Today is World Book Day. :D

I had somewhat weird dreams last night: one involved my sleeping over at Eric M.'s house when I couldn't leave at a certain time. Of course, I had to get up at 4 AM or something in the dream because that was when the household got going for work and such with breakfast. I remember keeping in touch with friends via phone in that dream... that was weird since I *know* that household never gets going at 4 AM for anything! *laugh*

Then there was another one in which everyone I'd ever known were split up into five huge cruise ships in a competition to see who could reach Mexico the fastest. Once we did reach Mexico, everyone went on this MEGA cruise ship, and were reunited with lots of family members and people they'd known. Then everyone had to say something about everyone else... there was this lesbian couple with a six-year-old called Nicholas, and a baby girl called Brittany. (I know nobody like that in real life!) I also remember Billy, Tony, Eddie, Vanessa, her mom, Phil's family, and lots of other friends of mine on the ship. Very weird!


I now have my newspaper subscription re-activated! The lady on the phone thought my subscription was cancelled, but then when I told her that I had paid the bill in full, she apologized to me for not seeing that the payment HAD gone through. So now I'm good to go from Saturday, and didn't waste my money! :D

I think I'll download Cross Country Canada (alternative link), too. That was always good when I was a kid, and I don't think it'll be boring... :D (I'm going to play Oregon Trail Deluxe now...)

1. Introduction
-------------------

Cross Country Canada was a PC game released back in 1991 for elementary schools all across Canada. You could say it's a Canadian version of Oregon Trail, but instead of pioneers, you are a truck driver picking up commodities across Canada and dropping them off at one of the 80 cities in this game.

2. Command List
-------------------------

AND - Links commands together.
C (continue) - Moves the truck in the same direction it was going.
D (down) - Driver steps out of the truck.
DA - View dashboard.
DAY - Shows how many days you've been on the road.
EAT - Eat at a restaurant. Costs $10 a shot.
EX - Shows expenses.
FILL UP - Fills up your gas tank.
GET [commodity name here] - Gets the commodity if you are in a city that has it.
H (Health) - Lets you know if your trucker needs to eat or sleep.
I (inventory) - Shows the date, all commodities you picked up, your final destination, and the next commodity you need. (if applicable)
L (look)- Gives a description of the surroundings.
LM - Local Map. Shows the current Province / Territory.
N, S, E, W (and all combos) - moves the truck in that direction.
PICK UP HITCHHIKER - If you see a hitchhiker on the side of the road and want to pick him up, then stop the truck (press enter) and type this.
PM - Political Map. Shows the whole map of Canada.
PUT ON SEATBELT - What you should do when you get into any vehicle, imaginary or not. (lol)
QUIT - Quits the game.
RADIO FOR HELP - Use when you get into an accident or run out of gas. (CALL POLICE works for me, haha)
RESTORE - Loads a previous game.
SAVE - Saves a game.
SCRIPT - Prints a transcript of the game.
SLEEP - Sleep in your truck for 8 hours.
SLEEP IN HOTEL - Sleep in a hotel for 8 hours. Costs $30.
SPEED - If you want to be a speed demon and make the truck go faster. Causes accidents and the cops may come after you.
T - Turns the truck on / off.
T ON LIGHTS - Turns on headlights. Use T OFF LIGHTS to turn off.
T ON WIPERS - Turns on wipers. Use T OFF WIPERS to turn off.
U - Gets the trucker back in the truck.
UNSCRIPT - Stops printing your game.
WAIT - Makes an hour go by.

4. The FAQs
--------------

1. Do I have a certain time / money limit?

Nope. You can spend all you want and go wherever you please. You may get a bonus commodity that may give you $300 off your gas bill, or something similar.

2. HEY! THAT HITCHHIKER STOLE MY COMMODITY!

Yeah, when you pick up a hitchhiker, there are three outcomes:

1. He waves as you drop him off (common)
2. He waves and gives you a $100 tip (rare)
3. He steals your commodity at knifepoint. (semi-common)

Outcome #3 is all the more amusing if you have customized your commodity names to illegal substances.

3. You can customize commodities?

Yes, but you can only name 4 of them (the rest are still default), and you have to use the file called "AUTHOR.EXE" to do it. Then you can pick which cities to put them in. For example, I used commodity table 0 as a base, named the four custom commodities, and then added the custom commodities to cities that don't normally have commodities. (I had Crack in Moncton... lmao. It's funny to type "get crack" and see a box loading into the back of the truck. But don't take my word for it...)

4. Why do I get into so many accidents?

Well, is your guy hungry? Tired? Speeding? All three? Try and keep your guy's health up and the truck speed down, and you shouldn't have any problems with accidents.
