Hilarious translations from a restaurant menu in China
More such translations from Shanghai... too funny!
Church today was all right... I finally saw baby Benjamin, who looks just like Billy! He was sleeping, and looked so cute! My friend Lily is due next month herself, and marveled over the baby. I talked to baby Nathaniel, who will be one year old next month! He likes dangly things, as he was always reaching out for a red string on his mom's bag.. gotta love that, haha. I went and helped with the toddlers earlier than usual since it was raining outside, and Auntie Tracy said she'd get me some good Chinese crackers from T&T next time she was there: Vania likes them too! (these are good crackers, I'm telling you...)
After that, it was off to the luncheon, where we could seat ourselves. I ended up sitting with Joe, Steph, Michelle, Daniel, Anita, Jeff, Erin, Nathan, and Eric. We were not impressed with the food this time around, as it was a mixture of the cheapest lunch and dinner items available, and only a few courses with no dessert. The acoustics in that restaurant suck, as we could only hear an unintelligible mumble from the microphones! There was a slide show of various moments at our church through the 31 years of its existence: when Chung Yan and Karen were shown as MCs for last year's banquet, there was a lot of "CHUUUUUUUUUNG!" calling... he was VERY red, haha. (one year to the day!) Daniel bought bottled water for our table in between courses, and Joe told us how he could hear every word my dad said in his church administrator office (directly downstairs from his) since he's pretty loud. ("Daniel, this is just between you and me..." he'd say, and then we'd add on: "... and Joe, and all the people on this side of the church..." hahahaha!) Steph says it's embarrassing, and she's not used to it yet... for sure! Joe's aunt (Benedict's mom) went up to him and suggested that he give her a bouquet of flowers when we recognized all the work she'd done as a church clerk: she just retired at the end of last month. So he did... at least he didn't have to buy the flowers!
Pastor Edward mentioned a pledge goal of "one million dollars," and Michelle and Steph did the Dr. Evil pose right away, haha. Then Steph played around with Daniel's wedding rings and jokingly proposed to Erin! Eric just gave her a look, and her defense was that our church was pretty liberal... sorta, but not THAT liberal! I paid Emily and Joey back the few dollars I owed them from Bon's last week, too. The table also discussed curling on Saturday, SLB night (we haven't had one in a while!), plans, jokes, and school. Daniel and Steph also got outbid by Jonathan Chan on the Canucks-Wild tickets at the silent auction to raise funds for the new building: outbid by a Gr. 8 kid using his parents' (or his grandparents') money?! Aiya! It was okay overall, but I'm still glad to be home! At least I'm away from my mom trying to set me up with a certain person, and her "Big Ass" comments. (thanks a LOT for suggesting that I be sweet and go along with it, Carol.. now she thinks I *like* it! :P) I also made little Benjamin from Sunday School smile... that kid is cute and likes balloons! :D
To do this week: mail Cassandra's postcards / stickers / St. Patrick's Day card, mail Corey's curry chips and Bathroom Reader #18 with birthday card (I'm giving the box ample time to get there by the 19th), and buy a new flexi-style watch. (mine keeps losing time, but I've had it for over three years now, so that's pretty good!)
There is a period in English history, from 1603 to 1714, known as the Stuart times. Puritans during those times named their children after virtues. Some you've heard of, like "Prudence" or "Charity." Others include:
Silence
Helpless
Forsaken
Misericordia
Fight-the-good-fight-of-faith
Sorry-for-sin
Posthuma
Lament
Discipline
Kill-sin
Increase
Faint-not
