Rain, Twitter, Taiwanese earthquakes, hurricanes, and legendary monsters in lakes

Eric H. wants a little rain in Hong Kong because it's really hot there right now - 30 degrees and counting?! Told him about the cooler weather here when he asked, then said I was on Facebook a LOT, but never on Twitter. Apparently, HE's joined Twitter; he's not on much, and just reads other people's posts. Makes sense to me! Also said that I was updating my public blog, which got a thumbs-up!

EARTHQUAKE IN TAIWAN!

Flami / Leslie: learning about martyrs said (Yesterday at 11:58 PM):
I just had some red wine :D
Corey said (1:48 AM): well, I just had some EARTHQUAKE
Flami said (9:39 PM):
ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
Corey says (9:42 PM): YES, I AM SERIOUS
Flami (9:43 PM): Google bears that out
Corey says (9:44 PM): does it? I haven't looked for that yet, I wanted to see where it was. it was way stronger than the other one I've felt here
Corey says (9:47 PM): well, an article says it measured 2.0 here......... it was very short, but it shook us pretty damn good... the first earthquake was stronger than this, but farther away, and you could just feel things shaking a little, and it felt kind of nice.. this was like someone grabbed you by the shoulder and shook you violently for a couple seconds
Flami (9:47 PM): Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days
Corey says (9:48 PM): so I guess I don't want to experience a really big earthquake any time soon, that one was scary enough
Corey says (9:53 PM): well, maybe it was a bigger one.. now I'm reading something that says there were FOUR earthquakes
Corey says (9:54 PM): anyway, it wasn't strong enough to knock anything off shelves or even move small objects on the desk or anything, but there was some definite shaking... something that really does move things around would probably be pretty scary if it can feel that strong without moving anything
Flami says (10:00 PM): FOUR EARTHQUAKES?!
Corey says (10:08 PM): Four moderate earthquakes hit Taiwan
Corey says (10:09 PM): I only felt the one big shake, and it only lasted like two seconds
Flami says (10:17 PM): that's nuts, man
Corey says (10:50 PM): it's a little scary being somewhere where at any moment the earth could move and suddenly destroy everything.... we don't have earthquakes in Colorado really. we just have Yellowstone nearby... that may or may not literally blow up the whole western hemisphere of the world, and probably kill the rest with ash
Flami says (10:52 PM): yeah, I can hardly imagine being somewhere like that, or hurricane country
Corey says (10:54 PM): well, they have typhoons here too...
Corey says (10:55 PM): uh... like the one that's here RIGHT NOW, apparently explaining all the rain............
Corey says (10:56 PM): I check the typhoon map website almost every day, but this one wasn't there yesterday, I don't think... one going right through the strait between here and China... looks like it's about to pass by
Corey says (10:57 PM): and another stronger one heading right this way, but the map says it's going to turn around and kill Korea instead
Flami says (11:01 PM): YIKES
Corey says (11:03 PM): well, it's a category 2 storm... I'm not sure what the big hurricanes, like Katrina are... the scale goes up to like 5... the one that's in the strait here isn't even a 1, it's just a Tropical Storm
Flami (11:09 PM): I've heard of those, but not in any great detail
Corey says (11:47 PM): well, you guys can probably get hit with stuff like that... you're near the ocean
Flami (11:50 PM): yeah, but we rarely get BIG STORMS

Trivia fact for Tuesday, Aug. 31: What's the name of the legendary monster that some people believe lurks beneath the surface of Lake Tahoe, on the California-Nevada border? Tahoe Tessie - named for its supposed resemblance to the Loch Ness Monster, which is popularly known as Nessie.
