Finally seeing Dennis again after two years / Questions 2801-2850 of 5000 / Social Dysfunction

Once again, I've been away for longer than I anticipated.. Jon and his "social butterfly" tendencies strike again, heh. He buzzed me at about 2:30 this afternoon to tell me that the lards (parents) were seeing The Chronicles of Narnia at 4... I decided to go, and caught some flack for showing up later than expected at the townhouse. Hey, I was at the intersection at 3:30... and then spent too long deciding what to buy at the 7-11, but that's not the point. I was THERE. :P

The movie was all right.. it was a bit slow in the first bit, but it picked up speed later on. All the battle sequences reminded me of LOTR, heh. Afterwards, my parents said I could go home with them and have dinner before they dropped me off at my place... or I could go with Jon to Memphis Blues BBQ House and meet Phil and Dennis, if he let me. Memphis Blues was an overwhelming factor, as was seeing Dennis: he went off to Fredericton a couple years ago to do his Masters Degree, and I haven't seen him in at least a couple of years. After spending some time at a coffee shop and the liquor store (chocolate stout for Jeremy?!), we met the guys for eats at the Commercial Drive location instead of the Granville / Broadway one.

Dinner was cool: we had the Memphis Feast (half the size of the Elvis Platter) and talked about various topics. Somalia, Kenya, guns, AK-47s, technicals, protection, government, UK, Prague, Vienna (Dennis was there and found it boring-ish), poverty / patronage of musicians, musicology, Mozart, Hadyn, Toronto, books, record labels, iPods, church, Grace, Megan, parents, liquor, beer, etc. It was pretty cool, heh. After dinner, Jon said that he wanted to hang out with his Toronto friends, but that we'd have to wait an hour or so... fine with me, as if I had a choice. Dennis, Jon, and I went to Turks coffee shop: Den paid for our caffeine! (the combination of caffeine and alcohol wasn't good for my brother, heh) We discussed books, philosophy, how Nathan was doing six months after the death of his mom (crisis / anger period in September and October), having friends in the places you travel so you can stay at their houses for free (helps with the cost), Den's sister Jasmine's wedding, all-out banquets, Italy, staying single, plans, seeing / dating people, Africa, etc.

A while later, Jon and I went to someone's apartment after dropping Dennis off at the Skytrain station. We were GOING to go out somewhere, but they were all tired after a Whistler ski trip.. so we all just watched Sportsnet and hung out for two hours more. (Amy fixed my caught jacket zipper!) One of the reporters was actually a guy I knew back in junior high.. there can't be THAT many guys in Vancouver running around with the name Ian Mendes, right? ;) That took me right back to the days in Palmer with him, Troy Sorel, and Dave Powell... good times. They were all into hockey then, too.. Dave used to tease me about not liking the Calgary Flames like he did, haha. :D

Matt Mark, Amy, Jonathan, and Hang Kit all want to go for a Daimasu sushi lunch tomorrow before their flight to Toronto at 3:45... of course Jon's up for it, even if he's seeing Water at the Fifth Avenue cinema at 9 with Jeremy and Nathan. I might be up for it as well, but probably not. We'll see what happens, haha. I know that Jon's going on an overnight trip with the parents on Friday-Saturday, and that he has Yaletown Brewery plans on Sunday... we'll see if I go to the brewery, heh. Now Corey's teasing me about beer, and also about drinking water in shots... aiya. :P


Hey, Andrea sent me an email about her new email / cell phone number. I'll get right on that... as well as Helen, Lesley, Lily, Sophia, and Winnie's Evite to Stella's baby shower at Helen's on Jan. 22 from 3-5. (I'll RSVP now so I don't forget) At least it's on a Sunday, so Awana doesn't need to conflict with that... phew!
