depp and Sloan!

I'm no longer sick... I think I know the approximate time my body became (not really) toxin-free. No, I'm not crazy! But I should quit procrastinating (which is what I've been doing for the past five hours), and go out to get stuff DONE!

Leslie completed the quiz "Which Memphis, TN hood are you?" with the result Germantown. Can you say: prep? How about: stuck up? If not, then you'd better learn, because these words describe you! Don't get us wrong, you cool sometimes.. real cool.. "best man at da wedding" cool. But that's just sometimes... most of the times, people rather enjoy puttin' you in yo place. (Just because I chose all the SAFE options?! Sheesh... if this is what Memphis is really like, I'm glad I wasn't convinced when Stephen was around back in 2004-2005! That, or there are a lot of black gangster (wannabe?) types in Memphis! :P)

Facebook quizzes taken from Jennifer J., Diane, Jemima, and Shannon:

Leslie just took the "If I was working on a Cruise ship, I'd be..." quiz and the result is Purser. You don't have a clue what you're doing, but you're willing to smile and kiss ass to make it to the top. Make sure you always have toothpaste and Listerine close by!

Leslie completed the quiz "Which celebrity should you marry?" with the result Johnny Depp. You should marry Johnny Depp. You like the bad boy turned good type, the hotel room trasher turned loveable daddy type. He is your soul mate.

Leslie took the How much can you love someone? quiz and got the result: With 50% of my heart. (Damn right! I need the other half for different people in my life!)

Leslie took the What is the Name of the person you will Marry? quiz and got the result: I will Marry: Sloan. (The only person I ever knew with that "name" was a girl. I would never want to date anybody with that name anyway, just in case he thought those types of names were EXCELLENT for children. Besides, it sounds too preppy. :P)

I can finally read about Norrell and Strange!

I'm at the library: I was dubious about going out in the rain at first, but it seems to be a bit sunnier now. I borrowed Anne of Windy Poplars (Lucy Maud Montgomery), Anne's House of Dreams (Lucy Maud Montgomery), Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell: A Novel (Susanna Clarke) [I've wanted to read this ever since it came out in 2004!], The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear: being the demibiography of a seagoing bear, with numerous illustrations and excerpts from the "Encyclopaedia of the marvels, life forms, and other phenomena of Zamonia and its environs" by Professor Abdullah Nightling (Walter Moers), Rilla of Ingleside (Lucy Maud Montgomery), and might borrow some more prior to leaving! Found a spare computer (FRANCE), further found that I can't play Wordscraper on it, and then fielded a message from Raymond ABOUT Wordscraper. Seems it's boring and lacks interest for him now, and he thinks it's not the time to play for him - I'll definitely find another Facebook friend to play the game, for sure! It might be a way of saying "I surrender - tired of losing" for him, but I don't really mind.

You Are Rain

You are dark and dramatic. You tend to be a bit over the top.

You have strong emotions, and they can change quickly. You are tempestuous.

You are wild and unpredictable. You tend to overwhelm and surprise people.

While you are aggressive, you are also a homebody. You don't really care for physical activities.

Leslie's just got their Chinese Name. I just got my Chinese Name. It's Xiaozhi Hu.

Leslie just took the Are You A Quiz Addict and is A little Quiz Addict. I am A little Quiz Addict. You are a little bit addicted to quizzes, but in a healthy way; nothing to be worried about. When you start naming your kids after quiz show hosts, then you need to be worried.

Poo nugget for Monday, May 11: Doo You Know? - Stupid Pet Tricks - With a lot of patience and practice, rats can be trained to use a toilet instead of a litter box. There are even reports of cats who have taught themselves. Some cat owners have trained their pets to flush as well, by attaching a toy on a string to the flush handle. This practice can backfire when the cats decide to entertain themselves by flushing the toilet all night long.

Ronald Reagan and George Bush

High-scoring words of the night so far:

WIVE (151 points) - against Mintford B. [5W, 4L on W, hook off MAX to make MAXI] {a good deficit-erasing word}
FOH (105 points; 3W, 4L on H, hook off WOO to make WOOF), GRAVURE (125 points), VINYLS (2W, two 4W) - against Kimberly R.
RECOOK (229 points) - against Paula T. [3W, 5W, hook off DEW to make ER and WE]
JEON (162 points) - against Angela V. [4W, 3W]
BESOTTED (106 points) - against Taylor R. [4W]
MOVE (264 points) - against Erin C. [2W, 3W, 4W]

Poo nugget for Friday, Feb. 6: Presidential Polyps - February 6 is the birthday of Ronald Reagan (1911-2004), the fortieth president of the United States. President Reagan had a long and complicated gastrointestinal history, which included a diagnosis of colon cancer. Having had a longstanding history of polyps, Mr. Reagan underwent frequent colonoscopic examinations which, in 1985, revealed an early stage colon cancer. He underwent surgery the day after diagnosis (so he wouldn't have to clean out his colon again!), and transferred presidential power to Vice President George Bush for approximately eight hours.

OCDL note of the night: I now have 560 Blogger tags.

Anthems, cologne, and Terren reminders

High-scoring words of the afternoon so far:

ANTHEMIA (194 points) - against Kailea S.-G. [two 3W]
PTERIN (168 points) - against Heide S. [3W, two 2W] {this word reminds me of Korey's cousin's name... I justifiably hung up on him once when he was going on about black people / the media / dogs / what I presumably thought!}

This is the afternoon's amusement:

[17:01:25] Flami: the hamsterette: I want rosemary lamb sirloin now.
[17:03:26] Corey: will you settle for your package being in the mail? :P
[17:04:28] Corey: I told them there was no liquid in there, and there is, so hopefully that doesn't mess anything up :P they also said Canada is slow as hell these days and told me to definitely not use any sort of fast shipping method, because it's pretty much guaranteed to not get there remotely close to on time...
[17:05:27] Corey: it would go to the border fast, but from there, who knows :P that's what happened the last time I was shipping stuff all over the world.. it'd go to Australia, or Finland or something like a week before Canada, which is right next door...
[17:05:44] Corey: and didn't you have some issue like that recently with something coming from the US taking forever?
[17:08:36] Flami: um. liquid in the package? oh dear.
[17:08:46] Flami: yes, and it still hasn't gotten here yet.
[17:09:07] Corey: yeah, it's a vial of acid, since I figured you like burning people
[17:10:29] Corey: you have to shake it pretty good to hear it slosh, and I have it wrapped up in stuff so it doesn't break :P
[17:11:07] Flami: I guess I'll wait to see if it gets here to find out if you're joking or not :P
[17:14:12] Corey: of course I am, but there's still liquid in there that's apparently not supposed to be :P
[17:19:32] Flami: please don't tell me that you included cologne or pee
[17:20:49] Corey: you use cologne?
[17:24:58] Corey: maybe you can have some next time, but I didn't think you wanted that, so no, you didn't get any
[17:25:32] Flami: not really, although I remember taking some Rialto cologne once in July 2004 from Eric's car since he said it wasn't his
[17:29:27] Corey: cologne is for boys
[17:29:37] Corey: you want perfume
[17:34:35] Flami: I know. never bought it.
[17:36:17] Corey: dinner time
[17:36:26] Corey: tell me if your acid gets there before I'm back

Post #5000: The History of Toilets

Yay, I've reached 5000 posts in this thing! :D

High-scoring words of the night so far:

VEES (115 points) - against Kate E. [5W, 4L on V]
ANXIETY (115 points) - against Dan N. [5W]
SAWLOG (615 points) - against Marg D. [two 5W, 2W]
SPY (145 points) - against Theresa B. [5W, 3L on Y, hook off FAD for a plural]

Poo nugget for Tuesday, Feb. 3: Doo You Know? The History of Toilets - It appears that toilets date back to at least 3000 BC. Evidence of primitive toilets has been found in the remains of neolithic Scottish settlements. By 2500 BC, the Harappan civilization had indoor water-flushing toilets in what is now Pakistan and India. Toilets existed in Minoan Crete, ancient Persia, ancient China, ancient Egypt, and ancient Rome. The toilets found in Roman bathhouses provide some of the earliest examples of sitting toilets, which didn't come into general use until the mid-1800s.

Makes me think of the book my brother got me from Ireland in 2004: Sitting Pretty: An Uninhibited History of the Toilet (Julie L. Horan) - sweet stuff. :D

This Tonks survey has too many love questions!

Another one from Sarah G. via Facebook:

1. Who is the first person you think of when someone asks you who you like? No idea!

2. Do you drool, snore, etc. in your sleep? I know I do!

3. Are you happy? More like content.

4. Have you ever liked someone who all your friends hate? Maybe. ;)

5. If you were born the opposite sex, what would your parents name you? The same thing, which would REALLY have created confusion in junior high!

6. Are you tan? No.

7. Hair color? Dark brown.

8. Confused about anything? Not right now.

9. Do you have any pets? Nope, they're not allowed in this apartment complex.

10. Do your initials spell anything? Not unless you speak some sort of alien language.

11. Last person you fought with? I'm proud of not really fighting with anyone, since I value tranquility in life. I guess the answer to this one would have to be Korey!

12. What's one thing you actually remember about kindergarten? Stephen H. comforting me on the playground... no, wait, that was Grade 1. Let's see... getting to play with my new friends at school!

13. Do you prefer to call or text someone? Call, I guess... although I can see the advantage of texting! (if you want to keep things all secret-like...)

14. What are you listening to? Bob Dylan, Ramblin' Gamblin' Willy.

15. Last movie you watched? Fargo.

16. What are you doing tomorrow? Not sure yet.

17. Are you excited for anything? Weddings, I guess...

18. What are you doing currently? Filling out this survey.

19. Is anything on your mind? Not really! I've cleared it!

20. Have you ever been given roses? Yup... yay for Chinese Eric!

21. What is your all-time favorite romance movie? Don't have one.

22. How many times have you honestly fallen in love? Maybe once.

23. What's your current problem? The stupid snow - it is impeding me from what I gotta do!

24. Have you ever had your heart broken? Not really.

25. Had a long-distance relationship? Yes, with Stephen and then Korey. It just doesn't work for me, I suppose.

26. How many kids do you want? MAYBE one.

27. At what age did you start noticing the opposite gender? Nice question. How am I supposed to know?!

28. Are you happy with your love situation? WHAT love situation?!

29. Do you know someone who likes you? Nope, and that's good.

30. Do you like anyone? Not really.

31. When is the last time you cried? Ages ago!

32. Why? Stupid things going on in my life then.

33. Does anyone know you're crying when you are? ... what the heck. I'd say no.

34. Who is the last person you hugged? Chris, yesterday.

35. Have you ever been told you were pretty or cute? Sure.

36. Ever been pregnant or gotten someone pregnant? Not to my knowledge! o_O

37. When was the last time you wished you could change something? A few months ago... and I *did* change it! YAY! :D

38. What was your last nightmare? Don't remember.

39. Who do you tell every secret to? Nobody!

40. What are you currently waiting for? Nothing, really.

41. Last time in the hospital? December 2004, visiting brother.

42. Do you have any tattoos or piercings? Nope!

43. Do you believe in a thing called love? Sure.

44. How old do you want to be when you have kids? NEVER!

45. Why did you smile last? Remembering a little kid's cuteness. :D

Past hilarious quotes, 2004 to mid-2005

No, I don't know why I haven't had a "quote collection" post in quite some time. Here they all are for your amusement:

WAY BACK:

Mom, on Van Halen's Panama: "Did they say GRANDMA?! Why are they singing about her?!"
Hahahaha... NO! I doubt the boys know my granny personally!

Mom, on the video for Our Lady Peace's song Clumsy: "Do they all have mental problems?! Everything is floating around in WATER!!!"
(my siblings and I concluded that Mom definitely isn't too PC!)

Mom and Dad, on the Sex Pistols: "Are you looking up PORN on the family computer?!"
HAHAHAHA, no. IF that were ever to happen (which it won't!), I'd do that on my own computer!

May 18, 2005: (Wednesday)

Mom to me: "Are you sure you don't want to move back home and pay us rent? That way, I can be sure that you don't go into... other professions! You never know about this Internet friend of yours. Jayson might drug you and then rape you... and then make you do other things that you don't want! He could be a primp!" My sister and I just laughed at her for being too paranoid, and for mangling English.

Mom, upon half-listening to my comment to Steph about finally emailing her a link to Palmer's picture: "You're going to pick up Jason Yeasting? Your Internet friend is going to pick you up?! Who's Palmer?!" (My sister explained that Palmer was his onscreen name, and that our conversation had nothing to do with our friend Jason. She doesn't think that Palmer's the dude she saw on the TV show who was wanted for harassing girls on the Vancouver Dateline thing!)

Dad, upon hearing my sister's future plans with Jessica and Margaret: "You're going to watch a show called America's Next Topless Model?!" My siblings and I laughed at him for THAT one! It's America's Next Top Model, NOT that thing! :P

This next batch (the numbered ones) are all from my sister's Xanga:

1. Dawn, on how she'd like to die: "I'd like to die while surrounded by family, biting into a nice piece of steak and suddenly just croak."

2. Last November [2004], my mom took a nutrition management exam as a part of her job. So she complained to me about the wordiness...

Her: "How come they call it MASTICATION when they can just say CHEWING? I will remember it because it sounds like MASTURBATION."

Me: "Yeah, Mum... it's the same thing as URINATION and peeing; and DEFECATION and pooing."

Her: "Hah??? I thought it was when you got your head cut off?!?!"

Me: "NO Mum, that's DECAPITATION."

I was so totally unamused! Oh, and Mum still cannot pronounce "anus"... she pronounces it like "ann-uss" and the male genitalia as "penn-iss." There was this one time she got so confused when we went to some pasta house, and my sister ordered a plate of penne... yeah. o_O

(Which reminds me of the time that Spoz thought "decaplets" were twins born with no heads... HAHAHAHAHAHA! How can you be born without a head?!)

3. My mom's idea of matchmaking, while on the phone to my sister in November 2004:

Mom: So, any of your girliefriends interested in Jon yet?
Steph: Um, not really...
Mom: Ha??? Have you asked them? Maybe you should introduce him to your friends!
Steph: I told my friends about him. But they're not interested.
Mom: HOW COME?! Jon is a GOOD boy!
Steph: They don't know him, Mum. He barely goes to our church!
Mom: Hmm. Well, you should try your best to help out your brother. You know, I still like *****, *****, and ********. Do they have boyfriends?
Steph: Nope!
Mom: Oh, gooooooooooooooooood. Maybe something will happen when he's here for Christmas.

What's funnier is that my DAD got into it too! (and he almost never does!)

Good thing Mom doesn't know about the entry in which Steph put out an open application for Jon's future wife. ;) She'd love the suggestions there, hahaha.

(Now accepting all applications...

It's Jon's birthday next week. I know this is gonna make me seem like a freak (erm, freakier?) but the only decent and meaningful gift I can think of is... a sister-in-law for myself! Ooo. I think I've spent too long with my mum, I'm becoming her double. Anyway, the more I think about it (and yes, I do think about it), the more I have certain people in mind. Hmm. I'd rather not risk those friendships by proclaiming who my ideal sis-in-law would be, but in case any of them is reading this post (hehe, and some of them do read this hehehehehehehe)... Jonathan is a very decent young man. He can play music to swoon you (although I don't think he's very romantic... and I don't really wanna know , he's not that ugly (despite his nickname) and he's got the cooooooolest sisters and a very fun mother! Oh, he has a father too, but no adjective for him... he's just not as fun as us Ng women... Anyway, contact me if interested... I would be pleased to arrange any get togethers. I only ask a couple things... crack the whip on his tardiness, and don't be a meanie! No awkward family dinners are allowed.

Welcome to the family! Ceci, Viv Lui, Becca, Melia, Cindy, or Becky!!! Hehe, one can only hope!
)

As for what really happened when he was over here for Christmas break, the poor boy had a gastrointestinal incident. He had to spend Christmas and half of Boxing Day in the hospital. :(

4. Mum: We're going to Uncle Ken and Auntie Ada's house for dinner on Thursday.
Steph: Who are they?
Mum: You know. Bernadette's parents!
Jon: Um... I think you mean Benedict.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

5. So my mum was writing a Christmas card for an old family friend... good thing Jon decided to proofread it. Instead of "Ngs crazy bunch," it said: "love from Ngs crazy butch"...

Nice. Real nice.
________________________________________________

Mum to my sister: Can you have a baby girl before I'm 60?
Erm... that gives her 3.5 years to produce. Eeek.

________________________________________________

Closely related to the above:

Mom to me: Don't go and get pregnant by the first guy that's nice to you!

The very next day:

Mom to me: I want you to give me GRANDCHILDREN as soon as possible!

Uh... talk about mixed messages THERE.... o_O
________________________________________________

Steph: Ew, Mum, did you just fart???
Mum: Noooo. I was only passing gas!

Hahaha... yeah, what's the difference? Oh, Mummy...

6. Mum: I think pink makes me look too fleshy.
________________________________________________________
Dad: Are those your Anne Frank socks?

(he meant Paul Frank!)

7. In March 2005, after my sister got a speeding ticket going to a non-existent football game / practice:

Steph: Oh Mum, guess what happened to me on Saturday!
Mum: You got a boyfriend?!!!
Steph: Uh, no. I got a speeding ticket.
Mum: HA??? Aiya, how much was it? Aiya!
Steph: Fifty-two bucks...
Mum: AIYA... so expensive! You're a dangerous driver!!!
Dad: Ha, what happened?
Steph: I got a speeding ticket.
Dad: Oh, haha. How much?
Steph: Fifty-two bucks...
Dad: Oh! So cheap!!! ... *five seconds pass* ... Anyway, I think it is time for you to settle down and get yourself a boyfriend.

My parents are funny. They're so opposite, but so alike at the same time.

8. From an April 2005 phone conversation my sister had with the parents:

Dad: Now, do you have a boyfriend yet? (read: How can you still be single?!)
Steph: No, Dad!
Dad: Ha? How come?! Aren't there any good boys at your church?
Steph: Uhhh....
Dad: That's ridiculous. I should send your mother over. Maybe she can make something happen for you! *pause* Maybe I should come by myself!

BAHAHAHAHA. MCBC boys, consider yourselves warned!

Mom: Steph, I've been thinking about *******. He is a very nice boy. What do you think about him??? Is he good enough to be your boyfriend???
Steph: Uhhh....
Mom: I have already been praying for the two of you. Hopefully, he will spark a conversation with you when you're home!
Steph: Uhhh... *thinks I NEED HELP!*

There's more where that came from!

Sometime in early 2005:

Karen and Vivian, at lunch: "Can we have an extra bowl for our large #9?"
Waitress: "What do you mean?"
Karen and Vivian: "We want to split a bowl of noodles!"
Waitress: "I don't understand!"
Karen and Vivian: "Okay, can we have two #9s? Only for one of them, can you leave the noodles and soup and meat OUT of it?"

(speak their language, and they'll eventually understand you!)

Feb. 27, 2005: (Sunday)

Jen, ordering Pho at lunch: "I'll have a #69, please." (grass jelly drink with ice)
Nathan: *makes a bunch of sex jokes that fly over her head*
Dawn and me: "Don't look it up on the Internet! The text should be enough! You actually don't need to know what exactly it is... just don't do a Google search for it, or even a general Net search!"
Jen: "It has something to do with sex, right?"
Nathan: "Yes! Just think about how the 69 is formed!"
Citrus: "NATHAN! Don't tell her that!"

May 21, 2005: (Saturday)

Mom, to me: "Did you make OFF with Palmer?!"
(NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!)

Four silly quotes from (Sunday) July 17, 2005:

1. Dad, at the restaurant: "Put the plate on the turntable!" (he meant the LAZY SUSAN, and insisted that the two were the same thing: my sister and I just gave each other a look)

2. Mom: "Take the garbage out... it's so STINGY!" (I told her that "stinky" and "stingy" were different things, and then she questioned the existence of Dictionary.com ... I would have showed her the site, but the wireless network was down, and my sister's laptop gave me a blue screen of death when I tried starting Mozilla)

3. Mom: "Aren't you concerned about your future daughter-in-law?" (uh, my brother's future wife would be my SISTER-in-law... I'll worry about my future daughter-in-law when I'm married and have a son, thanks!)

4. Mom: "You are my lover... you are my lovely daughter..." (she sings stuff like this ALL THE TIME, so I tried telling her that "lover" wasn't the right word AT ALL to use in that context... she agrees incest is wrong, but insisted that "lover" didn't ALWAYS mean its real meaning... yeah right!)

On Oct. 17, 2005 (Saturday) after I got home from the Awana Leadership Conference:

Mom: I'm having curry fishballs for dinner. Are you hungry?
Me: No, Mom... I just ate dinner and I had a big lunch.
Mom: What did you have?
Me: Stuff from the Bread Garden... cookies, chips, pasta salad, wraps...
Mom: Ha?! You had RATS for lunch?! Aiya!
Me: No, Mom... WRAPS!!! You know, where they put a bunch of stuff inside a wrap thing. They have those at your work! (she works as a dietary supervisor in the hospital system)
Mom: OH! Okay.... I thought you actually had rats for lunch!
Me: Of course not, Mom! Aiya!

Sometime mid-2005:

Dad: "When did you go to sleep?"
Jon: "Oh, 4-5 AM."
Dad: "What were you doing, reading people's blobs?"
Jon: "Blogs..."
Dad: "You should just call them blobs."

Sounds appropriate enough for me, as a lot of blogwriting does consist of people writing their thoughts down into one big blob of an entry. However, I do take time to see if my writing is clear, grammatically correct, and free of spelling errors. In other words, it takes time for me to type up a full entry.

(reminds me of when Adam Frey called me a "literal formless blob" because we were chatting over the Internet, hahaha)

Laundry can be very funny!

Bingo of the day so far:

UPBEARER (60 points) - against Pat K.

Writer's Block: The Eternal Nocturnal Struggle

Vampires or werewolves?
Vampires! I WANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD.... MUHAHAHAHA!
View other answers.

Hey, Rob's friend Taylor added me to Facebook - interesting! Both are musicians, which is SWEET!

On Thursday, the only notable thing that I did was to get my glasses fixed since they were bent a bit. I also got myself lost, whoops. At least the Safeway shopping cart I commandeered from the bottle return place was good for shopping at Save-On too! Yesterday was a different story - with Eric sick, Jon said he'd drive me to Vancouver and we could get a ride home with Ivan or Sam. Sounded fine to me! We talked about computer use, Harmony, Father's Day plans (none so far - THAT'S why there's no Sunday Dinner this week!), the dinner with Erin's family, glasses, and more. As we went up to the church, Cindy came running up saying that she was late as well. I just went to Pho way earlier than last week, haha. Saw Cordia's mom there, and she said that she'd take her home after the Missions meeting since she'd had her wisdom teeth out. Yeah, I don't think Cordia could last either! Right when I was finished with my own meal, Jen and Karen walked in. I didn't mind if they joined me at all. We discussed arguing, making up, work / journeys, fat camp, loving each other when we're pathetic, Pastor Glen's dismissal in 2004, hurt, the church being just like the world in factions and ending friendships, Florence, Mimosa, anger, Anita being upset, soccer, wanting to smoke (not with twenty people outside the church!), Eunice's parents, Tracey, Mike / Amanda, Larry, Sandra, Sarah, Vernon, Joe, not discussing church at all, pain, and respect for petitioners. Man, that was a hard time in 2004! Karen thinks I showed genuine love in continuing to talk to people no matter what side they were on - this is true, but it was difficult too.

When I got back to church, I saw all the Daniel people outside ready for a walk. I asked Henry (who was holding the door open) whether he was giving me a ride tomorrow. (I was going to type "riding me," but that just sounds WRONG! :P) Apparently, I'd reminded him about his and Benedict's blood donation this afternoon - I told him that I guessed I should go since it was the last day, and said I'd get a ride. Used the phone to call Michelle L. at home, and she said she could pick me up at 3:30 - whew! (next time, I should close the photocopy room door to cut down on noise, haha) Said hi to Benedict with keys, Danny with a table, Sabrina, and Chris. Stanley showed me an old Membership Covenant from early April: "Free - Help Yourself" was written on the back, which I showed Andrea. I'll have fun with that, haha. Went upstairs to Bible Study, where Chuck did his ear thing again - he is such a crazy goofball! Cindy said that Megan was coming, so we wondered if it would be awkward since we were in Phil's office - Jeremy was confused, so Dylan said it was a long story that we'd tell him later! Hahaha! Dylan himself thought it wouldn't be awkward because Megan's going out with someone else (Andy) now - still, however. Erin and Fidela also showed up; Fids wanted to join the other group, but they were long gone!\

Discussed Debbie (Dylan's girlfriend) knowing Ben (Erin's boyfriend) from Ottawa - Ben's coming next week, so it'll be good to see him! Erin says that both her brothers are coming to Tuesday's dinner: it'll be good to catch up with them! Talked about food, apples, Pho, being a picky eater, popcorn as dinner, worrying about what others think, humility, pride, how you say things, KEEP SMILING, the transition from Daniel to David (mentoring!), Teresa not being able to make it because of Safeway, out-of-date calendars, photocopying, teaching, giving your material to others who could use the help, etc. Afterwards, I talked to Raymond about Scrabble / Benjamin Fellowship / Bible Quiz / cooking / field trips. Dylan, Raymond, and Erin all asked me about the K-Man, heh. (Chuck referred to him as "the C-Man" last week, haha) Said hi to Stanley, who wanted us all to contribute to his $3000 New Guitar Fund - NO WAY! Auntie Rebecca greeted us all, and Stanley had a riddle for her: "What does a grape say when you squeeze it? Nothing, but it might let out a little whine! [wine]"

Told Jeremy about the drunken debauchery book that Harmony had given me; of course I lent it to him! (I remember when Mom asked that we define "debauchery" for her... yikes!) Fidela and Megan made Dragon Ball plans, and asked how I was getting home. Jessica dropped by and discussed stuff with Stanley; after a while, Jon finally came by and collected me since Ivan was giving us a ride home before he went to a party. Talked about their prayer walk being an interesting experience, Skytrain stations, Laura Secord, #9 large, shrimp rolls, Isabel and Julie absconding to go to a movie rather early on, Emily / Sarah / Julie and MISSIONS ON WHEELS (Jeremy should SO do that!), and more. Good times!

Have just seen a rather funny video of Korey's friend Alison's son Jeremy. This 2.5-year old is doing the laundry, and flings clothes in the front-loading machines with a good arm and industrious PASSION! Not that I'm a baseball coach or anything, but you have to see it to laugh! Unfortunately, it's on Facebook - oh well!

Edit: I just got Salmoned again!

[12:10:15] PlugInSalmon: Don't have a cow, man.
[12:10:31] AlenaBrolxFlami: Nice Simpsons reference.
[12:11:09] PlugInSalmon: That's not an answer. :P
[12:11:55] AlenaBrolxFlami: What were you asking me?
[12:12:00] PlugInSalmon: Who you are.
[12:13:04] AlenaBrolxFlami: I didn't get that.
[12:13:14] PlugInSalmon: "And you would be...?"
[12:13:20] AlenaBrolxFlami: [12:10:15] PlugInSalmon: Don't have a cow, man.
[12:13:21] PlugInSalmon: You're also dodging the question. :P
[12:13:58] AlenaBrolxFlami: We've been randomly linked.
[12:14:08] PlugInSalmon: Buh?
[12:14:27] AlenaBrolxFlami: Are you on LJ?
[12:14:32] PlugInSalmon: I am.
[12:14:53] AlenaBrolxFlami: Did you recently update?
[12:14:57] PlugInSalmon: I did.
[12:15:18] AlenaBrolxFlami: We've been linked by a bot.
[12:15:25] PlugInSalmon: Ah.
[12:15:39] PlugInSalmon: Sorry, I get a little twitchy when people IM me out of the blue.
[12:15:48] AlenaBrolxFlami: You see my screen name as something ending in "salmon"
[12:15:55] PlugInSalmon: SquirmySalmon, yes.
[12:15:58] AlenaBrolxFlami: That's all right.
[12:16:09] AlenaBrolxFlami: I see yours as PlugInSalmon.
[12:16:18] AlenaBrolxFlami: Check out the.missing.hat on LJ.
[12:17:28] PlugInSalmon: Huh. Interesting.
[12:18:05] AlenaBrolxFlami: Have you had this experience before?
[12:18:13] PlugInSalmon: Can't say I have, no.
[12:20:06] AlenaBrolxFlami: I've had it happen a few times.
[12:21:32] PlugInSalmon: It's kind of jarring. Is there a way to opt out? I've got nothing against you, it's just I didn't sign up for anything like this, and normally wouldn't. :/
[12:24:27] AlenaBrolxFlami: No worries.
[12:24:34] AlenaBrolxFlami: I don't think there is. It's just... random.

LeAnn Rimes?! / Catboats

Bingo of the night so far:

CATBOATS (84 points) - against Kirsten P.
FONDLERS (62 points) - against Paul H.
WORKADAY (84 points) - against Laura P.
NONACTOR (61 points) - against Emily N.
INSIDERS (61 points) - against Shawnda D.
EQUATION (58 points) - against Alice P.
ESCAROLE (70 points) - against Vivianne L.

Great... now I have LeAnne Rimes' How Do I Live in my head. I blame my sister's iTunes. :P

I should watch to see that Grandma doesn't touch the vegetables that Jon put in the oven, so I've migrated downstairs to do this. He let me know that he took the blue car instead of the bus - good move, if you're running late! Chrissy added me as a friend on Facebook: sweet! Eric H. is on since it's his day off, finally... yay!

Grandma, on this picture of Steph in Denver with Mattias Ohlund and Trevor Linden: "That's Stephanie? Are you sure it's not you?!" Pretty sure!

Hey, I found a picture of my grandma and me (2004) on my mom's computer!

Who CARES if I'm dating outside of my race?! We don't!

Eric and Korey picked me up, and announced we were going to Richmond Sushi - fine by me, since I don't have a secret love affair with Sui Sha Ya in Lansdowne! Discussed the quality of the food, bad people who think Korey doesn't really have a girlfriend, supposed "dirty looks" we were getting from strangers since I was obviously dating a non-Chinese person, kimchi and sashimi being Korey's "favorite" items (meaning NOT), teasing about secret girlfriends / boyfriends, tomorrow's plans (PICK ME UP and we can HANG OUT after lunch!), jokes about tapes and parental grilling, looking at the person who asks you questions, what my dad looks like, repeated gags in PINKY AND THE BRAIN, and Steph's joking about Eric as the third wheel becoming reality. Korey doesn't know how Eric and I can stand some stuff he absolutely hates, but that's what makes people different! He ate a lot of tempura, which is something I can only take so much of - but I did have SOME. There are different degrees of being the third wheel - tonight's events were fine, but sitting somewhere as two people are making out is NOT the best thing ever! Interesting discussion, especially when Eric decided to render the time in Spanish... Korey decided to count in Japanese just for us, haha.

Then we went to Rose Garden Café a bit early, where Eric and I found that it had changed since December 2004. Chinese Eric arrived a bit later, and we all set in to discussing Kamloops / hockey / God's mysterious ways in bringing people together / Fay in Edmonton till the 25th taking care of an 85-year-old. We also talked about the grad banquet, shady Pho, movies (SIMPSONS / RUSH HOUR 3), dessert, Nathan / Jon / Isabel. I suspected that Korey was trying to feed me dessert, which I later confirmed with him - it was FINE since it wasn't a big glob of stuff! We were so tired that white Eric was trying to prop his head up using his bubble tea straw - that HAD to be a good photo opportunity. He should bring his digicam tomorrow, and remember Jon's pan flutes! Good thing he defended my lack of directional sense: I don't drive and don't pay attention much! When I got home, Korey called to see what I was doing.. not much, but we get to hang out more tomorrow! Corey thinks all we get up to is buttsex (NO), and thinks that my obsessive nature will help him get extra points in GUITAR HERO... I wish? Haha. Dan congratulated me on a little thing, and Eric M. thought that it was hard for me to eat one-handed. Well, good for Korey if he's left-handed since I'm not... but I can manage if I don't need both hands for something! (passing plates, drinking from full cups, etc.) It'll be interesting times tomorrow, definitely. Corey signed off by telling us crazy kids to behave ourselves... don't worry, we have and will in future! :P

Tim Tang online riddle game / Screen name by songs meme

Tim Tang riddle game... so frustrating! He's also on to people who post spoiler forums, yikes! Forget it. According to a site out there, he changes the answers all the time. I'm not going to get a Facebook account just so I can see hints!

Screen name by songs meme, taken from Jenn. (fate_envies_us) For a change of pace, I'll be doing this from the prank call CD that Corey sent me in 2005 for Christmas 2004... mainly because there were no songs starting with X on the music DVD!

* Have your music library ready.
* Choose one (1) song from your music library whose title starts with the first letter (or number) of your name. (or screen name)
* Repeat this process with each successive letter (or number) in your name until you run out of letters. (or numbers)
* Post your results.
* BONUS POINTS: Upload your mix.

I'm too lazy to do the Bonus Points.
