Debbie, possibly needing a new microwave (research!), Chrystal, presents, and deliveries

Someone named Debbie Farrington added me on Facebook. I don't know her, so I'll mark the request as just that, haha. I'm also researching microwaves, since I'm almost certain that my current one is losing power. The bowls of soup that I've heated up recently take three minutes instead of two to get up to a good heat level, and even then, it's not holding in the heat as well as I'd like. The pot pie I heated up SHOULD be all over the plate if I heat it up for three minutes, but it's not! Definitely going for a known brand, and one that's at least 1000 kW for sure! Although I should note that it successfully heated up another pot pie, but I'm not sure if it's because I defrosted it for seven minutes instead of six beforehand.

Called Auntie Ying, who appreciated it. She shared her concern for Chrystal with me: seems she wants me to pray for her sister-in-law and husband, along with Chrystal. I told her that Chrystal's disorder isn't something you just recover from, like my cold this week. If only she had access to online forum support! She doesn't know how to use a computer, though. She felt bad that she was doing all the talking, but I grew used to that with someone else, haha. I brought up the idea of buying birthday cards and gifts for the kids, since I know Amanda's birthday is coming up soon. She was amenable to that idea, and will pay me back for Amanda's gift - now, what to buy for a six-year-old girl that likes drawing?! Hmm. At least she said that she'll bring a handheld mirror - I need to get one of those, since mine from Grandma got STOLEN! (plus a new comb or two) Ended the call at midnight - woohoo!

The OK Cupid inbox gets activity after sixteen months?!

Hmm. I got a message in my OK Cupid inbox, which hasn't seen any activity since late September 2006! This guy lives in Atlanta, and thinks I look cute. Well, I am in a relationship now, and 2368 miles would be way too long-distance for me in any event! o_O Even if it weren't for those factors, I would NEVER answer a communication titled "An intimate message" and calling me "dear" within the body! Never mind all these "secret admirers" that I seem to have on MyYearbook, which I haven't actively used in ages! Oh well. :P

I've also done a "3-1" twice in the past twelve hours. Oh well, at least I didn't need to do any double cleansings! I also got another weird phone call from Ontario: 416-224-8936 definitely isn't familiar to me!

Banana-filled chocolate... YAY!

Today's mail brought a great surprise! I got a Disney Christmas card from Samara (mystic_notions) - and also a letter, Hello Kitty / butterfly / happy face stickers, seven foreign-language bookmarks / banana-filled chocolate Santa from Savina (bodha) in Austria - SO BLESSED! Brian (tbone) got my Christmas card and postcard over the weekend, too - sweet!

Bitter melon cheesecake? Say it ain't so!

I am so sad. Not sure what to do... I also believe I've run out of strength. I think I'll just be subdued.

Jon's sent out something for his birthday dinner - I can't believe I'm going to eat at Jeremy's three weeks out of four, which is pretty cool. :D

So it's my birthday this coming Sunday. My typical response to this is to go out and eat at a restaurant somewhere. However, the table is usually so long that it's difficult for people to chat with each other. That, and eating out can be expensive.

So this year, we're celebrating my birthday by having the Sunday dinner to end all Sunday dinners. Well, we won't be eating foie gras or abalone or anything that pricey, but hopefully we can have a whole bunch of people over at Jeremy's house to enjoy some good home-cooked food. Those of you who've had Jer's cooking know that it's pretty quality, sometimes eclectic, and always tasty. We haven't decided what yet to make, but we're brainstorming and would love any suggestions. Here's a few already:

curry (that's pretty generic since you can make a million different varieties)
some seasonal vegetable dish. Maybe more squashes and yam fries
soup?
some meat dish
bitter melon cheesecake
durian delight topped with stinky tofu and natto.

On top of the food that we're going to make I'm also enlisting Christon to make his yummy udon dish and Nathan to make some wacky salad dressing with whatever happens to be in the fridge. So expect a kimchi apple cider vinegar homebrew concoction of some sort. Maybe we can also have someone in charge to do drinks as well.

Here's the catch: Eating at home tends to be pretty affordable. Eating out... well, not always, unless your destination is Bon's. We're going to split the costs by charging everyone $15 up front to cover the costs of the ingredients. The rest of the $ will be given to a worthy cause somewhere, maybe to an organization that's situated in the Downtown Eastside so you can certainly donate more than $15 if you wish. On top of that, Jer and I will try to make sure that our food is local, seasonal, and bought from a local grocery store. So you can feel good about what we're eating on many accounts.

Ah, Nathan's wacky salad dressing... YAY! Not so sure about the bitter melon cheesecake and the durian topped with stinky tofu and natto, but it IS the birthday boy's choice... *raised eyebrow*

What Monarch Are You?
Henry VIII
Henry VIII
You are impulsive, temperamental, and autocratic. You make strong decisions based on your gut reactions. You are true to your friends, but if they betray you in the slightest way, then they're OUT. You like being in a monogamous relationship, but if you feel betrayed, you will tear apart the person that hurt you. You are brilliant! But impulsive. Work on the impulsive streak, and continue being brilliant!

Better upgrades, dream of fighting with my mom, CLOCK hint list

At last, I think I'm pretty much all better now! Sure, I still have a slight bit of nasal congestion and a slight cough, but the hot showers / warm fluids / rest did me a lot of good. Heck, I even think I sound quasi-normal enough to talk to people on the phone - no more sounding like a sexy frog for me! It'll be up to the people I know best to make that determination for themselves - perhaps I'll test it out later! I can also tell I'm better because I have my biting humor back! ("You know what is cool?" "A crisp fall day with the leaves crunching underfoot as you walk!" Haha.) It was super that I let Henry know about my state of health a couple nights ago, haha - I didn't have any missed calls on my phone when I woke up, heh. I just hope I'm not building up a tolerance to certain things, since that would be BAD! Either that, or I'm turning into an insomniac! (aiya!)

Last night, I decided to upgrade Linux / Ubuntu from "Feisty Fawn 7.04" to "Gutsy Gibbon 7.10" on Corey's advice. In the end stages, the Firefox browser window decided to disappear on me twice. I decided to leave well enough alone, since I was checking My Yearbook: it has way too much shiny stuff on it! (voting classmates for "Most Active Bowels" (ew?), Battles, Bulletins, Messages, Pictures, Blinkies, etc.) By the time I restarted the computer, I fussed about with limited customization, then freaked out since GAIM was gone! Then I Googled my problem, and found that it was renamed to Pidgin Instant Messenger. Interesting name, but at least it wasn't GONE like I'd feared. Corey hadn't heard about the new name, so he wouldn't have been able to help me in any event. I told him that I wondered about certain things (good thing I'll always have a friend in certain people!), and he took things to a new humorous level - YAY! ("Chex mix... *salmon-slaps you*" "You'll still sit here and type to me even if your computer explodes, since it's been proven in that one computer journal from 2001. Look up the Fronzel-Equiblax theory, which I can make exist on Wikipedia as solid evidence... um, I mean, it DOES exist on there as solid evidence!" Hahaha, too amusing!) I've also just found out that when Korey types "hehe" to me in the Pidgin message window, I see a giant laughing head graphic followed by an E. Must be the Hylke Bons emoticons, haha.

When I finally did get to sleeping, I dreamt that I had to physically fight with my mother over a variety of things... arm-wrestling was included, as well as her stabbing me with the broken pieces of the shower wall! (which looked exactly like they do on my sink) Dylan managed to wrestle her away from me, and we joined a procession of people going up some stairs to watch a play from the balcony - some people were using a janitor's closet as a smoking room. I have no idea where that dream came from, to be honest!

Here is a list of amusing "hints" in the CLOCK solitaire card game. The game is easy, in that you just have to arrange the cards like the numbers on an analog clock. Since I'm always one for the weird humor, here's the list!

1. If you're ever lost and alone in the woods, hug a tree.
2. I could sure use a backrub right about now...
3. Monitors won't give you Vitamin D, but sunlight will.
4. Fishing wire makes bad dental floss.
5. Look both ways before you cross the street.
6. Tourniquets are not recommended unless in the direst emergency.
7. Consistency is key.
8. Just because a crosswalk looks like a hopscotch board doesn't mean it is one.
9. Odessa is a better game. Really.
10. Have you read the help file?
11. When without a stapler, a staple and a ruler will work.

Bulletin spam, KFC pot pie, my life's grade

Okay, so I'm REALLY behind in checking my Zenhex profile / Myspace page. My only friend on Zenhex (some guy from Colorado) sent me a cute-looking online gingerbread cookie on Christmas Eve, and I just got around to checking it NOW. Whoa. As for Myspace, David (omni_sinrilus) sent his thanks on Jan. 5 for my birthday wish a few days earlier... at least he really appreciates it, and he's US legal now too! Gotta check my bulletins... a certain band loves hogging bulletin space, and is kinda unrepentant about certain ones being sent every two minutes occasionally. Sometimes it IS once every 45 minutes to an hour like they claim, but people DO go back through their bulletins... ugh! The statistics would be overwhelmingly against my being the only person in all of Myspace land who does that, so I'm sure I have company! I know and can understand that they need to get the word out about things, but it gets annoying when you have to go back through pages of the same one reposted VERY frequently! Now, it's bedtime... I need to stop staying up so late!

KFC POT PIE

Due to the waste of chicken in the restaurants, the Colonel had to create a recipe to help use the chicken that was unable to be sold. See, chicken could only sit and be sold for 2 hours after it was fried. So he devised the potpie recipe.

2 potatoes peeled and cooked
2/3 cup frozen peas
2 cans cream of chicken soup
2 carrots peeled and cooked
2 tablespoons frozen onion
2 cups of cooked chicken
dash of salt and pepper and MSG

In a bowl, combine all cooked vegetables and chicken. Add the cream of chicken soup and seasoning. The mixture should be thick, but not too thick. If the mixture is too thick, add some milk to the mixture. Scoop the mixture into individual pie pans. Use the biscuit recipe to make the crust. Roll out the dough thin and place on top, then brush with butter. Bake in a 375°F oven for 15 to 25 minutes, or until it is heated through and the crust is golden brown.

I'm currently in the process of copying all my Yahoo contacts over to my Gmail address book. Wish I saved that email I wrote to Corey a long time ago when he practically demanded that I write him six pages of why he rocked so much... maybe he still has it somewhere, so I'll ask him later. Speaking of death (or almost), I nearly fell while slipping on the carpet under my bathroom sink. I swear that's how I'll actually die. :P

Today's Unlikely Yet Truly Morbid Fact!

On May 8, 1936, Ralph Neves' life was cut tragically short at Bay Meadows Racecourse, near San Francisco, California. The 19-year-old jockey was coming into the final stretch of the third race of the day when his horse, Fannikins, tripped. She and her rider crashed through the wooden fence. Fannikins was unharmed, but Neves, who had not only broken his own mount's fall, but had also been trampled by four other horses, was dead. The track physician, assisted by two doctors who had come down from the stands when they saw Neves fall, loaded the body into an ambulance, and the race announcer called for a moment of silence. But the shocked, grieving spectators had underestimated Neves.

Doctors at the hospital did everything they could think of to revive Neves, but to no avail. By the time his friend Dr. Horace Stevens arrived, he had already been toe-tagged and sent to the morgue. Stevens, though, was not quite ready to give up. He administered a shot of adrenaline directly into Neves' heart. It had no effect. Sadly, he replaced the white sheet that covered his friend's lifeless body, and left him there. Had he waited just a few more minutes, he would have witnessed a miracle. The dead jockey arose from the chilly slab, shirtless, bloodied, shrouded in the morgue sheet and wearing a single boot. He staggered out of the hospital and hailed a cab to take him back to the racetrack.

Pandemonium broke out as Neves sprinted past the grandstand at Bay Meadows, half-dressed and still trailing his toe tag. "At one point," he said later, "I think everyone on the damn track was chasing me." He fought his way through the crowd and burst into the jockeys' room, where his colleagues were conducting a collection for his widow. She fainted at the sight of her newly resurrected husband, standing in the doorway demanding to be allowed to ride.

He insisted that he didn't feel dead, but the stewards still refused to let him compete again that day. The following day, though, he rode five winners and claimed the meet's top prize -- a $500 watch donated by Bing Crosby.

Neves' dramatic recovery was typical of Neves at Santa Anita "The Portuguese Pepperpot," a man whom fellow jockey Charlie Whittington once described as "wilder than a peach orchard boar." Neves rode for 28 more years, racking up nearly 4,000 wins on more than 25,000 horses. In 1960, he was inducted into the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame. He died in his sleep in 1995, at the age of 79. He did not rise again.

I made a serial killer who killed people (even children) by luring them into his "castle" and then taking the door away from them. They starved, drowned, and were scared "to death" by ghosts. Cherry Garcia, SLB, ignoring my wishes, quizzes

I've discovered I don't like Cherry Garcia as much as the ice creams with crunch and doughy things in them. Don't get me wrong, it's good... just not my ultimate fave. :D

Eric told me that the SLB thing would be Sunday unless Eunice can't make it. Then don't be surprised if I don't show up because I'm sleeping! (dude, I need my sleep on Sundays...) He told me not to "bang the home row"... that's how I keyboard smash, so put that in your pipe and smoke it! In an email, he wants us to reply directly to him so he can process the information and send out mass emails. Uh yeah... some of us LIKE having control over the contents of our email boxes! I like this kind of spam, but I can understand his reasoning. Still, I think mass emails do equal a flood... but "my apologies to this flood of emails" doesn't make sense unless he IS apologizing to the emails. I find this highly unlikely, and think he meant "FOR" the flood of emails. Mega-points on a word, another hatting, quizzes on Green Day / darkness / eyes / more!

I just got 11,500 points on the word "pirate" in Bookworm! This was because I used one blue sapphire, two green tiles, and two yellow tiles in its construction. That's right, folks: only one regular tile was used! o_O

I should note that I also once got 12,000 points for the word "barre" in a recent game. However, I don't recall what combination of tiles got me that high a word score...

While I was in the shower just now, I got hit by the "missing hat bot" again. This time, it was cyberhat2000. Strange, since I hadn't recently updated my LJ...

[20:09:04] cyberhat2000: i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?
[20:09:28] cyberhat2000: ok????
[20:11:38] cyberhat2000: and who are you?
[20:32:47] AlenaBrolxFlami: I think we've both just gotten hatted...
[20:32:54] AlenaBrolxFlami: look it up on Wiki or LJ..
[20:33:03] AlenaBrolxFlami: it's a bot that connects two random LJ users

That was no fun, compared to recent conversations in the hat bot community. :P

Nothing is really private, is it? / Smileys

I thought I'd made a decision for good, but looking at a certain message, I'm not so sure anymore. Am I supposed to feel bad that someone figured out what the post was about? I have no idea... it's not like I haven't been venting here and elsewhere for the past week! I did think of asking them what it was about, but that was after I decided to take a break. Maybe it'll need to be extended. *sigh*

If anyone out there knows of any quirky message boards, I'll be glad to hear any suggestions. :D (who knows... maybe it's time to check out the Zenhex Forums more)

Hey, here's a cool list of smileys! I may snag a bunch for Photobucket. :D

So again: DOWN WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT!

Content of her PM for reference:

I am sorry you got so upset with us putting the word in the filter, but we did try to gently tell you that we really didn't like the turn of phrase and you basically told us to shove it because you did like it...... so, we did what management does in these push me push you situations and we pulled rank.
It wasn't nice, but your attitude about our feelings wasn't very nice either.

I'm glad you decided to stay, and I really am sorry it upset you. I wish we could have resolved it without getting either of us upset.

You know, you can always vent to me in a PM. You are allowed to disagree with Steve and I, just not openly on the board if you intend to be rude, you have to save rude for PM's You could have said how angry you were in a PM though. I would have understood your being upset about it. I would have also explained our position a bit more if you had come to us and asked about it.

It's not "You are allowed to disagree with Steve and I" anyhow... it's "You are allowed to disagree with Steve and me"! (I don't think "Steve and myself" sounds good in that context :P) Yeah, yeah... leave it to me to be picky about the grammar of such a conciliatory-sounding message! The sign of a true grammar whore, methinks....

Half of me is sure that she's just saying that because she's the admin and wants everything to be hunky-dory. The other half of me is sure that she means what she says there... eh, me dunno. I'll eventually work on formulating a reply later when I figure it out, heh. I thought I was doing a good job of not being rude, and instead disappearing for a time to think about things. Then again, I can't control other people's reactions to this! Maybe I'm still in trouble? Eep, I hope not!

SLB reservations changed, Myspace messages, food, quizzes

Steph sent an email to the SLB folk to say that the reservation got changed to 7:30.. no worries, I'll just leave at around 7 instead of half an hour earlier! Edwin was included this time for some reason, and she wondered if he'd like to come along, hehe. Steph, Brian, Nathan, Eric, Danielle, Eddie, Eunice, Jeremy and I can always use one more person to indoctrinate into the ways of the SLB!

I now have four unread messages on Myspace. I keep telling myself I'll get around to them later, but I guess there's no time like the present, heh. Hey, my GJ friend Jeremy's said that this is where he's been... sounds good to me! Speaking of journal friends being on Myspace, I really ought to hunt up David S. (omni_sinrilus) on there, heh. Can't be THAT hard, haha. I've also got two invites to read some guy's (Ross Gale) blog: since his command of typed English seems to be okay, I'll subscribe to it.

Oooh, the last one is a creepy thing notable for its Netspeak (horror!) and a creepy "love message":

Just got to ur profile & its all interesting,
if u are real 4 what you said about urself, l will love to know more of you personally, well am mr nathaniel akinniyi sunday, my email address :afenih@yahoo.com, akinnets@hotmail.com.u can get me on this yahoo id and my mobile/home phone no. is 2348060422820/2348022881991,horny pls get back to me soon next.
pls would you be kind enough to add me to ur yahoo messenger list for chat, even hotmailchat is welcome, thanks.
if u care to give me ur no. its ok by me;thanks.
this is my love present to u:

The treasure found in loving you can,t be counted but share again and again. The beautiful ways of your love were totally unknown to me and the magic of your present in my life was unaware of,before I met you and I found,I hope love keeps us together now and always chosen one
hear u soon & bye 4 now !

Needless to say, I'm not going to respond to that one. I do NOT give random people my number just like that, especially people who can't even express themselves properly. I haven't even UPDATED my profile since I joined on Danielle's birthday! (which probably means I should update now before it crashes my browser, haha)

Uh, yeah... I don't think so! I also have OK Cupid IMs... eep, haha.

I finished my mango gummies, and I'm eating lasagna for lunch... that's some good stuff! :D

You Are Beef

You're big, burly, and maybe even a little stinky. And no one's going to come between you and a good steak.

No Pants Day, Myspace, stupid guilt dreams, Minnesota facts, quizzes

Today is NO PANTS DAY!!! I won't be "celebrating" it for very long, haha. There's no way I'm going to dinner with no pants on, kthx. :P

I've finally had to bite the bullet and join Myspace. :( I can't access "the newest Shiny Blogthings" if I don't. Sigh... at least I won't be spelling / grammar-challenged like most of the people are there, it seems.

I hate my brain and my subconscious. First, I dreamed about watching doomed children being pushed to their death in little carts: they were stuffed in these carts, and somehow knew what was happening to them. :( My siblings, Joey, and Emily were in the dream with me and viewing this on TV.. my dad told us that it was because their lives had lacked miracles, and there was no other choice. =/ I feel guilty for even having this dream... I'd never do that or watch it happen to kids! (or even wish for it!) Then I woke up with Here Comes Santa Claus in my head... it's not even near Christmas! *grumble*

Before in the dream, my parents had told us to clean up since they would be going out for dinner somewhere: Joey and Emily would pick my siblings up to go to school (?!), and Veronica and Ron would pick ME up to go to school. So we started cleaning up and were very surprised when we heard our dad asking what were doing: turns out it was 2 AM. No wonder nobody was home when we tried to get rides! Joey and Emily came over and then had to watch that depressing TV show with us... what the heck is WRONG with my brain?

At least now I have some time before I go out for the Cactus Club to get the song and dream out of my head! Gah!

This page of Minnesota facts (hello, !) reminds me of when the Dallas Stars were the Minnesota North Stars, and of this song that we had to play in Band. Appropriately enough, it was titled Minnesota North Star. Ah, the memories... :D
