Catching Up / Auntie Anne's Pretzels / Giving up on Myspace Blogging

Got the chance to catch up on blogs, too. I'm not sure how I'll do this when Awana's back in session, haha. o_O (but I managed last year, somehow...)

Dawn thinks that Vancouver is stuck in some other century, not China... heck, she bemoans Rogers not covering parts of this city with decent reception. To that end, she gives us instructions on how to reach her via cell until she gets a landline: fair enough! She's also had a few interviews that make her wonder about the reading comprehension of those interviewing her for certain job positions. With her last name, she is not Filipino!

Dave says that he had a good day some time ago, went to Fred's for a beer and some musing, wants a Doraemon webcam, rants about checkout line etiquette ("12 items lane" and "10-cent Canadian Tire money"), hummed the Transformers theme (Shanghai and Mandarin!), and made a series of goals for his relaxation next week after some paper's submitted. Hugs, sleeping in, eating chocolate, writing letters, oxtail slow-cooked soup, reading books, and watching DVDs all sound like good ways to relax in my opinion!

Spoz is covering the music scene on a TUESDAY night... what a shocker! Stuckey (Copy One), Trixie Plain, and others were his musical accompaniment. Then of course, there was his usual weekender thing: he went to some Greek restaurant and sampled some "SEAFOOD METAXA" (a sublime mix of Morton Bay bugs, prawns, clams, octopus, calamari, miscellaneous fish bits, and other such rubbish.. flame-grilled in brandy, served on a bed of rice, finished with a smooth white cheesy sauce, and topped with these two thin breadstick thingies (which he used as chopsticks for cheap laughs). Then he washed it down with some Greek beer called Mythos, which apparently complemented the flavors in a way that beer never should.. eek, haha. He passed a weird mechanical entity, went to pubs, witnessed mannequins getting tweaked, saw blue couches that he thought were black, and saw other weekender weirdness.

Vivian's posted a PEARLS BEFORE WINE comic, complained about some idiot who filed a customer service complaint against her because her nuggets and fries only comes with 4 nuggets instead of 6, and had a recap of the past month. She recounted eating out, one-month baby banquets, bubble tea, PNE, gelato, free delivery of textbooks / UPass, and all the other things that make summer so good and yet a letdown!

Jen's just said things about it getting too personal, being just friends with someone, and recounted that story we heard about last night: this gardener left his name and number with the store because she gave him a free coffee! Haha, oh my. "Stop picking up the customers," indeed... your manager's funny, dudette!

Speaking of blogging, I've given up on Myspace's blog. It takes way too long to submit an actual entry (no, this has nothing to do with how long it takes me to WRITE the damned thing :P), and I only have a limited amount of patience! :P Yeah, I've been spoiled by certain other blogging / journal sites, for sure! (will check out Facts About Multiples since it's been updated, though!)

Hey, I got emails from Phil and Eric about tomorrow's dinner. Eric says, "Those preparing can show up anytime after church. Those coming for the dinner should make an appearance by 6:30. Please RSVP to Jon or me so we can make the correct amount of food." Phil's pleading for a carpool: "Hey Guys... Love to be there. Anyone wanna carpool from the church? Richmond is mighty far for me, a simple boy from Burnaby. Please?" I have a feeling I'll be hanging out with Jon and whoever else is prepping all afternoon, whee!

For my own amusement, I've been sending Corey the lyrics to Neil Young's Piece of Crap. He thinks I'm a "poem girl"... while (good) lyrics are probably a form of poetry, I'm not really one as such. But I love this analysis of the first verse:

[16:38:22] Flami: All hail sparkly socks!: Tried to save the trees
Bought a plastic bag
The bottom fell out
It was a piece of crap
[16:39:23] Corey: paper bags are more environmentally friendly
[16:39:34] Corey: and plastic ones suck :P
[16:39:57] Corey: unless you tie the top shut, all your groceries will probably fall out in the car
[16:40:03] Corey: then you can't untie the damn thing
[16:40:24] Corey: or it breaks :P
[16:40:57] Corey: paper works a hell of a lot better, and is biodegradable

Auntie Anne's Pretzels

Serving Size: 1
INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 teaspoon Yeast
1/2 teaspoon Brown sugar
1 teaspoon Salt
1 1/2 cups Water
4 cups Bread flour
2 teaspoon Baking soda
2 cups Warm water
1/2 lb Butter
2 Tablespoon Honey
White sugar
Brown sugar
*********

Preparation Instructions: Mix yeast, brown sugar, dash of salt, and 1 1/2 cups water. Let sit for five minutes. Add bread flour. Knead well. Let rise for about one hour. Grease baking sheet. Mix baking soda and warm water. Take a piece of dough and roll and shape into a pretzel. The easiest way to shape is to roll it into a rope of whatever size you prefer. Pinch the ends of the rope, then bring the ends of the rope to the other side of the circle. Dip pretzels in warm water and baking soda mixture, and put on baking sheet. Bake at 425°F for about 12 minutes. While still hot, brush with melted butter and honey. Sprinkle with white and brown sugar (approx. half and half mixture).
