Apparently, the lemon-lime meringue pie looked like "nacho chips with frosting" to my sleep-deprived mind. GO FIGURE! I met Vanessa at the clinic, and then we were off to the mall so she could spend a fortune on stuff at Bath & Body Works (lots of smelly candles like pumpkin / lemon gelato / fresh lemon!) and Sephora (Fat Girl lotion?) - it was pretty busy since it was lunchtime! She vented about work (selfish people and drugs), how she'd be glad to leave here on Tuesday, drivers, and more. We also discussed homemade chili, Teunis, Krista, Kaili, Alicia, Scott, exes, priorities, inappropriate stuff, the lunch special at Specialty Chicken and Wonton House, cuttlefish balls, beef, iced coffee, Wayne, Newfoundland wine, homebrew, the liquor store, jam / bath mats / pitchers / Daim (like Skor candy) / Maynard's Swedish fish / a little blond kid named Mattias at Ikea / other things. It was certainly fun! Got home to find out that some random person had requested to add me to Facebook - NO!

Dream: Baby Cory crying in ice / Planning a lie / Friday Five on appearance

Had a dream that involved it being cold and icy outside a fairly large cabin, where Helen K. had to go somewhere. She left her baby Cory in my charge, but didn't say where her other son Nicholas was! Baby was all right, except when he started crying a LOT and wanting to crawl in between rows of seats. Then we gave him baby crackers and coddled him - things were FINE then! Not sure why I had it, haha... I just saw Helen and Cory on Sunday, but my subconscious can be weird. (yes, we were discussing extreme cold yesterday, but still...)

Kaitlin left belated birthday wishes on my wall; how sweet. Decided to do some laundry today, too. Since Eric is going from home today (as per yesterday), then that should be fine if Teunis also wants to go. For Sunday and church (if he wants to go), I figure I'll just lie to my parents tomorrow about having Eric drive us, but I should clear it with him tonight first. Hope he remembers if he has anything to do on Sunday morning, haha! Trust me, lying to my parents is better than having them freak out in this instance. :P

Dream of butterscotch lollipops / Random Friday Five

Unknowing twins marry each other: A set of British twins who were separated at birth went on to marry each other without realizing they were related. I love these weird stories. :D

Last night, I advised Eric of my dentist appointment / Chapters / Pho plans before Fellowship. Then I called Helen to confirm that we were still on for Frances' baby shower tomorrow - of course she'll come with her son Nicholas. All I have to do is go to bed early, and come out when she calls from the car... I don't expect her to leave a two-year-old alone in there when she shouldn't!

Jon's latest Sunday dinner email: "The latest installment of our Sunday dinner will take place at Jeremy's house (yet again), and we'll be enjoying a variety of foods: hummus, baba ganoush, bean salad, squash (maybe), maybe some stew of some sort.... we'll see... if you have any suggestions, let us know. Also, let us know if you can make it. School has yet to get very busy, so I won't accept any schoolwork excuses. :) P.S. If someone could bring a fairly sweet dessert, that'd be great! We'll be pairing it with a barley wine. Yum....." I guess I'm in for the dessert even if that means buying it on Sunday afternoon, which really means I need to cash that cheque TODAY before I go to Fellowship!


I had a weird dream last night:

* My friends and I were around the Broadmoor Mall area - Benedict noticed that the blue building near the 7-11 was now a bright yellow, and that there was a Steveston fish & chips place with British blue curly font and the Union Jack right by the 7-11.

* Then we went to Broadmoor Mall to go to the bank; Benedict wanted to be in one of the mall wheelchairs, so we decided to push him. We balked when he said that he wanted us to push him down the (not-very-steep) escalator that served as a ramp, but he insisted that he wouldn't get hurt. So with much misgiving, we did - he was right, and flashed us a grin as we pushed him into the bank. Then we went to look for rings... that went all kinds of awry!

* Afterwards, we all had to attend the last day of school in a big green field. There were lots of people around on this sunny day, and younger kids played on the nearby playground. A Chinese guy who was in a light blue T-shirt with glasses asked to lie down by me. I didn't see the harm in it, so everyone sat through a bunch of speeches. When Sheena walked by, the guy said something about how her glasses had big lenses. I tried asking her for her glasses, but she pulled them away from me in demur.

* The principal made an Alice Cooper School's Out joke, and further joked that he'd only be letting us out for the next 26 minutes, which was the length of time normally left till the lunch break ended. I suddenly realized that all the songs I'd listened to were really old, and kept getting older with every year. (Take That, If I Could Be That, Bootsauce, classic rock songs, etc.)

* Then we all went to celebrate in the convention centre food court - yup, the place where we eat dinner every year just before Missions Fest! Jackie came over and hugged me, and asked how Korey was - I told her that he was just fine, and would enjoy meeting her because of her vibrancy and music knowledge! Then I noticed my sister with a group of her friends - she offered me a butterscotch lollipop, which I gladly took.

* I talked to Kevin for a bit, and then noticed that Randal was in the midst of the group. Rather than create a scene, I decided to withdraw quietly from them. I saw a whole tin of those butterscotch lollies near the entrance, so I took quite a few! Margaret L. saw me and decided to take some too. We then watched various people destroying their schoolwork in the centre of the atrium - good times!


Not sure why I had this dream, but it was all right. Maybe I've been thinking about how I might get to Missions Fest this year, but I don't think I'll be able to. Guess we'll see, since there ARE still two weeks before the actual event! Last year (2007) was the first time I'd made it out since 2004, since I couldn't go in 2005 or 2006 because of Eric's work and such. I was grateful for a certain person's offer then, of course. Now I know who my true friends are, and will lean on them even more!

Arby's Sauce

Although the beef sandwiches from Arby's would be very hard to duplicate since they are made from specially-processed beef hunks, thinly sliced, this fast food chain's barbecue sauce can be cloned easily. Now you can whip up this slightly tangy sauce to put on your own homemade sandwich creations, even barbecued ribs or chicken.

1 cup ketchup
2 teaspoons water
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco pepper sauce

1. Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce begins to boil in 5 to 10 minutes.
2. Remove the sauce from the heat. Cover and allow to cool.
3. Pour into a covered container for storage in your refrigerator. Keeps for a month or two. Makes 1 cup.

Yeah, I know I probably update too much when I should probably be trying to sleep. But if I try sleeping now, then I might very well REALLY oversleep... not good! Besides, I'm making up for the lack of posts which will be apparent over this weekend, so you should be happy! (... yeah, I dunno how that works either... shut up, I've only had like 4 hours of sleep!)


Friday Five on Names

1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain. Yes, sort of. My mom thought it would be a good idea to name me Leslie, even after her brother married someone with the same name! She kinda liked the name already before that, to be fair. But still... that shows a seeming lack of creativity / imagination on her part, I sometimes think.


2. Do you have your children's names picked out already? If so, is there any significance? Yeah, I do to a certain extent. Tatiana, since I like the story of the Romanov duchesses and all that Russian stuff... I knew two sisters named Henrieta and Kristina Paukov in high school, and met their younger sister Tatiana and younger brother Laci at the public pool once.

Sebastian, since I once met this kid with that name in elementary school, and liked the name. James, since it seems to be a classic, and I like those. Roanna, since I knew someone with that name a LONG time ago, and liked it. (same with her siblings' names: Gloria, Nina, Kent, and Vicson!) As for the other names that show up on my "names for future kids" lists, I dunno...


3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex, what would your name have been? See Question #1. Although I'm glad I wasn't a boy, as I *did* meet a guy with the same name as me (first and last name) in Gr. 8 when I went to junior high school...


4. If you could re-name yourself, what name would you pick and why? I dunno... too much choice. Maybe Tatiana, as above. It would be something different, and people wouldn't misspell it all the time to have me confused with someone else whom I am ambivalent about / might not like too much at times. (see below)


5. Are there any mispronunciations / typos that people do with your name constantly? I know my sister hates it when people pronounce my name "LEZ-lee" rather than "LES-lee," but there's nothing I can do about it except maybe glare at the people! (however, don't get me started on people who think it's perfectly fine to call me "Lez" as a nickname... I'm NOT A FRIGGING LESBIAN! :P) Oh, and I also hate it when people misspell my name as "Lesley," especially if they're from church. I am NOT the other person with a similar name and don't wish to be confused with her, thanks! I am ME, MY OWN PERSON, and NOT HER! SHEESH! (at least we got the spelling out of the way with Jesse when we were re-introduced to him last month or so!)

Oh, and don't get into what people do to my last name. It's true that it's only two letters long, but I think what throws people is the fact that it doesn't have any vowels. ;) But really... it should be fairly easy to pronounce, seeing as the city IS teeming with Asian folk! :P

Blog catch-up, Friday Five on names

Definitely time to catch up on blogs! Gotta keep up with Spoz, Steph, Dawn, Jon, Vivian, and Dave at some point. ;) Let's see... last day in Marseille, flight HOME details (yay!), Montreal, shopping, being spoiled, weird new wave / goth band reviews. We also have poolballs, crazy band photos at the Austral and other venues, Dave's funny bubble tea poem, HOME ALONE, Nintendo, schadenfreude, questions involving where my brother's been and Fred (don't ask...), and pictures of eggs / durian / monks / Dawn's brother / other assorted things. Yup, all caught up now... just in time for a double cleansing, and going out to the Cactus Club with the Bible Study group! :D

1. Do you like your birth-name? Why?

No, because I got teased all the time about being a lesbian. It was even worse in junior high school when there was a GUY with the exact same name as mine!


2. If you could change your name to anything else, what would it be?

I used to be partial to Cordelia (ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, heh), Eleanor, Evelyn, Belinda, Frances, Gloria, Roanna, Nina (people in my old Sunday School class and their sisters). Xenia, Tatiana (the saga of the Romanovs!), Taryn, Charmaine, Drina (people at school), and a bunch more that just sounded pretty (like Bronwen). Now, I think I'd like to change it (although not seriously) to Alexandra... but that might not go so well with my last name!


3. What names would you consider giving your children?

Possibly the ones above... and James, Christopher, Sebastian, Patrick, and Kevin. Maybe some more, too.. it always changes.


4. If you had a band, what would you name it, and why?

The Blockhead Hamsterettes... heh. Or maybe just the Raving Monkey Loons, if I don't want to steal Spoz's inspiration.


5. Is there a name that you completely hate? Why?

Yes. All those that are spelled like they come out of a random letter scrambler / random dictionary pages (for obvious reasons). I mean, really. Who in their right mind would name their kids Tymothee, Weyekin-Ilp-Ilp, Tyfanee, Gennifer, Curry, Downy, and other such monstrosities? Reminds me of the story Nathan was telling us once at Calhoun's: Nathan's friend is a doctor in Princeton, BC.. basically, this guy came in one day complaining of difficulty urinating. The doctors fixed that, and he went home happy. But then he had difficulty doing a "3-1" and had to go back, stinking up the entire hospital in the process. The doctors couldn't find anything with an X-ray except a little black dot, so they used a camera probe to investigate further. Turns out it was a black Glad garbage bag with two Safeway bags in it, with a 12-inch foam thing inside those. Seems the guy's friends had a little TOO much fun when he was passed out drunk.. they decided to stick things really far up his ass. Thankfully, the problem was resolved when the stinky things were removed with tweezer-like instruments. Everyone at the table was disgusted by the revolting story, but I reacted like Nathan and found it very funny.. poor guy, though! We decided we wouldn't do anything like that to Nathan.. we'd figure out less invasive ways of tormenting him. ;)

HAHAHAHAHA. Why is JACK FM playing Blackstreet's No Diggity?!

After my last post, Eric came over and fiddled around with my mom's scanner for a bit while Nathan napped on my brother's bed (from the alcohol) and Jon called Tally to make Regent plans for tomorrow. (we joked about getting married, and white people making Nathan lose interest right away) My mom was going to see Syriana (but not Harry Potter 4) with us, since she could check out George Clooney.. however, she decided not to as she was up till 4 AM yesterday due to drinking some strong espresso. Vivian and Steph went to some other party, anyhow. Jon IMDB'ed Fruit Chan while making some changes to his songs for tomorrow's carol / dessert program. Eric tried to figure out what was wrong with Jon's network connection, but eventually we all had to get going to Silvercity. (the movie coupons from Ivan and Karen proved useful to me, heh)

The movie was okay, but trying to figure out the first half kept Jon awake, and gave me a headache! (which I took Advil for when I got home at 1:20) The setting kept jumping from place to place (Spain, Virginia, the Persian Gulf, etc.), there wasn't that much in the way of character development, and there were too many characters and stories. It was about corruption in the oil industry ("it keeps us safe and warm!"), and one character tried doing the right thing... but it wasn't enough. There was also some torture scene involving fingernail-pulling... blood and explosions, ick. Next time, I hope we watch a movie that is actually artsy and doesn't try to do too much... but then, we went in with no real expectations.

On the way home, we listened to / discussed the Dead Milkmen, Crazy Frog, and Arrogant Worms.. those were great, and gave me ideas on what to download to fill up blank space on the CD burning project. No, I won't inflict Crazy Frog on my brother.. but POPCORN sounds cool, haha. I also heard that Bon's is closed on Christmas Day (because it's not a Chinese place), so Erin and Steph will be cooking breakfast at church... should be interesting, except that I hate getting up at a certain time / being TOO social. Anti-social time / downtime rocks the house. ;)
