Swiss redneck vampires who are angelic devils

Leslie just took the Are You A Vampire Quiz and is Possible Vampire. I am Possible Vampire. You might be a vampire. You have a few traits that are vampire-ish, but you are probably still okay going out in sunlight.

Leslie's just got their Swiss Name. I just got my Swiss Name. It's Ottavia Hauri.

Leslie's just got their Redneck Name. I just got my Redneck Name. It's Sue-Ann Cornhauler.

Leslie just took the Are You An Angel Or A Devil Quiz and is 60 Percent Angel and 40 Percent Devil. I am 60 Percent Angel and 40 Percent Devil. I am mostly angel, but I have a little devil inside me that likes to pop up every once in a while for some fun.

Facebook quizzes taken from Diane, Dave, Gretchen, Adam, Leslie, and Ryan:

Leslie just took the Are You A Bitch Quiz and is Bitcherella. You like nothing more than to slag off your friends to other friends, creating drama and awkwardness! You thrive on it... you love to judge because you're perfect... right? (Nope, I'm not like my ex at all!)

Leslie completed the quiz "Which Disney / Pixar Character are you?" with the result Dory. You are Dory from Finding Nemo. You're a ditzy little fish that we just can't seem to get rid of. The harder we try, the more we become attached. You try so hard to remember things, but let's face it... it's just not in your genes!!

Leslie just took the "Which type do you fall for? (GIRLS ONLY)" quiz and the result is Your type is the ROCKER! Can you handle concerts, groupies, and partying all night? Because if that is the case, your type is a true rocker! You would probably end up with Pete Doherty. Beware of drugs!

Leslie just took the "How do People Feel When You Walk into a Room?" quiz and the result is Like laughing. You're the class clown! You can make anyone laugh!

Leslie just took the "How Caring Are You?" quiz and the result is Totally! You always look out for other people, and rarely think about yourself. :D

Leslie took the how tall are you going to be? quiz and the result is 5 foot 5 inches. Average. (HA. I'd have to grow another six inches for that to be true... I wish!)

Leslie completed the quiz "What is your ideal religion?" with the result Zoroastrianism. You believe that there is One God who is pure wisdom, manifest in the human conscience and available to all who do good deeds, say good things and think good thoughts. There is no need for elaborate ritual. Fire is a symbol of enlightenment. Zoroaster was the thought provoker (not prophet) and his message speaks for all mankind at all times.

Leslie took the What old-school WWF wrestler are you? quiz and the result is "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. DiBiase was a master with the microphone. One of his most memorable events was negotiating the championship belt from Andre the Giant following Andre's defeat of Hulk Hogan for the title in 1988.

Poo nugget for Monday, May 25: Natural Gas - San Francisco is becoming the first U.S. city to turn doggy doo into biofuel. The poo will be collected in special biodegradable bags, and then run through a machine that extracts methane. This highly flammable gas, in turn, is piped in to heat homes and run stoves, giving new meaning to the term "natural gas."

Southern Fried chicken, moon phases, and being Russian

Bingo of the night:

ADROITEST (350 points) - against Angela H.

High-scoring words of the night:

SATAY (122 points) - against Ursula P. [3W, 4W] {a good deficit-erasing word!}
ADROITEST (350 points) - against Angela H. [bingo, two 5W]

Made some Shake N'Bake Southern Fried chicken earlier tonight, and it was pretty good with the sweet Thai chili sauce! I guess I had time to do that since I'm at HOME instead of being OUT... sigh.

Leslie just took the Could You Be A Soap Star Quiz and is Not A Soap Star. I am Not A Soap Star. You are not cut out for a life of daytime TV and soap stardom. Unfortunately, you don't have any of the skills required. (Probably a good thing...)

Leslie's just got their Russian Name. I just got my Russian Name. It's Valeriya Andreev.

Facebook quizzes from Kaitlin, Kelly, Adam, and Veronica:

Leslie completed the quiz "What Phase of the Moon Are You in?" with the result New Moon. You are in the New Moon phase. Your ideas about yourself and what you desire are just beginning to take form. You may feel uncertain about striking out on your own. Although you desire to be self-sufficient, you also need support from others. This is an excellent time to state your dreams and goals... try getting creative and using photos, magazine pictures, and found poetry to collage a vision board of your heart's desire.

Leslie completed the quiz "What Type of Tattoo Should You Get?" with the result "Sometimes, a few words can say it all" - Script. A picture may speak a thousand words, but there are times in life when a few well-chosen words can say volumes and move mountains. Most texts, beautiful in form and meaning, originate from enlightened minds, so meaning is portrayed in words rather than imagery.

Leslie just took the "What colour should your iPod be?" quiz and the result is Blue. Your results show that you're original and creative. You are obviously somebody with talent and never accepts defeat. Blue is the colour which truly demonstrates your unique nature!

Leslie just took the "If you ruled the world, what would it look like?" quiz and the result is Peaceful. You are the kind of leader that would show us a peaceful solution to ending our wars and stopping poverty. You are a compassionate person, and we would all be better off in the hands of someone like yourself. Everyone would be happy and at peace!

Poo nugget for this weekend: Postpartum Poo - Typically occurring between one and three days after a vaginal delivery (sometimes even longer after a C-section), this bowel movement is a combination of the worst your GI tract has to offer. Several factors contribute to the pain associated with a woman's first bowel movement after childbirth: abdominal muscle fatigue from labor, dehydration, engorged hemorrhoids, and complications from childbirth such as an episiotomy or vaginal tear. While the physiological reality of the postpartum period cannot be changed, several steps may help to make the first few Postpartum Poos more tolerable: increasing water intake to six to eight glasses a day, increasing fiber intake, and taking frequent walks to help kickstart your GI tract's engine. Gentle laxatives and enemas are also frequently needed in the early postpartum period. The most important thing to do is to go early and go often.

Car bombs, the Witness Protection Program, and the mosque!

Quick summary of the last few episodes: Tony pulled off the biggest and most shocking heel turn since Andre the Giant ripped Hulk Hogan's crucifix off his neck on an episode of Piper's Pit. Kim came back and reconciled with her father, though she didn't put up much of a fight when he insisted on dying, even though she could have saved him with her stem cells. Larry bit the dust (although he did NOT receive the silent clock - hmm...), and Renee pretty much confirmed what we all suspected: the two of them had done the horizontal mambo at some point.

Olivia Taylor (who looks like she could pass for Reese Witherspoon's stunt double - you know, if Reese Witherspoon did action films) was really upset about her mother's deal with Jonas Hodges, and she decided to take matters into her own hands. And there's some group of conspirators who only communicate via chatroom ("#EvilCabalOfMercenaries" on IRC), although we know one of them was the guy who played Coach Yoast in Remember the Titans. Evidently, he was VERY upset about his demotion in favor of Denzel Washington's character. He convinces the others to follow Tony's and his new girlfriend's (who doesn't hold a candle to Michelle, by the way) plan to use their lone remaining canister to attack immediately.

This week's episode of 24:

Tony and his friends are inside Jibraan Al-Zarian's apartment. Cara is working on planting evidence on Jibraan's computer while Tony threatens him and tells him to cooperate. He gingerly removes the piece of duct tape from Jibraan's mouth, which is good because his mustache and beard could have made that really painful. See? Tony would understand. He's got the evil beard thing going for him. Tony then gives Jibraan some lines to memorize for his anti-America propaganda video. Janis continues to give Jack attitude and accuses him of being a racist. Well, considering that Jonas told Jack that they were going to use Muslim extremists, then it kind of makes sense, right? I mean, if they were looking at right-wing militia groups, then they'd just be wasting everyone's time, don't you think?

Sure enough, Jack lays the verbal smackdown on Janis and puts her in her place. Considering Janeane Garofalo's politics, I wonder if they wrote her character like that on purpose. Chloe realizes Jack is dying, and she becomes genuinely emotional. Jack tells her to stay strong, and tries his hardest not to break down in front of her. Chloe agrees to go back to work, and Jack looks sad after she leaves. This was actually a touching and a very well-acted scene. Kudos to both actors. By the way, how much do you want to bet that it's Chloe that calls up Kim and shames her for not insisting on helping her dad?

Jibraan is shooting his anti-America video (not bad, he memorized his lines in less than 10 minutes), but the cops show up. Obviously, Tony tells Jibraan to get rid of the cops, or else. Jibraan looks clearly distraught when he tells them that his now-gone friends were making a lot of noise, but the cops take him at his word. They don't ask to come in, nor do they do much else except to tell him to keep it down. Good to see the cops in D.C. are lazy. Chloe finds out about Jibraan, and Jack decides to track down his Imam. Renee then asks Jack if he is capable of being in the field, but Jack says he needs to see this through. Renee gives him a sad look before giving her assent. Aaron ushers in some unsavory-looking fellow who is supposed to help Olivia kill Hodges. The guy who plays him was a doctor on ER and a snitch on NYPD Blue. Nice resumé. Anyway, Olivia wants Hodges dead, she wants his family dead, and she wants his house burned to the ground. Okay, maybe just the first thing.

Hodges meets with the U.S. Marshall who will be taking him into Witness Protection. His new name is "Robert Tippett," and Hodges is less than thrilled about it. It could be worse. It could be "Oliver Clothesov" or "Mike Rotch." I was hoping they'd go with "Richard Croft," "Bud Kilmer," or "Luke Martin" in a nod to some of Jon Voight's greatest roles. Anyway, Hodges thinks the agent is giving him attitude and Hodges gives him a lecture about everything that he's lost. Like when he threw his best friend over a guardrail, and was more worried about cleaning the blood off his shirt. That cracked me up. Jack and Renee arrive at the mosque, and the first thing Jack does is pull out his gun. This is not going to end well for the Imam... The Imam gives Renee attitude, and Jack then gets in his face. Janis calls and tells Renee that a police officer has responded to the APB. Jack then drags the Imam with them because he doesn't want him to tip Jibraan off. I give the Imam a 30% chance of living. I guess religious figures can be redshirts, too.

Jibraan has to convince his brother that he's really a terrorist. His brother buys it hook, line, and sinker, and actually spits in Jibraan's face. I guess he didn't know Jibraan as well as he thought he did. Olivia gets the account information from the hitman and she's prepared to transfer $250K into his offshore account. $250K? That's pretty cheap, don't you think? Especially for a high-value target in federal custody like Hodges. Where did she find the deal? Priceline.com? "You can name your price on everything from airline tickets to hotels to hitmen!" Olivia decides not to go through with it, and doesn't transfer the money. I'm sure that's not going to backfire on her. Chloe discovers that the money and the evidence on Jibraan's computer were backdated. Man, Cara is not a good planter-of-evidence, is she? Jack realizes that Jibraan was being set up, and he apologizes to the Imam. The Imam and Jack have a heart-to-heart, and the Imam tries to get Jack to convert. Yeah, that's likely. He'll come back next season as Mustafa Asad.

Hodges stares at photos of his family and his daughter in the picture looks nothing like Angelina Jolie. He doesn't respond when the Marshall calls him by his new name. Luckily, Hodges responds before the Marshall has to take a page from The Simpsons, by saying "When I say: 'Hello, Mr. Tippett' and press down on your foot... smile and nod, okay?" Of course, Hodges' car then blows up and it looks like Olivia couldn't stop the hit in time. Then again, we don't know who actually had him killed, just yet. Plus, there's no silent clock for Hodges, so he might not even be dead... Olivia freaks out when she finds out about Hodges. She calls her contact and he tells her not to talk on the phone. Yeah, Olivia... you know calls out of the White House are all recorded. Anyway, he wants to meet up, and she agrees. She then composes herself and walks calmly past Aaron, who looks like he knows something is up. She better not get Aaron killed, that's all I got to say.

Jack's logic once again rears its head. He tells Renee that Tony and his men are clearly using the brother as leverage because that's what he would do. The Imam then finds about Jack's condition, and he starts to sympathize. Like that 70s Senator and Larry Moss, he's now Jack's buddy, apparently. Well, we know what happened to those two. Jack and the team break in and try to subdue the hostile. In the confusion, the brother breaks off a piece of glass from the mirror and tries to kill the hostile. Great move, dumbass. Now they won't be able to get the guy to talk if he bleeds out. Maybe the brother was in on it all along? Man, I've been watching too much of this show. Tony and Jibraan enter a van, and it looks like they're targeting the Metro. All you early commuters are in for a rude awakening. See? It pays to be late to work.

Grandma is now 89! / I'm going to kill my expendable girlfriend!

Grandma's birthday dinner at Gingeri Chinese Restaurant (at Lansdowne) went pretty well: after complaining that Steph's birthday card was all in English, Grandma laughed at it. At least Steph captured that moment on the camera! My sibs bugged me about Chinese Eric, although chemistry is something which is cool - we're just good friends, is all. I had to remind Mom that Chinese Eric is single now, heh. I guess it's true that Jon doesn't offer up his friends like that, heh. Steph said that Terrence is coming to home - Jon says that he can be a replacement, but Mom said she'd see about Terrence staying over. At least four months' notice is better than four MINUTES' notice! "Hey, sis! Where are you? In BC? Great! I'm at the airport!" ".... okay...." Talked about Uncle Andre, Citrus, Sam, guest lists, numerous family dinners, alone time, Cecilia's sister Angela getting married, age differences in relationships, Liz (Alan L.'s wife) being pregnant and due in August ("You gotta excuse Liz - she's a little fat right now..."), dou mew, SLB, reasons for not dating, videos, people having soft spots for me, wedding stuff, setting boundaries, corruption, work, talking well to people, interview techniques, and more.

Got home to watch 24, and found that President Taylor and Ethan were in a hospital room - Dubaku had been seriously injured in a crash, and he went into cardiac arrest while Jack was interrogating him, and then Jack wanted the paramedics to open him up right afterwards. "NOW, even though he could die if you can't get him to the hospital." Then Jack called Larry and let him know about a metal disc - then Sean warned Erica about that in the washroom. "I'm not going to jail! You made all these promises, like how you're going to leave your wife!" "I'm just going to crash all the servers and violate a bunch of safety protocols, don't worry!"

Renee said that Jack shouldn't try to pretend that Marika's death never happened, but Jack IS trying to be efficient! Erica and Sean were up to nothing GOOD, like bypassing the system - someone called Sean and said that the database files were in the FBI's possession! Larry wanted Chloe to reverse the crashed files, but that wouldn't happen anytime soon. Sean said that he and Erica had to get out of the mainframe room after they bypassed the servers, but he killed her while he was kissing her (expendable), and injured himself to make his story look good. Larry and Chloe burst in, and Sean blamed everything on Erica. Later, Sean said Larry should have trusted him - Larry is trusting the wrong person. Chloe then recovered Dubaku's files, and Sean wasn't impressed with that news! Janis then tried talking to Sean, but he was having none of it - very suspicious, indeed! Then Larry had a confrontation with Sean in the hall, yay!

Renee had to tell Marika's sister Rosa the news of her death - not good! "She was all I had, and I trusted you with her life! You didn't care about anything! YOU KILLED HER!" Then Jack told Renee that Marika's death was necessary for the greater good, so Renee wanted to know if Jack even felt emotion when his wife was killed. He offered her comforting hug even when he was saying that they had a job to do: not sure if that went well. Allison told her daughter that Henry was seriously injured, because the bullet went through his lung. The daughter wanted to go to the hospital right then, even if it was dangerous: "It took Dad getting shot for you to finally want to talk?" Not a good time for that right now!

Bill told President Taylor that Jack Bauer was among the list of people to thank, and reminded her that the Senate hearing was reconvening the next morning. Tony told Jack that there would be another attack, even if Dubaku provided a list of government people - "You were going to turn yourself in, remember?" "The senator's chief of staff Ryan is involved in the planning - this is real, and I'm not lying to you!" Then Ryan got called away - very telling camera angle right at the end! Next week's edition is two hours long! "The target is the White House - move the President NOW!"

You want to throw my pin in the GARBAGE?!

Jon picked me up this morning, and immediately asked if Chinese Eric was still all gung-ho about his wedding. Of course he is! "It's my day off, so I'm looking at airfares! I can't wait to chill with the new groom and Nate and everyone else!" is certainly a good indicator of that! Discussed Steph being in Calgary, his teaching on Saturday (it sucks that he can't attend the open house!), Jonathan, Mom not mentioning my being at Steph's birthday dinner (sigh...), the tux place across the street from the church, no Sunday School, snow in Toronto, whether he'll have to attend the child protection seminar himself, Mom's confusing EGOTISTICAL for something else, and some other things. The Open House should be interesting, at any rate. It was funny when we saw Mike / Ivan / Sam on the corner where our old church was: they must have been at Bon's since it's still relatively close to the new building!

Got to church late, and I could feel Randal looking at us when we walked in - yeah, it happens! Phil recreated the experience of a dissection room for us - dead bodies and formaldehyde do not a good combination make! Daniel said it had been a while since we had an Offering in Song: Margaret had her own song, yay! (there were technical difficulties with the computer and the mike!) Afterwards, I said hi to Joey / Julie / Sheena / Helen and her baby Cory. It's good that Danny's taken Nicholas to swimming lessons, since she wouldn't be able to handle both kids at once! Cory's a smiling baby most of the time, anyhow! Congregated outside the fellowship hall, where Jeremy verbalized what I was thinking: nobody was inside because there was no food! Calla and Johnny were at the David Fellowship retreat (my brother was surprised I wasn't there), so we joked that Phil should do a pastoral duty and delegate it to someone else next time there was a retreat, haha. Talked to Dianne for a bit about getting the seminar over and done with NOW, which is a good strategy.

Talked to Jeremy about his jasmine rice and my rice blend, and to Lily about the Valentine's Day card I gave her daughter Hannah. Baby Gavin was awake, and liked holding my finger! Phil, Lily, and I talked about how the first kid was more introverted while the second kid seemed to be more social: it's true with Phil and Melia, and true with me and Jon! I went upstairs, where Joshua told me that he didn't like my flower pin and wanted to throw it in the garbage! His brother Keenan just wasn't in a good mood, and cried when I said hi to him. At Sunday School, I talked to Auntie Fonda about rice cookers / Chinese opera / my brother's wedding / felts / markers / dollar store tambourines / crayons. She apparently knows just where to get one, so now all I have to do is buy a pencil sharpener for the pencil crayons unless I can find one around here! (should have done that last Monday - oh well...) Said hi to Auntie Bessy (refreshed her on Jon / Alan / Megan's wedding dates) and Rachel's grandma, who treated us to homemade Chinese dessert from this morning. It's interesting how Holly got married on 8/8/08, and Harmony will get married on 6/6/09 - NUMBERS! (I discussed this with Uncle Andre later on - "another niece getting married... you should see this video of Harmony and Holly when they were three or four, playing in Oppenheimer Park!")

Afterwards, I went downstairs to at least say hi to my mom, who told me that Grandma's birthday dinner will probably be on Tuesday. On my way out to the fellowship hall, I refreshed Auntie Kwai on my brother's wedding date since my grandma was fuzzy on the exact date. She has to plan out how to dress since she's going on a cruise in August. Went to the fellowship hall, got a ride home from Ada, and talked to Angus / Vanessa / Melia / Maxine about selling Mary Kay (Maxine's sister got into it, and she herself has used it for about a year - yay, mascara?), low-cut tops, Costco pizza / tossed salad (not THAT kind, you perverts! :P) / drinks, Joshua and Keenan loving Hawaii, and more.

Accidentally dirtied my booklet with salad dressing, so got another one from the back table - that turned out to be the Youth Worker one and not the Children's Worker one, so I got the correct one later on. Interesting seminar - we wondered why Richmond and Burnaby offered free criminal record checks, while Vancouver didn't. Maybe it has to do with the RCMP / Vancouver police divide? I can always ask my sister about that, as well as how to get one started in the first place - my guess is we have to go down to the station in person, but I really wouldn't know. Baby Mattias is so cute, too - saw him later on. Talked about nursing bibs and such with Karen before Ada and I left. Discussed pizza, sushi, fried chicken, Ian, Sean, yellow lights, and more on the way home: yay for good people! Eric sent me an interesting email, too - hmm!

Daring God to show His face will result in certain death!

Post #3737... gotta love those repeating numbers! ;)

Today's Godless Yet Truly Morbid Fact!

A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal's enclosure. "The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," a zoo official said. "A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down, and severed his carotid artery." The incident, on Sunday evening when the zoo was packed with visitors, was the first of its kind at the attraction. Lions and tigers are kept in an "animal island" protected by thick concrete blocks.

Wretched Recommendations!

Sandy has a movie recommendation:

Citizen X (1995)

"It is really good and really creepy. Personally, I think they cast the killer wrong though. Because Andre Chikatilo was one of those really CREEPY-looking guys and they cast a non-creepy guy. Do you remember seeing the photos of him in the cage he sat in for trial? He looked positively scary / creepy / insane. When you look up 'stranger danger,' he is the picture next to the phrase. I also highly recommend it - it's great!"

Harmony at the townhouse, holiday plans, anniversaries

Dinner at the townhouse went pretty well, I think. We drank some wine and raspberry dessert ice wine, had some beer, and joked that Mom's tolerance was getting better because Jon makes her drink all these beers that Jeremy makes / he brings home, haha. I wore that purple "WHATEVER" shirt - it wasn't that hard to find since it was on a chair in my living area. We talked about Steph's Stateside trip, Harmony's time in Toronto, her writing, the mutual friends she and Jon know now, it being worth staying up late to talk to Jon at night on the phone (of course it is), and our holiday plans. Eric is inviting everyone to watch the Canucks-Flames pay per view game at his place on the 26th... I'll certainly come! His mom Veronica is Super Hostess with lots of food, so we feel welcome. (even after an SLB night, she had snacks laid out for us!) Jon wants to eat at The Foundation restaurant on Friday since Eric can eat the veggie fare that they serve: always a good thing! He gave me and Steph our cards from Dylan: vintage VCEFC cards, haha. (he told me that he was following my example, hehe) Harmony's parents have their wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve (got married in San Francisco), and Pastor Fulton and Auntie Teresa have theirs on Boxing Day. They wanted us younger folk to come for dessert, so we'll see how things go after the hockey game that night!

Harmony's family knows Uncle Andre too (her mom is his sister!), so we discussed that for a while. We also talked about Erin's parents and certain traits they have when giving gifts. Tip: check to see how expired their stuff may be FIRST before consuming it! (vitamin pills and cookie tins, anyone?) Mom brought out the photo albums so Harmony could see our kiddy / baby pictures: Jon looked way different as a baby than now, but his friend Edwin still looks the same! Speaking of hockey, we watched a bunch of the Flames-Sharks game while making more holiday plans: Rachel and Steph are definitely cooking dinner for our families on New Year's Day, while Mom is inviting Dave's family (plus Tiffany) back to our place the night before. Somewhere in between, we might schedule an SLB outing too... looks to be BUSY! Harmony has stuff to do with her relatives, and actually is out right now with Jon at her place meeting some of them. Catching up is what you do, after all. ;)

Jon mixed some durian ice cream along with eggnog ice cream: that didn't smell great! Mom figured it was Dallas' fault that a durian was in the freezer since he brought it for Tomlin (Jon's Toronto nickname, after the Christian singer-songwriter Chris Tomlin) on Thanksgiving, and wanted Jon to store it at Jeremy's. Not a good idea in an apartment complex! Pretty good times, indeed. :D (Steph's just finished Powerpoint for tomorrow's packed service with baptism / baby dedication / usual stuff / LOTS of Scripture readings and songs, so I'm going now!) Harmony even gave our family some gifts, which was nice of her... I have mine, Steph has hers, and our parents and grandma have one too! Steph's reserving one of HER church cards for us both to sign to give to her when we see her next. (my idea) Grandma was impatient and wanted me to get my mittens and beret thing from my mom NOW when they were for Christmas, so I have them now. I probably won't have time to open them till Christmas Day, anyhow... Steph gave me a 100g Lindt snowman, too! Cute! I also got my sibs to sign the December birthday cards, and emailed that hilarious Richmond list out to most people. :D

Tomorrow: Greek lunch with Uncle Sam's mom, and dinner at Dave's.
Christmas: probably nothing.
Boxing Day: PPV hockey game at Eric's.
Friday: Bible Study outing night at The Foundation (?)
NYE: Dave's family and Tiffany over for dinner at the townhouse.
New Year's: Rachel and Steph cooking dinner for our families.

Today's Ex-Communicated Yet Truly Morbid Fact!

Because the papacy often was treated as a political pawn, popes sometimes found themselves at the mercy of ruthless rulers. Consider poor John XVI, who thought he was the rightful pope, according to Roman nobles who pushed him onto the papal throne in 997. Unfortunately, another politically powerful pope, Gregory V, was alive elsewhere in Europe.

Gregory returned to Rome with an army and wasn't amused at finding a rival. He ordered John's eyes put out as well as his nose and ears sliced off. Then, to underline the point, John was excommunicated. Should he wish to object, his lips, teeth and tongue were removed next. And his mutilated body, still alive, was shipped to a monastery.

Youch!!! And I thought Pope Stephen (yesterday's MFDJ) was bad! There's a Catholic church down the street called St. Gregory. I'll have to think of this story every time I pass by the church. It's actually a pretty cool building - it has a crucified Jesus standing on a skull above the main entrance. Nice, eh?

Morbid Link Du Jour!

TABOO - HUMAN FLESH FOOD AND CULTURE

WHAT IS THE FLAVOR OF HUMAN FLESH?

Gary Allen

Presented at the Symposium Cultural and Historical Aspects of Foods
Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR.

Given the complexity of the tasting experience, how do we deal with describing the flavor of things we have not tasted, or indeed, things we have been forbidden to taste? Do you remember what you, as a child, imagined the flavor of coffee to be? What gustatory bliss was suggested by its delicious aroma? Or the smell of vanilla extract, that begged to be tasted, despite (or because of) the warnings from your mother? Can you recall thinking about the flavor of a food that you have only heard about, one that you have never seen or smelled? The brain immediately tries to provide the missing sensory details, drawing on all kinds of associations. The accuracy of the projected description of the flavor varies widely, depending on the breadth and sophistication of the taster's experience.

For more, go here.

Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror Walkthrough

Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror walkthrough:

1. Introduction

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the success of the original game, it was no surprise that a sequel would be made. Broken Sword 2 begins shortly after the previous game. George, the main character from Broken Sword 1, was forced to leave Nico, the photo journalist from Broken Sword 1, in order to look after his dying father in America. A few months later, George returns to Paris for a reunion.
While George was away, Nico was trying to expose a drug smuggling ring, but accidentally found something far more sinister when she gained possession of a strange obsidian stone. George and Nico go to visit the house of Mayan archaeologist Professor Oubier hoping to learn more about the stone, when they are attacked. Nico is kidnapped, George is tied up, the house is set on fire... and to make things worse, he is left in the room with a tarantula which is crawling slowly toward him. Welcome to Broken Sword 2!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

2. Walkthrough

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Professor Oubier's house
Right-click on the book case to find out that that it is being supported by a block of wood. Use the block of wood, which is located at the bottom-right corner of the book case. Use the metal bracket on the wall to get out of the chair. Open the writing bureau, and get the tequila. A worm will fall onto the floor. Get the worm.
