"They'll be WASHROOM FRIENDS to your parents now, Eric!"

Chinese Eric picked me up a little late, but that was fine. We discussed how long it's been since he's seen his girl - man, he needs the human contact since he can't see Fay right now. They're both pretty busy with work and such, so it's not like they see each other every day or anything! Dave told him about Phil's getting married, I filled him in on Melia, and he said that he's seen Norman a few times at Willingdon when he can get out there - good to know! We called Nathan to see exactly where this restaurant was, and found ourselves looking for a parking spot on one of the side streets. Then we were outside NIRVANA restaurant (604-87-CURRY), trying to see our friends inside since it was dark. Eric M. came out of another restaurant, and guided us in - ah, the vegetarian place that Jon goes on about from time to time: THE FOUNDATION!

We also saw Adela (who just got back from Hong Kong), Christon, Nathan, Jon, and Jeremy there - yup, we had to respect Jon's Lenting meat! Nathan started discussing Phil and Melia's engagements like everyone knew about those - Adela was SO SHOCKED! We had to ask her to hold the pose so Nathan could take a picture with his camera phone, haha. I think we all assume that their parents are all okay with everything, even getting engaged on your one-year anniversary of dating! (Phil and Grace) For some reason, Adela thought Grace was Caucasian because Phil told her so - Nathan had to take it one step further and say "No, he was trying to tell you that she was a HOT ASIAN!" We all laughed at that one! Eventually, we noticed that it was taking some time for certain things like cutlery, beer, hot water, and napkins to arrive - the place seemed understaffed, and there was a huge lineup going right out the door! The menu options had cute names - "Final Option" / "Last Resort" for example! Jeremy's food was quite good, and almost all of us tried some SESAME SOCIETY except Adela - she's sick! (I had MANGO FORTE, as did Nathan - Adela and Eric H. had THE FOUNDATION BURGER!) There was a bit of a mixup with the cash at the end, but things got resolved just in time to leave for ECBC.

The rest of the night was like a VERY bad Seinfeld episode - it's like, what ELSE can go wrong?! Chinese Eric and I were going to meet Jon's car down the street, but we couldn't find our car where we'd parked it! After wondering where it was, we figured that it was either stolen (an Acura nearby had had its window smashed) or towed - the fact that it was his parents' car made things even worse! We tried calling Nathan, but he wasn't picking up - so Jon, Eric M., and Jeremy picked us up. Drove around trying to find Buster's Towing, but the car wasn't there. So we went to Rusty's, where the debit card system was down. Jeremy said "Down with the establishment!" and figured it was a quick way for them to get tax-free cash: at least the car wasn't stolen! Eric H. just wanted us to drop him off at a bus station at this point, but Jon wasn't having any of it - we were practicing worship by driving around, haha. No, we didn't have $50 on us after dinner... maybe $20 or so!

Jeremy told us that he'd been woken up once by some people stealing a car right underneath his window - the person whose car it was lived upstairs from him, and was yelling out the window! He was just thinking: "Can't a guy sleep in?!" (haha) Discussed towing regulations on our way to find a specific bank machine, although we passed by other bank machines - Jon seemed like he really wanted to cash a cheque, but it wasn't convenient getting to his bank machine. We found two 7-11s within a block or so of each other, and remembered that they had those specific bank machines, so we waited for Eric H. on a side street. It was then that Jeremy made the TV analogy (Eric: "We even have our very own Elaine!"), and told us that he kinda needed to go to the washroom: Jon and Eric agreed! I had gone at the restaurant after eating, so I was fine. But with Jeremy's beer... yeah, it's like "My work here is done, and I want to leave!" Then we noticed that Chinese Eric took a little longer than we thought he would, so we called him: THE BANK MACHINE ATE HIS CARD! Eric M. offered to go to the 7-11 and see what was up: sure thing!

Jeremy wondered whether he'd get arrested if he went by a tree that was right beside the car - that would make the night even worse! After he asked whether the tree looked as if it needed water (no urea!), the two Erics got back: there was nothing they could do about the card, so Chinese Eric just wanted us to drop him off at home because he had to get cash. We weren't about to do that, so we all went to his place - his family had moved just a few houses down. Odd, but Eric said his dad did it for the view and such. He called his parents, and it was HILARIOUS: "Hi, Mom - can you unlock the top lock of the door? My friends want to come over and use the washroom!" Jon and I tried to translate through laughter for the two white dudes, hahahaha. Eric M. tried calming me down by putting a hand on my shoulder, but no go - he knows how it is when I'm in the middle of laughing! :P

When we got to Eric's house, I insisted on bringing Nathan's laptop with us - Jon carried it for us, which was cool since we had to go down some stairs. We met his parents for the first time: such awkward circumstances! (not as awkward as a death or anything, but still...) They were nice to us, and asked whether we'd like anything to drink: no thanks! Jon called Nathan again to say that we'd be even later than we thought: I bet he was surprised to hear that we were at Eric's house! He made an offhand comment about how we left Eric's car at the towing company - we hope his parents didn't catch that one! Any other inquiries were put off with a "Long story - I'll tell you later!" After establishing that some of us lived in Richmond and one lived in Vancouver (nobody in Burnaby!), it was time to go again.

We went to the towing company again while reminiscing about other towing stories and the time that Eric M.'s Sunfire broke down while we were on our way to the Yaletown Brewery: ah, Christmas breaks and Jon going back to Toronto! It wasn't wet that night - just cold. Pushing the car was quite the experience for the guys (Anthony included), and it's a good thing that Eric's parents dropped off the other car for us to use later! After Eric H. paid the towing company, Eric M. decided to go with him in his car. Jon, Jeremy, and I discussed Garway Supermarket closing: NO!!! ("gee, I wonder when they're going to replenish their rice supply - they had everything you needed for Chinese recipes, like every kind of sauce!")

When we finally got to ECBC, we marveled at the size of the parking lot (with some trees and grass in it!) and figured we'd never have that massive of a concrete car space! We entered the church JUST as the whole service was ending at 9:45 - and recounted the story for various friends of ours (Vivian, Raymond, Vania, Nathan, Adela) when we saw them! Vania thought we were kidding when we told her that we'd just arrived two minutes beforehand - nope, and Eric told her that there'd been a MALFUNCTION sign near his windshield wipers that meant nothing! After jokingly asking when the service would start, Eric M. and I made our way to the other end of the sanctuary, where we saw Pat / Vanessa / J-Mak / Christon / Steph. They'd heard what happened, and Steph's first thought was: "Is my brother in ANOTHER ditch?!" (she always thinks that when he's late even for him - we were way beyond fashionably late due to circumstances beyond our control tonight!)

While Christon was telling Eric about the various worship techniques he wanted to use (two songs sung at the same time and ending on the same note?), Steph waved to Eric H. because he'd come over to our side of the room. Nathan came over shortly afterwards and mentioned that Eric's parents would refer to Jon / white Eric / Jeremy as Eric's "washroom friends" after this - maybe... "How are your friends who came over to use the washroom?" Haha, good cover IF they didn't hear Jon's line! Later, we saw Alan Pang, and talked to Pat and Vanessa about J-Mak's man-purse. Waited for Jon to finally finish talking to people - Steph was doing this imitation of him: "Ooh, I just HAVE to talk to people, and make sure I'm the last one to leave... YAY! ONE MORE PERSON EVEN IF I DON'T KNOW THEM!" Eric M. just told me to make sure I wore different pants tomorrow - yeah yeah, just shush. :P (Nathan's car accidentally left Jeremy at church, but went back to pick him up)

On the way home, certain people talked a lot and animatedly - Eric just told me to stop doing certain things, but I just laughed it off. It's not my fault that I have this effect, now is it? Talked about cars, a certain logo, fighting, Alaska photos (have emailed link to Dylan and Jeremy - kinda crazy now that Jon reminded me!), cruises, maternal confusion over which cruise Steph was going on, Harmony, farms, etc. I'm not leaving tomorrow till Steph calls me, for sure! Now it's time to sleep after this crazy night! Eric H. did apologize to us several times, but the night was more fun this way - he said that it was a good thing that he had friends around! Hey, what are friends for? Good thing my brother went, otherwise this night could have been even worse for me and Eric! ("Do we have cash for a cab or endless bus fare before the towing company charges me overnight storage fees?! What about the $50 or so it'll take to get it out of there? Very expensive lesson, and I don't want to add even more to the cost!")
