Tonight's bonding time over ROTK:EE

Eric, Eunice, Sheena, Jon, Phil, Christon, Alan, Nathan, his friend Andrew, Dave, Cindy, her friend Jin, Edwin, Vivian, and I all congregated at Nate's to watch ROTK:EE tonight. It was very interesting.. they extended a lot of scenes, but didn't just add pointless ones to make it longer. Thank goodness they didn't extend the ending as Alan thought they might! Some of us were falling asleep / losing interest in the movie as it went on, but the battle scenes woke us up!

When we learned that Cindy hadn't seen any of the LOTR movies, we tried to give her an overview. Sheena tried giving her a description of the basics (the Ring's origins included), but Cindy wanted the big picture. As Christon said, Jon's description was very accurate: "Good things happen, bad things happen, and people die." It wouldn't have been a good idea to stay and watch all three movies for her edification, extended editions or not.. we would be here till tomorrow afternoon or so, if we wanted to sleep / eat / take extended pee breaks in the meantime!

We had fun with Nathan's stuffed animals (especially the camels), and the Gollum / Smeagol doll. Nathan told us the story of why the camel was his trademark: it grew out of random drawings in his friends' yearbooks. There were some hilarious moments in the movie's extended scenes... Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas go to recruit some undead (?) people to help them in a battle; when they successfully convince them to help in their cause, skulls rain down the mountain. Eunice thought they were potatoes at first.. crunchy skulls are definitely not potatoes, even if they look similar! ;)

Definitely a good night out.. Eric asked if it rocked, and I had to tell him that it certainly did! There were times when I wanted certain things, but the night was good nonetheless. Human contact is important to me.. thank goodness that Nathan tried catching me when I entered the house and fell on the foyer, which was way too slippery! (I didn't get injured, and CPR wasn't needed since I was okay) Bonding time with friends really rules! :)

The closing credits went on for more than ten minutes, including the list of all the people in the LOTR fan club. There were 76 chapters in the entire movie, and Eric expressed disbelief over "the mouth of Sauron".. it was just an eye! By the way, I opened Word to spellcheck this entry, and I found it amusing that Nathan's copy of the program is licensed to "Rising Phoenix" from the "Land of Chocolate." Tee hee. :D

Jon is currently telling his friend Tally that it's all right that she called him on Nathan's house line.. he says he is like the third son over here. He is also telling her that it's okay for him to be on their phone this late, since Nathan's parents are like workaholics / people with extreme amounts of energy. Daniel and Nathan inherited their tendency toward very good hospitality, too. They sleep at 3 or 4 AM (although that might be pushing it), so it's refreshing to see among our friends' parents! ;)

We're going to watch some U2 DVD pretty soon, and we're wondering about Bono's use of Spanish at the beginning of Vertigo: "Uno, dos, tres, catorce"... "1, 2, 3, 14" doesn't make much sense!
