Carving pumpkins at Vivian's 2001 birthday party
Well, now I finally have time and brainpower enough to post the story of what happened at my friend Vivian's place in 2001. No, she doesn't have a space hopper, but she does have this big red bouncy ball. (no insinuations from the peanut gallery! :P) It's not quite a beach ball, but it is bigger than your average-sized beach ball. I don't know what to call it, but you can sit on it if you maintain your balance well enough. (not for me, in other words :P)
Anyways, Vivian had invited approximately 40 of our friends to her house for her birthday party: since her birthday is the day before Halloween, we decided to carve some pumpkins after eating dinner. When Vania sat on the red ball and almost promptly fell off, my brother laughed. Sarah decided to eat dinner while sitting on it, and my brother told her not to "pull a Vania." (you wouldn't want to fall off the ball while eating dinner, you know!) Later, my brother sat on it himself and purposely fell off. Vania laughed at him, so my brother had to tell her that he did it on purpose: "I always fall on purpose.. you must not know me very well, then!" I would have to agree, especially given that we've known Vania literally since she was a baby. (so we've known her for about 17 years now)
As for what we carved on the pumpkins?
* the words "Asian Sensation" (done by poking holes in the pumpkin to make the letters; Nathan's idea)
* the Canadian Tire symbol (at the time, Dianne worked at Canadian Tire)
* a camel (Nathan's idea.. he likes them)
* a chicken foot (At the time, a popular inside joke was that Eddie would one day open a restaurant devoted to soya sauce chicken foot-flavored Slurpees. The easy way would be by sticking a soya sauce chicken foot in the Slurpee. But the hard way involved actually making the Slurpee taste like soya sauce chicken foot!)
* a Powerpuff Girl (Vivian really likes them)
A note on the Powerpuff Girls thing: Dianne spent a good part of the evening taking off the clothes of a Powerpuff Girls doll that Vivian had lying around. Her excuse? "But it has clothes on underneath!" Very hilarious, and rather typically hyper Dianne. *laugh*
