Downloading stuff with the fast connection!
Corey and I had a discussion about downloading movies and TV shows, now that I can with my fast connection. I've never seen PULP FICTION or FIGHT CLUB, plus a whole bunch of others. Maybe I'll do that sometime...
[20:24:58] Corey: you've never seen that kind of thing? :P
[20:32:33] Flami: Who wants to help me pack?: no
[20:33:24] Corey: well, hop on Kazaa and download some :P
[20:33:39] Corey: or that weird torrent site (Azureus) I linked you to a while back
[20:33:50] Corey: you can download movies now, you know :P
[20:34:02] Flami: there is no way I'm downloading anything of that sort now, thanks :P
[20:34:24] Corey: not necessarily THAT.. but you have hard drive space and a fast connection :P get to it :P
[20:34:50] Corey: music, movies, whatever :P BT Junkie is a good one, and so is Isohunt
[20:35:22] Corey: lots of TV shows at those places too, in case you want to watch something on a premium channel you don't get on cable :P
[20:35:42] Flami: yeah, it's fast.. during that tech support call, a 9.9MB thing downloaded in like minutes
[20:37:38] Flami: yay! we won the hockey game 2-1 against Calgary!
[20:42:32] Corey: 10 megs is nothing on cable :P
[20:42:40] Corey: I download 10 gig files :P
[20:44:16] Flami: o_O
[20:45:01] Corey: I downloaded a couple seasons of Dr. Katz recently... that was about 20 gigs total... 5 DVDs
[20:46:37] Corey: a normal movie, like the kind I sent to you.. those are like 700 megs, if they're 1 disc. double that if they're two, for better quality or because the movie is long. you should be able to get those in a couple hours if you're lucky and they go really fast... a day or so at moderate speeds... and it doesn't really matter if it takes all day now, because you're going to be connected to the internet all the time anyway now, so you might as well have stuff downloading in the background :P
[20:47:18] Corey: torrents of the full discography of bands are pretty common... you should be able to get stuff like that pretty quickly unless they go really slow
[21:01:00] Corey: Torrent Reactor isn't bad if you want to look at stuff by category... the ones I linked you to were mostly search things
[21:01:50] Flami: like Braindead, y'mean?
[21:02:35] Flami: sounds interesting...
[21:02:37] Corey: divx / xvid stuff... yeah.... usually a .avi file
[21:03:48] Corey: TONS of movies like that out there. you can even get stuff that's in theaters right now if you really want, but if they say "CAM" or "TS" in the title... it's probably shitty quality. "TC" can be good. that's an actual film transfer
[21:05:51] Flami: but will I be able to play these things once I'm done downloading them?
[21:08:46] Corey: sure... VLC.. that should work fine. Media Player Classic + a codec pack should work.. I prefer Media Player Classic since the controls seem easier to use. ctrl+left / right skip ahead or back a few seconds. so if you miss some little detail, you can VERY easily rewatch that. VLC does that, but it skips like 5 seconds, which is too much.. you don't want to watch several lines of dialogue all over again.. just a little bit :P if you want to skip back farther in MPC, just hit it a few times :P
[21:09:35] Flami: yeah, I think I still have VLC on here somewhere..
Right now, we're discussing Nine Inch Nails / Lords of Acid singles with multiple songs on them. Darren also brought up Easter candy: giant chocolate eggs are SO AWESOME! (Easter's better than Halloween for the candy alone, dude!)
