I was a bit late meeting Eric, but he said I'd sounded tired on the phone: NO, REALLY?! He joked that I was drunk, asked if I wanted to get tattoos (Steph and Lisa have that covered), wondered if I'd finished MOTHER 1 yet (then said that I was playing DRAGON WARRIOR III one too many times), tested me on PEACHES by POTUSA, said that yesterday's barbecue went pretty well with chicken drumsticks and thighs / raw veggies / watermelon, and said he'd gotten back on Thursday. GOOD THING I MANAGED TO FIX THE ROUTER MYSELF, THEN! I had brought some breakfast biscuits to eat in the car (but forgot water), and he thought they were cookies: close enough, I guess? When we got to church, I talked to Randal about his "nuts" message / waved back at Victor when he said hi / said hi to Jeremy and his parents / officially met Pastor Dan / said hi to Tim, Joshua (whose birthday is today), Keenan, and baby Emma. After service, I talked for a bit to Darren, who's back from Ireland for a month! Talked to Auntie Ying about getting together when Phil leaves, to Auntie Catherine about her father (Mom's attempted guilt trips don't work since I didn't even know he was dead till then! - Auntie Susan said the name wasn't recognizable in the bulletin), said hi to baby Rebecca and her mom Jane, and talked to baby Ayler. He smiled at me and grabbed my finger! ♥ [Harmony told people that the baby loves interacting with others, and babbles all the time!]

Before I went to Toddler Sunday School, I said hi to Benedict, Anita, Amos, and Harrison. Also saw Chung Ming with his wife Ellen: they have a nine-month-old baby girl named Olive! Also saw Dave and Tiffany, who are back in town for a short while - good to see them! Chrystal said hi, so we talked for a bit about Grandma and possible get-togethers; we didn't go see the fireworks since that scene is CRAZY! Said hi to Melia, who has seen puppy Havarti already! I saw Lanie, Quan, Silas, Danny, Anastasia, Hayden, James, Hymn, Natalie, and Ashley at Toddler Sunday School. Talked about toys, dragons in space, drawing, Lego, fake food, caramel popcorn, Chinese / Filipino festivals, and more. After Sunday School, I asked Kevin whether he'd seen Eric; nope! Talked to Andrew and Adam about being tired, my video games, seeing family, and more. Eric came up as I was doing that, and wondered if I'd seen Christon. He was helping to serve food in the fellowship hall for the senior lunch; a phone call later, we were meeting Jon at Pho Thai Son for our own lunch! Talked to Eric about that Native guy I'd seen before Sunday School; apparently, his name is Godwin. Haven't encountered that name in YEARS, man!

PHO THAI SON was interesting! We talked about yesterday's BBQ, Christon spilling iced coffee on us, girl children named Carson (?!), the "Food and Film" Evite (which Jon reminded me of), Jeremy's renovations, intensive French onion soup, weddings, the Olympics, Kent's Kitchen takeout, and more. On the way home, Eric said that we were going to Pastor Bob's on Friday for a Spiritual Care program and potluck dinner - oh, religion! We also learned that Our Lady Peace (4 AM) is adult alternative / classic rock... that's the stuff WE listen to, man! Managed to open my new whiteout, and then started some laundry. Mom wants me to visit Grandma on both Tuesday and Wednesday, too.

Tacky singing / Skits / Tule perverts!

Eric called at 5:45... yup, I was pretty much ready to go! We discussed church, the screwed-up service order, Christon, tomorrow's plans (I'm game if he's gotta cook early), Pastor Bob, what I did today, the Great Banquet parable, his NOT going to Eunice and Eddie's wedding, Euro 2012, Spain beating Italy 4-0, and more on the way to Floata. At the banquet, we sat with Billy / Stella / Tim / Maxine / Chung Yan / Karen I. / Mattias / Marcus / Lanie. Discussed the crazy wedding that Phil and Grace had been to yesterday (fighting as "entertainment"), the very odd Chinese cultural thing of singing and skits [most of which went WAY over our heads since we don't understand!] to say farewell ("we should do our own tacky songs / karaoke IN ENGLISH when Phil leaves, so EVERYONE can understand!"), Eric saying that he might have a Chinese wedding if he decides to marry a Chinese girl if she wants one, job info, summer plans, the Vegas wedding, Benjamin / Noah / Joshua / Emma, baby Ayler, shrimp chips / chicken / soup / celery / tea, shark's fin soup, the Chinatown Night Market, and more. Said hi to Auntie Vivian, Mary, Reigan, Mike K. and Eric T. (who both liked the SILVER BLING necklace), Harrison (who hates Luongo and Schneider - he likes the Bruins), Andrew L., Hannah W. (who's now taller than I am), Victor, and more people.

I spotted Auntie Ying, so had to ask what she was doing on Facebook. Phil told her that she had to learn because then she can see pictures of Micah growing up, haha. Sounds good enough to me - tempt her with grandchild photos! Of course, she's still learning her way around an iPad, and I can't help her with that. Maybe we'll get together after Phil leaves! I also had to update Chrystal on recent events; things seem genuine, so we'll see. The farewell banquet was kind of like a wedding, as people were clinking on their glasses to get Pastor James to give Pastor Rebecca a kiss in front of everyone! (and there were photos in a certain order) When we went up on stage for our photo, I had to ask Jessica L. to help me down! Of course, I thanked her. On the way home, Eric and I discussed FINAL FANTASY / Irish accents / promotion for a TV show called SUITS / monks / knights / thieves / Mario's Gelati people NOT being happy / odd locations for Drunk Driving Counterattack (going INTO Vancouver instead of OUT OF there?!) / tomorrow.



Hockey-related WTF moments tonight, while Eric and I were listening to Team 1040 [FREE AGENCY DAY!] on the way home:

* Wait... why is Detroit in the Western Conference if they're across the river from Windsor?! (Eric says that this is because there are a lot of teams in the Eastern Conference already) Even I know my geography a bit better than that...

* I misheard "Tanner Glass" as "Canner Plax," and wondered just what kind of name THAT was! (I have a definite opinion on names in my spare time :P)

* Upon hearing that the Rangers (?) replaced someone with Aaron Asham (spelling?), I said: "They replaced him with AN AIR MATTRESS?! Nice! That's one of the weirdest sports transactions I've heard of..." Hahaha, poor Eric had to tell me that I was engaging in creative listening yet again!

I must be strong in the midst of various things going on! Grace, Denise, and Tracy sent me an Evite to a double baby shower for Harmony and Jane, which is taking place in about a month on a Sunday... I guess I'll have to play all the games! *sigh* I also learned that I only have to look after Grandma for the 18th and the 19th, since the respite centre found space for her before then. This is good news; I hardly think I'll have a reason to drag my laptop to the townhouse then! Also had some buttermilk pancakes in honor of Mardi Gras / Fat Tuesday, hahaha.

Vanessa got on MSN to invite me to a reservation for late-night sushi (9:30-ish) with Wayne on Friday. They'll pick me up, too. That actually does sound good from a money and time standpoint, especially with the weekly tradition and the hockey game in mind! Of course, I thanked her for the invite. Gives me yet another excuse to not make it out to Fellowship, which means I should tell Eric at some point. Of course, another couple will be coming - meh, I can deal. :D


I had a weird dream which started out with my family being in Paris and inside the Eiffel Tower. There were all these mini souvenirs just lying around on the beige floors, and we were tempted to take some since they were various representations of the tower in various forms. We almost took a couple, but ultimately decided not to since we didn't want to appear like thieves. Upon exiting the tower, we were told to go down a ramp on the bottom floor which would spit us out into the parking lot. I couldn't do it, so Jon (looking as he did when he was three years old) and Grandma (in a mini naked form - I don't want to know!) decided to go with me as I ran into some black mesh separator, as seen on a screen by an elevator. We went flying off the mesh, and onto the bottom floor near escalators.

After that, I saw Eric M. out on a bench - he wanted to join us, and we had no problem with that. Grandma wanted to buy things from an outdoor supermarket, so we took her there. All the freezers and bags were outside, while some bread and such was inside. We were about to select a bunch of items when we were stopped by some workers with green aprons. They said that we weren't allowed to bring any naked people onto the premises, even if they were really tiny. We tried to argue with the workers, but to no avail. So then we met up with Jen in the store's underground parking lot, which is another time inconsistency - we didn't meet her until 2000! Dad told Mom to just go home while he took me, Eric, Jen, and Jon to the movies.

Then we went to the parking lot, which had fast-moving white cars and white lanes all over the place. We went to another crowded store which apparently was just one room, full of frozen food from Safeway. This was apparently going to be our dinner, which would be fine since the movie (something about a DARK KNIGHT prequel? TIME INCONSISTENCY!) started at 7:30. However, I noticed a sign saying that we'd be locked in the room at 7:16 even if people hadn't finished paying for / selecting the food. This was supposedly to preserve the food's integrity, despite it all being in freezers! The store clerks told us not to worry about it, so we turned our attention to selecting various bags and packages.

Finally, we made our way to the checkout line. Tim, Maxine, Joshua, and Keenan were there also. (Emma wasn't born yet in the dream, but the other two shouldn't have been there with the time!) They said hi, and gave me my birthday presents: a foam puzzle, a Matthew Good CD, and more merchandise. For some reason, I had to pay for those! The dream ended when we left the store with lots of food. WEIRD AND CRAZY! Not even sure what the triggers would be for this one, unless it was seeing some DARK KNIGHT RISES movie promo!

After I replied to Mandy's email, I went out to mail her birthday card / the bus pass application. Went to Shoppers Drug Mart proper to get on-sale passion fruit and lemon ginger Côte d'Or chocolate bars, and on-sale Cadbury almond and fruit / nut chocolate bars... I had to replace what the vile fiend ruined, after all. (credit for that name goes to Glen / Izzy, haha) While I was there, I also got Balea refreshing moisture cucumber body wash and on-sale Irish Spring soap x6. Got a new on-sale (unexpected!) bath mat and on-sale panties at Sears... then was off to London Drugs to get on-sale Tim's jalapeno / original chips, on-sale modern CFL light bulbs, and on-sale rice crackers. When I got home and started laundry, I stored everything in my room before getting the cat lamp from my table to use in my room for now; typing in the dark gets OLD and ANNOYING!

Decided to wish Karen Choo a happy birthday via email, heh. Jon emailed us an update on Paul, and thinks we can go out to eat later. Hey, it's all good if we can combine cheering him up with MY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION! Hahahaha... I'm not evil, and won't think that the apartment fire needed to time itself better! Then Eric called at 6:15 to say he was coming in ten minutes; that earned him a rather piercing "You WHAT?!?!?!?!" He joked that he thought his phone just broke, and said that he was kidding - "I just wanted to remind you that it's Friday." Guess I had to sit through a boring program AGAIN to get to the good parts! (reminds me of Uncle Hansel lecturing us about going to Fellowship just to get to karaoke, hahaha)

When Eric DID get here, I basically spent the whole ride over ranting about how Randal does NOT use his brain! However, I did pay Eric back for the Pho a couple weekends prior; later, I paid Jon back for the sausages and such at that time. Eric might go to Nathan's thing because he suggested Phnom Penh and the Alibi Room - CHINATOWN AGAIN ON TOP OF A STUPIDLY LONG DAY?! Oh well... got to Fellowship late, and I had to focus on Eric's shoes because then I wouldn't look up / in the wrong direction and see Mr. Creep in my line of vision! (when I told Eric this later, he was like "HELP ME...") I did listen to Tim's opinions on stuff in the ESC... but tuned out when Randal described himself as "sexy." I DON'T THINK SO! Connie, Paul, and I also discussed the fire and personal issues. Told Auntie Rebecca that I'd try to bus to AWANA, but that was before confirming things with Paul for tomorrow - guess I'll call her in her meetings if I get up at 2:30 again, hahaha. She'll understand that it's an emergency situation, and appreciate my practicing hospitality, haha!

After the program, we talked about Paul / charity / laundry / stinky stuff / jobs / rent / Uncle Eugene. Christon asked me to pick a place - I'm terrible at that, but I was fine with THE FOUNDATION! We finally forced Paul to accept Deb and Dylan's offer of hospitality, and mine as well. As I told Eric, I was doing the same thing two years ago in inviting a man to stay in my abode! He thought I was worried about Paul staying for six months, and reassured me that he didn't think that would happen. I wasn't thinking about that at all, since Paul DID say he didn't want to be a burden on anyone, and really appreciated everything! (Phil's going to let him speak on Sunday, so I guess I shouldn't sleep in, hahaha)

At the restaurant, we talked about tonight's meeting / shelters / stinky stuff / arrangements / age jokes / beer / nachos / appetizers / Lesley / Molly / the Daniel Fellowship / phone numbers / the loud place / my "never" answering the phone / a Bible verse FB application / my piercing yell of "YOU WHAT?!" / SERVANTS / busing / repetitive rap. On the way home, Eric said he'd give the pop and chips back on Sunday - another reason to not sleep in, haha. He bugged me with Christmas carols, Big Sugar's BUTTERBALL, and more just because it was past midnight. UGH! Yeah, I also bugged him about missing my birthday event! Corey's telling me on Skype that I'm not under the hill yet, hahaha. Noticed that Sonya has undeleted her FB.

Turns out Mom called me to say Grandma was having a temper tantrum and refused to go out today. Fine by me - more time for games and shopping at London Drugs for the items I want MYSELF instead of Mom's picking it out for me with conditions! UGH! Good thing I didn't bus over to the townhouse, otherwise I'd have wasted more time! I went to London Drugs a bit later to buy pads, on-sale Tim's jalapeno chips, and on-sale dark chocolate brownies. Saw Michael Ho's mom on the bus, too! Then I went to the mall and wasted a lot of time looking at the selection of on-sale knapsacks at Sears, which definitely didn't suit my needs... also encountered a bunch of hyper kids, but it's all good! Went to Bentley's instead to get this Adidas duffle bag; yes, I know they're for exercise essentials, but I can always return the thing if it doesn't work well in practice at church tomorrow! Had a strawberry bubble tea at Big Orange while I was out, hah. Got home and threw a bunch of things away, and also decided to give these red / blue / grey Staples notebooks to the Mak kids.

Jon sent us an email saying there'd be a Sunday Dinner to celebrate Eric's 30th birthday - fine, I guess I'll go, hahaha. One thing I *won't* go to is Bible Study tonight; last time, I was totally bored and couldn't wait to get home! Mom and Dad picked me up late (after I answered Mandy's email in lieu of catching up), but they had Chinese sausage and a Lindt chocolate for me - still, though. We went to Empire Seafood plaza to go to Leung Kee: I had pancreas, lungs, tripe, and other assorted organ meat with noodles for lunch. Not so sure I'll have pancreas again knowingly, haha. Then I had to wait around for Mom to buy some stuff before we FINALLY went to the glasses store at Parker Place, where Mom proceeded to tell the old glasses guy about my prematurity - IS THAT REALLY VITAL INFORMATION?! She even thought I had to be reminded to thank him afterwards - I'm old enough not to be reminded! *grumble*

The repair was free, but of course Mom was Asian about it. She was also Asian about lunch, saying that at least we didn't have to tip the food court places! I know that, but would never have said so out loud! After getting some buns from the bakery and plums from the grocery store, we were off to London Drugs. She disappointed me by not getting Tim's jalapeno chips because they weren't as cheap as the Hardbite chips, which were also on sale. Oh well, I'll have to go back there later tonight or tomorrow and get that along with dark chocolate brownies before the sale runs out! Then again, I said I'd hang out with Grandma tomorrow; maybe she can get them for me, especially since she apparently can have chips for breakfast now since she really likes them! Thank goodness I was home before my FFAF weekly tradition, and barely had enough time to catch up and blog before 4!

I've looked at all these comments about people who hate certain spellings, pronunciations, and strategic placings. I just don't know what to think. When my wife and I had our first daughter, I was lucky enough to name her after a word I fell in love with from middle school. Terra was the word, but I chose not to go with the spelling, and "Tara" didn't appeal to me. I chose Taira, and my wife chose Rose for her middle name. "A flower of the earth."

My second daughter, blessed be, was a bit tougher. Many months went by, and finally, at Thanksgiving dinner, my mother suggested a name from Pippi Longstocking. With a few changes, we came up with Onika Marie. ... It's what special about these names that keep them alive. Would we ever think about changing their names? Not in a heartbeat. That'll be their decision in the future. We're just a guiding light.

Look at that name. Oleo. Look at it and try not to think of cookies. Try really hard. (I think this is a focused visualization technique used by Weight Watchers.)

Of course, if you're older or Southern, naming your kid Oleo is the same as naming them Land o'Lakes or Parkay, so there's no way to avoid your food issues, even if you wanted to.
